We did a cross country road trip 15 years ago for our honeymoon and we walked around with a flip phone all over multiple cities and loved San Francisco, Seattle, and San Antonio. Beautiful, even looked into moving there from Virginia. Now we avoid large cities to the point where we give up good work contracts to avoid them.
I know a lot of people who are opting for homeschool now. Some are doing online school, part time schools, hybrid. Anything but government schools.
Unfortunately a lot of online choices are funded by the government.

It is a good thing my wife is good at talking me down because it was likely that I'd of ended up in jail had she not.
As i understand it, builders and contractors are mainly not building smaller houses because they cannot get enough of a return on their investment to make doing so worthwhile.
Well, then bluntly you understand it wrong. We have looked at a lot of land, in every instance what a builder thinks meant NOTHING as it would be a one off self build. We ran into these restrictions in almost every county including very rural counties. Call your County planning office and ask them if this restriction exists where you live. Then let us know what they say.
Now your state regs likely say something like 150-200 sf, but again talk to your county or city planning office. Were you around when I said, they were taking all cash funds out of 401ks and replacing them with bond funds and NO ONE WAS TALKING ABOUT IT. It is a lot like that.
Jamaica is also a pretty good passport! They don't have much beef with anyone.
