    Bought one of these after seeing it on the channel, been using it for about two week. I wear several layers of clothing in the cold, and this goes in a pocket of an inner layer. Works pretty much as you say, but nobody has told me I stink of fluid LOL. I light mine with a torch type flame, which I find works the best.
    All I can add is that the filler container holds 11.6 grams of fuel, at the 12 hour mark, and the device without the lid and catalytic part weighs 48.7 grams. So depending on whether all of the fuel was previously used up or not, filling is never a problem provided it's filled while using a scale.

    • @Zippofanatic77outdoors
      @Zippofanatic77outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Haha that’s good. Oh weighing your fluid getting technical lol see lighting it with a torch worried me might burn that stuff is what I thought. Because before I put a screen in my bong I take the torch to burn anything off it. Just reminded me of that haha

    • @blades8284
      @blades8284 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Zippofanatic77outdoors When using the torch I heat up the metal surrounding the catalytic material, which gets the fuel evaporating quicker, then briefly shoot flame in the two slots on either end of the burner which gets the red-cherry started.

    Hello Brother - I would like to say 2 things: 1) I agree that the Zippo hand warmer, as it comes out of the box, is a bit finicky (and underperforms). 2) If you search for catalyst replacement or an excellent company named Mountain Parameters (that has videos and products related to rebuilding and optimizing handwarmers) - you'll find that the handwarmers can be improved easily. BTW: Mountain Parameters is also a Canadian domiciled company!

    I got the electric one for my father in law for Christmas. He loves it. He uses it when attending hockey games and when watching his grandkids play outdoor sports etc. No fluid, no bad smell except the ones he generates himself lol. He hasn't complained about longevity but it's only ever running for about four hours tops. He's even used it to charge his phone. So far so good. If I was to buy one for myself I'd get the fluid one. Lasts longer and I don't care about the odor. I'd use it primarily when fishing. Thanks for the video Mike. I love your channel.

    Here in Taiwan we have dedicated naphtha based fuel to run the hand warmer.
    Much cheaper than zippo lighter fluid.
    355ml of zippo lighter fluid cost about $12
    500ml of hand warmer fuel cost only $6.6
    Since it's so cheap I use it fo fuel my zippos too.
    The best thing is that you can only smell it if you put it right in front of the nose and breath hard..and it's not stinks at all.

    Your issue in the extreme cold, have you tried just leaving the Zippo hand warmer in your pocket, leaving it there, and just putting your hand in your pocket to get warm?
    I do this, and after one hand is warmed up, I just switch to warmer to my other pocket to get my other hand warmer. The residual heat in the pocket I used the first time, keeps my other hand warm in that pocket after switching pockets.
    I am a wildlife researcher and have worked in the field with the Zippo handwarmers and temperatures down to 12°F in the mountains and forests, and I haven’t had an issue as long as the warmers stay in my pockets.
    I recently bought a second one and keep one in both my left and right pockets on my coat, and they work fine. I have noticed that the smaller 6 hour Zippo hand warmers do burn hotter, but their burn time is 6 to 10 hours… or half the runtime of this particular warmer.
    Also I have learned that if you smell the fluid, you simply need to provide more oxygen to the catalytic burner, and it burns much cleaner.
    I thank you for taking the time to provide this information.
    Best wishes kola… 😉

    I never had success with mine skiing/snowboarding. Main issue was trying to get it hot enough to catalyze. Just tried mine off the kitchen stove and it was a huge improvement.
    I had a small cigar/Creme Brulee torch but I never had success with that and I never bought more fuel for it.
    I might try a camping stove next time but it definitely seems very important to get the catalytic converter hot enough. I don't think even overfilling and lighting the zippo fluid near the converter gets hot enough.

    Just use white gas. You don't need to be some type of absolute purist. If the product is good, it'll work with what you put in it. If it needs special fuel to work, then it's useless. Also of course it'll go out if you cool it down, it's a catalytic converter. The best way to use it is warm your hand in your pocket with the warmer, but if you must scald yourself on hot metal until you extinguish the catalyst, then you can also partially pull away the pouch like foreskin. That way you're not absorbing heat energy as fast.
