    The S-Boston is sold out on Amazon. It has great reviews although some complaints about it getting too hot. It is really very handy to put out and save fuel and self ignite. I wonder though about batteries next to a heat source, that does not sound safe. I would rather use a lighter.
    Zippos are currently available on Amazon both 6 hr and 12 hr versions. I'm buying the 12 hr version as I cannot find the Boston.
    This video was so informative and has rich content. I never understood how these gas handwarmers worked, but now I know. I have very cold hands and this will be a godsend. Many thanks!!! Loved it.

    Just used my new Zippo 12 hour warmer the other day when I was skiing. Tucked it down inside the back of my pants, against the small of my back, and I stayed warm and happy all day. I filled it up without the little measuring funnel, so it was all the way full. That sucker stayed hot all day and all night, and ended up going 26 hours in it's pouch, with the top not cinched down at all. I was amazed. It's my new best friend.

    I am a hand warmer aficionado, like my father before me and thought I should pass this on: The "giant" hand warmer about half way through your video, is commonly referred to as "the asterisk" because of the asterisk-like design. It was primarily sold by K-Mart back in the day. The "star" was also sold by K-Mart and everyone and their brother in a few short years. They probably cranked out knock-offs in a Chinese sweat shop by the truck load!

    I use an electronic scale measuring with resolution of grams to weigh the hand warmer to gauge the fill level, so you'll know if it's running low. You can top it off before going out for the day.I keep it in a small airtight case so the fuel doesn't evaporate as quickly, so is not always starting from empty when I fill it, so it's handy to know how much to add before it's full.

      Zippos new wick stinks bigtime The old Jon-e wick is more lick the Peacock is today. Peacock is the best I've used in the 45 years I've used them. I have an old thin vest I stitched a couple pockets in to carry warmers and warm my core on those 5 F nights with 15 mph wind. I work over night outside

    Peacock invented this product category in 1923. Jon-E, Zippo, etc are all KNOCKOFFS of the peacock. The peacock lasts way longer and has a better fill cup than all the rest. The sizing is more convenient too. It is *NOT* made in China, the heating element is made in Japan and the casing is made in Korea.

    S Boston doesn't have the build tolerances to keep the fuel in the cotton but it's great. Would like if it had some kind of boost button for when it's starting from cold, e.g. spray some fuel mist on the burner

    If you haven't already got it in your hand warmer collection, a Zippo fuel canister is a nice item that you can use to carry a small reserve of fuel. It's more like an accessory that looks like jewelry, because the small plastic container you already have is actually easier to use since that's transparent, but this is more durable. You could step on it and it wouldn't leak- maybe best for an emergency backup rather than for regular use.

    I just subscribed I love this video I suffer with Raynaud's syndrome And it is one of the most inconvenient frustrating things I've dealt with over the last few years. Thankfully for my hands I live in Florida. I despise hot weather but because of my hands I kind of need it but unfortunately we are in the winter months and I need to find something to help with this issue I have with the circulation in my hands. Especially 2 days ago I slam my hand in the door and my hand was cold and my fingers were white so The pain got so much worse once my hands warmed up and I'm fed up so I've got to find something and I'm just now starting your video and I'm praying that one of these seem like they can help and will fit in a glove I will write another comment once I finish your video

    Well, one blister trying to catch my hand warmer after lighting it. Need some practice on that.
    I must have what you called a Peacock model as it looks like one based on the cut out grille work. I haven't managed to keep it lit yet, but haven't gotten serious. It was purchased at a garage sale and has no pouch. Made in Hong Kong. Nice condition. For Sale.

    • @pyrofful
      @pyrofful 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you can't get it to light or stay lite because the catalyst needs to be replaced.....maybe the family didn't know why it didn't work and figured they would see it. I never owned one so I'm no expert but I know they burn out after awhile.

    I have only used the catalytic type hand warmer one time and am wondering. . . Did I get ahold of a faulty one or are they all like the one I used? The problem was the fumes. That thing really stunk bad. And after a few hours use, I smelled as if I'd taken a bath in lighter fluid.

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do stink, and how bad depends on what lighter fluid you use. Some stink way worse than others! I also think some hand warmers are worse than others, maybe the hotter burning ones stink less.

    _The Zippos used a higher quality catalyst. It's a Platinum infused Ceramic Fiber as opposed to the cheaper chinese Platinum bonded Glass-Fiber and obviously the chinese aren't going to give you as much platinum as is in the Zippo's catalysts. I noticed that I use much less fuel in my Zippos over the course of a winter, than any other brand.
    _As far as the rechargeable ones go, that Lithium is much to volatile to ever be trusted for my taste._

    • @dev-tv_outdoors
      @dev-tv_outdoors 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The Jon-E "burners" are a little larger. Just buy another good one (look carefully) off eBay. You can buy separate replacement elements, but they are rare and usually-3x higher than just buying a used warmer. Also the Jon-E standard and GI elements are different sizes too. I would go with the Jon-E element. Among my collection, I have a Jon-E with a knock off replacement element form back in the day, but its doesn't get any where near as hot as an authentic Jon-E element.

  • @chrisdenation1

    I'm new to Handwarmers and immediately thought why it's so inconvenient to use it, the refilling seems annoying, the fact that you need a lighter(as non smoker) and the fact that you need to remove the burner or put it into a plastic bag. Why can't there be an ignition like a normal zippo lighter has? And a mechanism that would close the gas chamber would be also ideal... the sboston seems like the best option that fixes most problems but the design is terrible and it's sadly harder to get

    Isn't the 75°C/167°F, the S-Boston can reach, not a problem for the AAA batteries? Even the highest quality batteries have a hard time with temperatures over 40°C/104°F and let's face it, the vast majority don't put the expensive top tier batteries in a handwarmer.

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've often wondered why this doesn't appear to be an issue. The top of the hand warmer doesn't get nearly as hot as the body, maybe this is why my pockets haven't exploded yet. I also use cheap batteries in mine.

    not all jon-e warmers have red burner or a wick,i have two without those.ive herd about the catalyst stuff but have made my own burners that works well.its a trick ive never told anyone and have found these warmers without burners cause its impossible to find a new jon-e burner.but you can make a coil of wire ,stuff it with fiber glass insulation,then put a fiber glass sleeve around that.fiber glass sleeve can be found at electronic stores or some hardware stores as a wire insulation,for wires that get hot.a really cheap way to make a new burner for your hand warmer.it works just like the original.

      +Craig Davis When I get home I'll listen to the video and see if I can fix it. Santa came down the stove pipe earlier this week and shoved a new Mic in a dirty old sock that I had hanging on the side of a hamper. Hopefully that improves the sound in future videos.

      Especially during the winter months. They seem to be the best right now but you sure do have to pay for them.

      +Jay Johnson Pretty sure I paid $65 for mine a few years ago. If it ever dies, I will buy another.

    Peacock is NOT Chinese. It is a Japanese/Korean Company and is 100 times better than the Zippo
