    You have the orange straps in the wrong place. They go between the bed and tailgate and hook under by the bumper.

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. I will have to take a look at that. Thanks. Not sure that'll fix that gaps, but I wonder if it'll fix the zipper issue.

      No. They work fine on the tie-downs.

    I really appreciate how you give a straightforward review. I think you gave it a fair shake and point out the pros and cons really fairly, and it certainly will help folks make a smart decision in the future.

    The zipper wouldn't be an issue if you adjusted the straps. You can see how the tent is over- tight on that corner.

    Hello friend. For the past month we have been discussing which tent to buy for next spring so any information is welcome. 👌
    We want to buy it as a Christmas present. Of course it makes it essential to be waterproof.👍

      Well admittedly I do not recommend this one. It's got some design problems. If you're looking for a truck tent, Napier makes a great one I'll be reviewing in the next few weeks. But if you want a backpacking tent, check out Hyke And Byke Zion 1 or 2p.

    I have the same tent for a Chevy Silverado and it fits perfect. I haven’t tested it in the rain yet so we shall see. So far I’ve camped with it once and it worked great. I have the same mattress too. I carry a portable power station to run my cpap so it came in handy to air up the mattress as well.

    • @RussellVineyard

      Hmm. I'm going to take it out again soon. Someone pointed out that I may have done something wrong in the setup.

      @@RussellVineyard I ran my orange straps to the tie down rings on the inside wall of the bed just like you did. I think the purpose of the orange straps is to be able to pull them tight to keep the sides of the tent pulled tight to the bed rails. Shouldn’t matter if they go between the bed and tailgate. I couldn’t really tell how you ran the tent fabric on the bumper but it should tucked in behind it. That may fix the gap issue. That’s how I did mine and didn’t notice the gap. Doesn’t mean there wasn’t a gap, I just didn’t notice one.

    I like the way you get to point! As far as the gap and tightness, maybe you have the wrong size tent?

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No sense in beating around the bush.
      I've got the right size tent. The liner in my truck bed is causing the tightness. The gaps are a poor design.

    I just got this for my tacoma as well. Gonna give it a shot in the rain this weekend out in Veneta. That rona mandate was total bs. If it's Brown, flush it down!

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Enjoy. There are a few problems I had with it. The major one being that there's no flooring which allowed for a few gaps by the tailgate. But it's not a bad tent in the rain.

    hey boss I have the same tent and I am debating on getting the air mattress too because mine is too big and presses on the door which makes that zipper even tighter than it already is. What size is your bed and does their air mattress press against the door at all? Good video by the way, glad you rain tested so I didn't have to learn the hard way ;).

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have the air mattress and it’s solid! I have a 5.5 foot bed. The mattress is extremely good and durable (which is quite important to me cause I’m hard on my gear). And, it’s nice and comfy.

  • @jackbyrd381
    @jackbyrd381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With those gaps, looks like you could get a lot of CO2 in the tent if you ran the engine for any period of time. Also, with the slanted entry, wouldn't you get rain on the tailgate section of the tent with rain. We would need to have our mattress go all the way out onto the tailgate with our 5.5 foot Tacoma bed, so it would get wet if you opened the tent in the rain to get out. That's disappointing.

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of this is very true. The mattress does go almost all the way to the end. This is absolutely a summer set up. It holds up in the rain but you'd have to keep it zipped up. Meaning the interior doesn't leak at all. There would be an exhaust issue anyway you look at it if you left the truck running while in the tent. There are definitely higher quality truck bed tents out there that I'm looking into.

  • @horrorland11

    I am going to try this tent this upcoming spring! The only thing I am debating is a mattress that has the exact shape of the bed (Which fills in the area behind the wheel wells). It is twice the price of a regular mattress. Do you think it's worth it?

    • @RussellVineyard

    Did you ever figure the zipper issue or the gap?

    • @RussellVineyard
      @RussellVineyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Best I can tell is my bed lining is messing with the size and too tight on the zipper. The gap thing is a design flaw.

    • @troyvalentinoriedel
      @troyvalentinoriedel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RussellVineyard You have to drop those orange straps (the ones you attached to your bed anchors) down through the gap between the tailgate & the bed (slightly lift tailgate to open the gap, then drop the straps), then attach the straps under the bumper/under the body (you could even attach each clip to a bolt - whatever works). This will totally eliminate the gap. It might also solve your zipper closing issue.
