Thanks Myles for this video. I am Lutheran MS, married to a SDA, he still has the SDA worldview and I have many frustrations also of how he thinks about these things. Just last night he was speaking about the 2300 evenings and mornings with me in Daniel (1844 )and I said in the bible that Christ sits at the right had of God the Father interceding for us, it does not talk of rooms of holy and most holy places. It is a long story of the differences mainly going to church without him there. I find your videos and your web site very informative, keep up the good work!

Put these two verses together and what do you get? Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God the Father in the true tabernacle. That place is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ; the true anti-type temple (which was broken and rebuilt John2:19-22) and where the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily (Col2:9). Nice try bud. Hint...there's no throne in the "earthly temple"; that's a clue. The whole mantra of "...sitting at the right hand of God" is a theme cited throughout the New Testament.

All of these controversies would be cleared up immediately if only seventh day adventists would realise that Ellen White was not a prophet of God. If she had been, ALL of her predictions would have come true, Deut 18:22, but I am not aware of one single noteworthy prediction of hers that did come true. Her abysmal record utterly disqualifies her from being any kind of messenger from God and everything that she ever said or wrote can safely be ignored!

She was a part of the Millerite group who incorrectly predicted Christ's coming to 1843, then 1844. There is nothing wrong in rejoicing for any events connected to Jesus. But Jesus never said to create a holy day out of it. So as long as you realise that rejecting the Sabbath and glorifying Sunday is a man made tradition, and not what God asked for, then there is no problem. Also, Jesus worshipped everyday, so of course He worshipped on the Sabbath. The bible tells us that going to the Synagogue was His regular practice. He also said it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath, so He didn't break the Sabbath. The Jews did not understand the Sababth.

Myles I’m not defending Adventism but is it fair to say they think works save them? The Apostolic Churches teach faith without works is dead, but it is because of our faith and the Grace we receive that we do the works. We know works are like filthy rags in the site of God and would never say we’re saved because of them.

I know very few people that think a dead faith saves someone. I’m defining works salvation in contrast to the doctrine of solus Christus. Unlike the alleged “apostolic churches,” the SDA church CLAIMS they affirm this and they do not. They do not believe that salvation rests on Christs Person and work alone. They claim that the Adventist Jesus made something possible but in order to be a savior, you must come alongside him and add to what he did. Those in the traditions of the Reformation consider this works salvation. The SDA model is not merely synergism. It is synergism on steroids. Through a new found power of coming to Jesus, a person is now allegedly empowered to begin keeping the law. They are forgiven from all of their past sins. In order to be “fitted for heaven,” one must get to a sinlessly perfect state of perfect law keeping. Along the way, when you sin (because perfection isn’t instantaneous), you must confess each sin to Jesus who is conducting the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary where he will then cleanse your record of that sin, keeping you on the pathway to eternal life. Only those that attain total perfection before probation closes will vindicate Gods character, silencing Satan, and be found worthy of inheriting eternal life. If that isn’t “works salvation” then the phrase really has no meaning. No group that teaches works salvation says “we teach works salvation.” They all claim they don’t. At the end of the day, I think scripture is clear as do millions of others, that if you don’t believe that Jesus Christ ALONE saves-that you are at peace with a holy God as a sinner based SOLELY on what Jesus has done for sinners-you are adding to Christs work and are teaching that your own works ultimately save you.
@ ok but many Protestants call the Catholic and Orthodox views of salvation “works” based when that’s a false smear. We recognize we are saved by Grace and there is nothing we can do to earn our way into Heaven. Because of that saving Grace, we are called to live our faith. I think Adventists will say they are saved and because of that they wish to obey God’s Law with things like the sabbath. They’re wrong on the sabbath but I don’t know if they think of it as works, rather obedience. Again, not defending them as they have plenty of real issues.

