I’m having the same noise and it was driving me nuts! The best thing about the “budget” model 3 is there’s a larger community to troubleshoot and diagnose and share their knowledge and findings. Thank you so much for this video I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for this. Tesla literally couldn’t figure it out after 2-3 service appointments so they just insulated one pillar to reduce the noise. Still here it from time to time. They only insulated the driver side so now I’ve been hearing it on the passenger side and couldn’t recreate it at service for them to fix. Sounds like a creaking rocking chair.
You have to push up and bend the upper tabs with your thumbs to align them with the slots they go into. Learned that from the mobile Tesla tech who fixed mine when I couldn't get it back on completely. I had also crushed one of the lower plastic pins.
@@davidbennett7374 I will have to attempt that next time I go out to the car. Hard to conceptualize using the thumbs when those tabs are facing the inside of the pillar lol
Thank you for this tutorial. In my case, I am not able to install back the upper plastic cover. I am not able to push the upper part in and there is a gap on top . Like on your video at 9:23. There are two pins on top that I am not able to push in. Should I push them in first ? Mine is Model 3.
I bumped mine just getting in the car and it moved the cover. I don’t have this seatbelt issue 😅 However, I have a card time snapping the plastics back in.
I also can't get the panel back in place at the top. It feels like the interconnect between the sliders on the panel and car aren't aligned properly and therefore the top of the panel won't seat all the way in. Very frustrating. I'm having a Tesla service person coming by tomorrow to fix it. Hopefully they'll do it under warrantee since I took the panel off because of a defect.
This is super helpful! It would be great to see more DIY rattle fixes and how to remove trim pieces. I have a few rattles and Tesla says they’ll start charging $ after 12,000 miles or 1 year. I’m sure a lot of owners would appreciate it 👍
@@EveryAmp Your vids are the best. Your guide to removing the door panels gave me the confidence to remove mine. I wound up taking off all 4 panels and felt taping down anything that could potentially rattle. I used tone generator to try and track down rattles. I also removed my back seat and felt taped anything below the seat that could rattle: connectors, wires, etc. My car now feels and sounds much more "solid" than before. Everything I've done has helped to some degree. I'm having the shelf behind the back seats replaced in a few weeks. Whatever is below the fabric is not glued down well. It's hoping it's the source of some sounds on hard hits like expansion joints. As a suggestion would like to see how to remove the headliners above the sun visor over the driver window. I have a slight buzz that comes and goes behind those areas.
You're awesome man. Thanks for doing these. I love my Model 3 more than any other car but the rattles are just insane. I decided to start tackling them otherwise my blood pressure will sky rocket! haha. PS, do you have a master list of rattles that you've fixed and the solution to them?
Hi. I'm having problems with a rattling noise coming from the rear left seat belt tensioner. Do you know how to remove the "plastic part" that covers the seat belt tensioner?
You the man! Thanks. Definitely going to subscribe. It is so easy just to fix your own problem and move on, but you took time to hook the rest of us up.Thanks again.
There is a rattle in the rear seats and I have gone to the SC 3 times. But they still havent been able to fix it yet... Could you possibly do a video of rear seat disassemble?
I've had a rear seat rattle off and on too, but haven't been able to nail it down yet. I think it's coming from the latch. My current solution has helped a lot, but not 100%. Try taking a small towel and folding it several times until it is around an inch thick. Fold down the seat a bit and put the towel between the seat and back deck near the latch. Let me know if that helps yours.
I am struggling with the same rattle issue from both of b pillars. I already visited service center twice, but it is getting worse and worse. Thank you so much 😊
Your video was helpful, but I was unable to get it back into place as easily as you did. The top portion does snap back in right into place. I can’t figure out how it get it back in right. 😢
You have to push up and bend the upper tabs with your thumbs to align them with the slots they go into. Learned that from the mobile Tesla tech who fixed mine when I couldn't get it back on completely. Looks like it takes some force. You can try to bend the tabs up before putting the panel in place. Good luck!
Another tutorial I tried, door rattles and tweeter problems solved, seatbelt remains a problem, unfortunately nothing more I can do about it, I guess I’ll just go crazy from the instant rattling right above my ear :D
Great video. Thank you. One suggestion: can you use better lighting/zoom please? it's a bit hard to see where you out the tape. (Black tape on black metal part, held in front of a black car seat in a dimly lit garage :). Thanks!
I had mobile service replace the adjuster under warranty once, but the new part just had the same issue. Haven't noticed the need on the passenger side, but I will if it needs it. The only car I've ever had that was 100% rattle-free was a Lexus and I attribute a lot of that to the cushy suspension. It's really difficult to have a rattle-free car with a sporty suspension.
I removed mine by squeezing in while parked in a tight spot with shoulder accidently, lol. I was like really it's that easy to remove? Now it comes off all the time which is annoying.
Lol who would give this a thumbs down? Drive by trolls? Great video- thanks. Something on my passenger side is clunking, I may have to investigate this.
You may need to adjust your expectations on that. Tesla is the best at a lot of things, but they're not the best at everything. I've seen cars that cost way more with more rattles.
Thanks. Tesla only addresses noise vibration harshness to 17,000 so this was going to be a $97 diagnosis. I declined. I am a little afraid to rip into it myself, but I to am buying the felt tape and rewatching the video.
UPDATE: This fix didn't work in my Model Y, so here's an updated video on how I resolved it: th-cam.com/video/KctTaFCZhWE/w-d-xo.html

