Thanks for the vids paul.
Happy Sunday Paul! Gorgeous flowers; Thank you Mrs. H! I enjoy the Gillette Aristocrat razors. Any of them from 1934 to 1953 would be a good shave and something special. Personally, I prefer the made in British made Aristocrat razors, the TTO operation is silky smooth and shave like a dream (with the proper blade of course). I have been wanting to get my hands on the 1934-1936 versions. Price point is so high on the internet sites, but one can hope to find one at some yard sale or the like for a reasonable exchange of legal tender. I am keen of trying the Derby Premium or USTA blades...anything but those pre-2017 Derby Extras..OMG...wretched blades those, IMHO. Captain Choice makes some great products. I had the pleasure to talk to Scott once; an very nice man. The strange thing is I don't crave Captain Choice shaving soaps. I love the scent of the Bay Rum, North, and 45th Parallel, but the soaps...disinterested. The aftershave though...I have! I had the chance of obtaining a 1905 Gillette Single Ring razor complete with case and blade banks...and not for much money really. I finally let it go because of the micro cracks in the handle. I did wonder about the shave quality too? SOTD: King C Gillette razor loaded with a Perma-Sharp Super blade (5th use)(this blade seems to be getting better). Cella shave soap (from the kilo brick) lathered with a Graydog Spalted maple 26 mm synthetic brush. I used the Marco Method to lather it and it did work out wonderfully; a slick meringue like lather! Traditional 3 pass plus pick-up shave. Finished with Thayer's AF SF skin toner. I had a wonderfully smooth shave and smelled of marzipan. Nice shave Paul. You made my day! Stay safe and healthy please. Take care.
Excellent shave. Not many soaps make the cut (pun intended) into my rotation but CC is always one of them. Love the Aristocrat, and any vintage Gillette for that matter, which still provides the all-around best shave imo. MOTD - smoked ham with Guinness gravy, fried cauliflower and Caesar salad, twelve year scotch(s) and cigar for encore. SOTD - GSC Fatguy, Gillette Super Blue blade (new), Williams Mug Soap, Aqua Velva AS, Aqua Velva 5-in-1 AS balm.
Nicely done Paul💈💈 Captain's Choice, good stuff. I've got several vintage Aristocrats and find them to be slightly aggressive, not overly so but not daily drivers for me. Of course the blade choice makes a difference. Outstanding flowers, once again Mrs H dazzles us with color, thanks. SOTD: PAA Cube, MWF soap, PAA synth brush, RazoRock Wunderbar slant razor w/KAI blade, alum, witch hazel, Alt Innsbruck Emulsion, Alt Innsbruck Splash and AV 5 in 1 balm finale'....glorious. Your meal sounds wonderful. Great video as always with plenty of grins. Stay safe and...Enjoy!
I believe Shield is still around. I remember that it was something of a rival to the Original Irish Spring Bath Bar and later(as in the late 1990s early 2000s)was a competitor to Lever 2000. I recall variations on the Original Bath Bar in the 2010-2015 but I have noticed it since. Then, again I haven't looked. I found a forgotten cache of about 10 bars some time ago and have run out yet; thus have not been looking. ;-)
Great shave Paul! Today I think I’ll be using my beloved Rex Ambassador with a either a Feather or a Voskhod, Palmolive cream whipped up with my Mojo Handcrafts badger brush. I’ll finish it off with Proraso green. God Bess!
Hi Paul. Real nice shave. All good products obviously. A character here in the city, constantly in trouble with the law was taken down to the public square for fifty lashings. The executioner first dipped the whip in gravy and the scoundrel received fifty lashings of gravy. I guess crime doesn`t pay. Oh well, cheers.😀
Hi Paul- Great shave and soap review; thank you! Beautiful lather with the Land Ho’ soap whipped up with your brush; the Aristocrat did a great job, as well. Lovely flowers from Mrs H; many thanks, as always! Take away for dinner today, but too early in the day to decide what that will be! I hope you have a great week ahead. Take good care and be safe and be well. See you on Wednesday for the mid-week shave. All the best, Paul!