The actual SDA system of theology. I understand they dont not see it as works but as obedience. I was an Adventist for two decades. But does any person who believes in worked salvation see that as such? When Christ turns people away in Matthew 7 they are people who claimed to do all sorts of stuff for Jesus. They didn’t see it as works for their salvation apparently. Yet Jesus still turns them away. The Adventist model teaches obedience KEEPS you in right standing with God. I’ve talked about this before a lot. Nothing wrong with obedience but there is a major problem in thinking obedience KEEPS you in right standing with God when that isn’t what obedience does. That’s again turning your own doings into what will ultimately save you and I see no way around that. I’m not an antinomian and I’m a big advocate for the Puritans who were known for being very vocal about holiness. So I’m not dogging on obedience and holy living. I am, however, entirely against the belief that obedience keeps you right with God. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the active and passive obedience of Christ which is given to the believer. It’s that obedience that saves you and keeps you right with God, not our own. By the book SDA soteriology is basically medieval Roman soteriology but instead of the sacraments, they would say obedience to the 10 commandments is how one receives the necessary graces to be righteous, not the sacraments.
@MrAwak3 Ellen White, The Great Controversy (authoritative doctrine) states multiple times that those who worship on Sundays are accepting the mark of the beast. Their belief in works is rather clear. The very fact they believe in the investigative judgment infers their belief that Jesus failed to save them at the cross! I haven't studied it in a while so I could be wrong.
Jesus in righteous anger cleansed the temple here on earth. I think that the cleansing of the sanctuary is actually the cleansing of our own temple - our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which dwells within us. I think the temple on earth was first, symbolic of the glorious, resurrected body of our Lord Jesus in heaven and second, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our own mortal bodies. 2 Thessalonians 2:13b because God chose you as the firstfruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth - this could possibly be what it means by the "cleansing of the sanctuary." I think God is more in love with people and his connection and interaction with them rather than a concern for a building in heaven. By the same token I believe that the ark of the covenant was symbolic of the Virgin Mary who is the true ark of the covenant in heaven with the Holy Spirit. Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of the great God and of our Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good.
@@Donatello-b4x You're right Jesus cleansed the outer court of the temple. If the Sanctuary on earth was most holy, don't you think that the one in heaven - if there is an actual building in heaven - would be extremely most holy. No house can contain God, and Jesus went into heaven itself where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father as Myles has pointed out before. In my understanding the Sanctuary as a place has no need for cleansing but we know that the blood of Christ cleanses sinners from all unrighteousness from now on to eternity. The whole New Testament specially in the book of Hebrews where you would expect it mentioned, makes absolutely no reference to the cleansing of the sanctuary which it would if it was crucially a matter of eternal life or eternal punishment. Please don't paint God as a tyrant, a torturer who is thirsty for blood. He is a God of mercy and grace.

The vast majority of people have never even heard of them, and those who have heard of them and are not current or former members mostly see them as just one of many pseudo-Christian, works-based "colts" that sprang up in the northeastern US in the 19th Century, alongside Mormons, JWs and self-proclaimed "Christian Scientists". Since they came along a generation later than Mormons did, they didn't even get persecuted like Mormons and remain one of the least persecuted religious groups in human history, which makes the baked-in persecution complex Sadventism has all the more laughable!

Thanks Myles for this video. I am Lutheran MS, married to a SDA, he still has the SDA worldview and I have many frustrations also of how he thinks about these things. Just last night he was speaking about the 2300 evenings and mornings with me in Daniel (1844 )and I said in the bible that Christ sits at the right had of God the Father interceding for us, it does not talk of rooms of holy and most holy places. It is a long story of the differences mainly going to church without him there. I find your videos and your web site very informative, keep up the good work!

Put these two verses together and what do you get? Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God the Father in the true tabernacle. That place is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ; the true anti-type temple (which was broken and rebuilt John2:19-22) and where the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily (Col2:9). Nice try bud. Hint...there's no throne in the "earthly temple"; that's a clue. The whole mantra of "...sitting at the right hand of God" is a theme cited throughout the New Testament.

There is nothing wrong in rejoicing for any events connected to Jesus. But Jesus never said to create a holy day out of it. So as long as you realise that rejecting the Sabbath and glorifying Sunday is a man made tradition, and not what God asked for, then there is no problem.