It's not a budget car at £48,000 new. Tesla customer service is useless
I'm all over this as soon as I find out the torque specs as Albert mentioned

I absolutely can not get the clips to reinstall the same way. The top two refuse to go in and seem to have a terrible angle

Might be worth sending your vid to Tesla. They're always altering and enhancing parts and production. Much of which is based on end user feedback.
Tesla customer service is useless
Could you please do a video for the rear seat belt struts?

@@EveryAmp Still rattles. I think it's something inside the rear seat with the arm rest on it.
My guess is that the service center tightens the torx until it is tight. I'd bet anything that not a single tech would bother to check torque.
Based on my interactions with the service center in my area, I bet you're right...
Same case with my car also. I want to refer them to this video on service tomorrow :)
I am struggling with the same rattle issue from both of b pillars. I already visited service center twice, but it is getting worse and worse. Thank you so much 😊
What is that case or panel you put back over the seatbelt called

same issue with the top, any tips?
@@tudortudorache8545 I had to have service come out and fix it. Even they struggled a bit to get it back.
Did you figure this out? I can't get top push pin to line up with white receptacles

Thanks for the video. Mine does the same. But kinda pathetic that this is a common issue on a $50+k vehicle.
You'd be surprised. I've been in some very expensive rattly vehicles. The worst was a Lexus SC430.
Someone knows the torque specs on those bolts?
2 things often if know material of both you can search up on bolt size the max torque but also tesla probably have a lower torque that they recommend
Living Tesla, can you confirm that this fixed the rattling noise? I'm about to go buy some felt tape and try this out for myself.
Confirmed

Super nice tuto. Did you do passenger side too?
But wait, Model 3 warranty is DIY now ? 😞

Hilarious! Nerfing the world - one rattle at a time. Lol
9:24 ”Remove the rubber out of the way, slide it up in there”....
What size of felt tape should one select? 3/4 in?
That's a good size for most things. I often end up just cutting it into whatever shapes I need.
i took mine part and the build quality of teslas is sooo budget.
I removed mine by squeezing in while parked in a tight spot with shoulder accidently, lol. I was like really it's that easy to remove? Now it comes off all the time which is annoying.
Sounds like the clips either aren't installed correctly or may be broken.
Nice work thank you for the info having the same issue.
Great advice and super clear video. Thanks!

Haters gonna hate. Ainters gonna ain't. ;)
No example of what this sounded like?
Are The nessary tools T45 and T50 ?
That's correct.
reminds me of Bob Ross... very nice to listen to!
Why the hell are we repairing a manufactur failure. Never will i but another Tesla ever again. Customer service is a joke.
I really hope the first thing I do when I get delivery of my tesla is not rattle proof it lol
You may need to adjust your expectations on that. Tesla is the best at a lot of things, but they're not the best at everything. I've seen cars that cost way more with more rattles.
Seems like just adding a small washer or two to the belt hook would have solved the problem.
Ive played with that part and I don't think the seatbelt hook/hanger is the issue.

Awesome!
If a $40,000 car needs a rattle fix right out of factory, then maybe it’s not worth buying...
More money doesn't necessarily buy you fewer rattles. Ask any exotic car owner how that went for them.