My SOTD was: Executive Shaving Stainless Steel Outlaw Razor. Gillette Nacet blade (1st use). RazoRock Big Bruce brush. Stirling Executive Man soap. Stirling Executive Man post shave balm. And to finish off a pat dry with the Lancaster Shave Towel. Exceptional shave.
Nice shave Paul! I really appreciate what you said about during a shave it’s time just for us, when we can collect our thoughts. Sometimes that may be the only time during a day we can really do that. Thanks for what you do and sharing your shave with us!! Kind regards, Mark
Nice shave, as always, Paul!! SOTD 1.Yintal new adjustable bronze razor 2.Tabac original shaving soap 3.Supermax platinum plus blade 4.Str8 faith after shave splash 5.Nivea cream for men Excellent combination, smooth and comfortable shave. Greetings from Greece!!
I always enjoy your take on the products you receive. Every time I see you and others use vintage safety razors, the one thing I've learned is that not much has changed in safety razor design over the past 100+ years. The original design definitely got it right from the beginning. All that has changed are variations in how gap size and blade exposure are incorporated. The adjustable razor should have put safety razor designers out of business. But we wet shavers are suckers for new looks and gimmicks. My SOTD was a simple one. Noxzema as a pre-shave. Van Der Hagen soap in a mug with some added menthol from my PAA Chill Mill. My FatGuy adjustable (the only "vintage" safety razor I own) with an Astra SP (3rd use). Followed up with the alum block, Dickinson's witch hazel, Proraso Green splash, and Duke Cannon Ice Cold balm. My MOTD can't compete with yours since my wife hasn't told me what we're having. Thanks for the Sunday jibber-jabber.
Shave of the day. Will be Dear barber shaving soap. Edwin Jaggar Ivory razor and some old spice aftershave. Nivea mens cream. Sunday dinner is Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes. Have great Sunday you and Mrs H
Nice video. Thanks for not doing the same "review" as everyone else... Very nice razor; that blade I have tried once and couldn't finish shave...wicked rough....maybe mine were bad...
Maybe you could apply some of last weeks soap to white paper and see if it dries pink to see if it is colouring. Yes you can still buy Shield soap in most supermarkets. Today’s soap had lashentos of lather!
Excellent shave again Paul, No SOTN for me this evening...reason being I had a first time shave yesterday with a straight edge razor. Nothing wrong with it just my inexperience. I look like I have either been dragged through a prickly bush or attacked by your kitten! Even managed to cut my upper lip, my shave towel looks horrendous! Anyway MOTD is going to be roast spatchcock chicken placed on the upper rack above garlic and mixed herb seasoned roast potatoes, the oil from the chicken drips over the potatoes to flavour them more. Accompanied by french beans with a sesame dressing. Thankfully my wounds still allow me to eat!😃
@@trancus11 Delicious! Wasn't only licking my wounds.😆 Just turned the chicken halfway thru cooking time, potatoes were gorgeous too. Btw just had second go with the straight edge and not so many nicks this time. Checked out Kai triska recommended by virtual groomroom, Kai's tips are clear to follow. Hope you're enjoying your shaves too.
Great shave. The Derby Premium blades are mild, but work for me alright. I would honestly put it in a more aggressive razor or a slant to reduce the bite. My SOTD is gonna be of the Maggards Slant razor with a Voskhod blade and the Wholly Kaw Sandhurst. I feel nervous about using a slant razor for the first time in my life, but I hope it goes all well
Great shave Paul.. Lovely flower display as always Lowri, thank you. Got a couple of razors coming as well mate. Oh! and a big order from PAA . Can't wait to see what you have treated yourself to. And yes we do deserve it with working in all weathers and all the way through the pandemic.. Mixed grill for dinner today. See you soon buddy, stay safe;-)
Beautiful display by Mrs H as always!!!! Good shave as well Paul!!! My SOTD will be the Gillette Aristocrat with a Gillette Platinum blade, Simpson Trafalgar T3 Synthetic Brush, PAA The Cube 2.0 preshave, Grooming Department Boomer Soap, Brut Aftershave, and L'oreal Men Expert Birch Sap Balm to seal the deal. Meal of the day is just some Venison Stew over some Jasmine Rice and some crusty bread for dipping. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!