Myles I’m not defending Adventism but is it fair to say they think works save them? The Apostolic Churches teach faith without works is dead, but it is because of our faith and the Grace we receive that we do the works. We know works are like filthy rags in the site of God and would never say we’re saved because of them.
@@MrAwak3 depends what you mean by “them” and how you define works salvation. That’s always the issue. The debate of dead faith versus living faith is honestly a waste of time. I know very few people that think a dead faith saves someone.
I’m defining works salvation in contrast to the doctrine of solus Christus. Unlike the alleged “apostolic churches,” the SDA church CLAIMS they affirm this and they do not. They do not believe that salvation rests on Christs Person and work alone. They claim that the Adventist Jesus made something possible but in order to be a savior, you must come alongside him and add to what he did. Those in the traditions of the Reformation consider this works salvation.
The SDA model is not merely synergism. It is synergism on steroids. Through a new found power of coming to Jesus, a person is now allegedly empowered to begin keeping the law. They are forgiven from all of their past sins. In order to be “fitted for heaven,” one must get to a sinlessly perfect state of perfect law keeping. Along the way, when you sin (because perfection isn’t instantaneous), you must confess each sin to Jesus who is conducting the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary where he will then cleanse your record of that sin, keeping you on the pathway to eternal life. Only those that attain total perfection before probation closes will vindicate Gods character, silencing Satan, and be found worthy of inheriting eternal life.
If that isn’t “works salvation” then the phrase really has no meaning. No group that teaches works salvation says “we teach works salvation.” They all claim they don’t. At the end of the day, I think scripture is clear as do millions of others, that if you don’t believe that Jesus Christ ALONE saves-that you are at peace with a holy God as a sinner based SOLELY on what Jesus has done for sinners-you are adding to Christs work and are teaching that your own works ultimately save you.
@ ok but many Protestants call the Catholic and Orthodox views of salvation “works” based when that’s a false smear. We recognize we are saved by Grace and there is nothing we can do to earn our way into Heaven. Because of that saving Grace, we are called to live our faith. I think Adventists will say they are saved and because of that they wish to obey God’s Law with things like the sabbath. They’re wrong on the sabbath but I don’t know if they think of it as works, rather obedience. Again, not defending them as they have plenty of real issues.

I understand they dont not see it as works but as obedience. I was an Adventist for two decades. But does any person who believes in worked salvation see that as such? When Christ turns people away in Matthew 7 they are people who claimed to do all sorts of stuff for Jesus. They didn’t see it as works for their salvation apparently. Yet Jesus still turns them away.
The Adventist model teaches obedience KEEPS you in right standing with God. I’ve talked about this before a lot. Nothing wrong with obedience but there is a major problem in thinking obedience KEEPS you in right standing with God when that isn’t what obedience does. That’s again turning your own doings into what will ultimately save you and I see no way around that. I’m not an antinomian and I’m a big advocate for the Puritans who were known for being very vocal about holiness. So I’m not dogging on obedience and holy living. I am, however, entirely against the belief that obedience keeps you right with God. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the active and passive obedience of Christ which is given to the believer. It’s that obedience that saves you and keeps you right with God, not our own.
By the book SDA soteriology is basically medieval Roman soteriology but instead of the sacraments, they would say obedience to the 10 commandments is how one receives the necessary graces to be righteous, not the sacraments.
@MrAwak3 Ellen White, The Great Controversy (authoritative doctrine) states multiple times that those who worship on Sundays are accepting the mark of the beast. Their belief in works is rather clear. The very fact they believe in the investigative judgment infers their belief that Jesus failed to save them at the cross! Jesus in righteous anger cleansed the temple here on earth. I think that the cleansing of the sanctuary is actually the cleansing of our own temple - our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which dwells within us. I think the temple on earth was first, symbolic of the glorious, resurrected body of our Lord Jesus in heaven and second, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our own mortal bodies. 2 Thessalonians 2:13b because God chose you as the firstfruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth - this could possibly be what it means by the "cleansing of the sanctuary." I think God is more in love with people and his connection and interaction with them rather than a concern for a building in heaven. By the same token I believe that the ark of the covenant was symbolic of the Virgin Mary who is the true ark of the covenant in heaven with the Holy Spirit.

He didn't cleanse the Sanctuary here on Earth. He drove out the money changer in the outer court of the temple.

If the Sanctuary on earth was most holy, don't you think that the one in heaven - if there is an actual building in heaven - would be extremely most holy. No house can contain God, and Jesus went into heaven itself where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father as Myles has pointed out before. In my understanding the Sanctuary as a place has no need for cleansing but we know that the blood of Christ cleanses sinners from all unrighteousness from now on to eternity. The whole New Testament specially in the book of Hebrews where you would expect it mentioned, makes absolutely no reference to the cleansing of the sanctuary which it would if it was crucially a matter of eternal life or eternal punishment. Please don't paint God as a tyrant, a torturer who is thirsty for blood. He is a God of mercy and grace.

The vast majority of people have never even heard of them, and those who have heard of them and are not current or former members mostly see them as just one of many pseudo-Christian, works-based "colts" that sprang up in the northeastern US in the 19th Century, alongside Mormons, JWs and self-proclaimed "Christian Scientists". Since they came along a generation later than Mormons did, they didn't even get persecuted like Mormons and remain one of the least persecuted religious groups in human history, which makes the baked-in persecution complex Sadventism has all the more laughable!
