i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Anakin Rudy I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
David's design for the bed storage is incredible. I find that I can't wait to see what he comes up with next. This is a fantastic series for a great charity.
The only flaw with it (and this is the case for mass produced storage solutions similar to his as well) is how shallow it makes the bed, especially in a Taco or Ranger where the bed is already pretty shallow. Doesn't really allow much head room or room for a mattress.
i LOVE seeing overland rigs with DIY gear i welded my bed rack myself out of some square tubing maybe it’s just me but after a certain point the ig rigs all look the same
Just installed my wife and I just installed our new soft topper over the weekend and i will say that im very picky and if i did not think it would work i wouldnt have purchased it. With that being said, i am very impressed at the finished product and the versatility it provides over any other top. Money well spent..thanks to soft topper and their top notch customer service
I second this notion! Kase and Tommy have a great partnership and onscreen dynamic. It seems like they would be friends off camera too so why not go on a camping trip with Blaze.
You found a bunch of cases, empty ones. you guys did a great job on the video. Excellent job on the bed box David, nice routing the boards tight and clean. Soft topper looks good on it nice choice guys. Don't use it in bear territory in spring if you are a heavy sleeper. Whoever ends up buying this will enjoy all the work you are putting into this little truck.
Nice looking insert! I'd consider adding something to clip/attach the insert to the bed, maybe back by the tailgate, since it can still hop up and move/flip when over rough terrain. Ask me how I know...😐
I’ve seen some people build homemade sliding platforms like that but I don’t think any of them have the excellent fit and quality of David’s work I do some wood working myself I wish I had the skill that he has
i bought the Aluminum ARE for the same truck and it was 2k for the standard model and 2200 for the one i got thats 4 inches taller and im so glad i got it... 100 percent secure with three locks and no windows ... i can squeeze an amazing amount of stuff in that truck now
Also, a Hard Top costs $2500 from LEER and the top requires a Folklift to install and remove. Essentially its a permanent fixture. I like this DIY approach- very simple, modular and inexpensive . THANKS
I work a wildland fire mgmt team and have lived for up to 2 weeks at a time out of my truck bed. This is one of the better layouts, especially for a little Toyota, I have seen. I use a short bed Ram and like the extra room. May model one for me on David's design here.
Never been huge on soft top canopies, they always seemed very flimsy and cheap. But the one you’ve got actually looks very nice, and the “safari mode” is awesome. Great team up with Soft Topper. May have me convinced on getting one
Good stuff guys!! I did something similar in my 97 Chevy I used for hunting (in the bed) but instead of a pain in the but air mattress I used sofa foam and an indoor/outdoor fabric to upholster the side I slept on most.worked really well and had an extra piece of plane painted wood to put in the spot if I wasn’t going sleep in the truck.the truck came out really good thanks
I was initially thinking that the wood should be painted black, but honestly I think a nice boiled linseed oil finish would be absolutely perfect. It will not rub off on the sliding surfaces and will even add some lubricity. It will seal out moisture, especially where the edges contact the bottom of the bed, prevent splinters, and really make the wood look nice. Finally, it’s easy to reapply every year to maintain the finish.
Soft top looks much better on the Tacoma then a 1/2 ton. I would have chosen the color black, but that's personal preference. David's storage solution...he needs to diagram what he did, document materials used, and sell the kit. Ingenious how versatile it is.
Put a slide out drawer in the space under the bed. Make covers over the drawer out of cutting board material and you have an easy to clean table! Then, it's perfect. Might just have to do this with my tacoma.
I would be amazing if the topper had a mesh layer that could be used while in safari mode to allow protection from insects but also give you ample air circulation!
Easiest way to get plastic bed liners in/out is to physically fold the middle like a taco. It releases the liner from the sides and you can pull it right out/put it right in (like most things in life).
I have a very similar setup on my Ram 1500 with the softopper and sleeping platform. It's great except when It rains. Everything near the tailgate gets soaked when you open the back to climb in and out. I live in Oregon where it rains 7 months out of the year. I ended up buying a rack and awning to cover the tailgate in the rain.
This is sick! Awesomeness really!! All these other overlanders are overpriced and not as simple handcrafted and unique to your necessity! Thanks so much 😁
Great video! Blows the mind to see people buy new vehicles for off-roading. And the idea of making payments on that vehicle and paying interest on a depreciating purchase makes it even worse. It’s like saying a car/truck is an investment, which the first sign someone has absolutely no clue about basic economics.
They never said it was a fast and cheap solution. It is for budget and if you do have an actual budget, completing this whole project in a single day might be more than what can be afforded at the time. If you want fast maybe you should buy one instead 😂
Great build of Baby Yota, Liking bedliner idea, there so many great ideas that are affordable like I have swag to one side of flat tray bed n next I have toolbox with wash basin n esky or icebox. Cheap bbq n sun shade does the job, with LED lights. Looking forward to seeing finished Baby Yota👍
This is a great build out for camping in the back of your truck!! I really liked the wooden bed and storage set up--- very basic, affordable, and quickly removeable ! Great job to everyone involved with this project! I also really like the softopper set up! I will have to look into one of these. We have an F350 Long Bed to pull our travel trailer. We are struggling to decide how to weather protect our bed contents-- tarp, softopper, or hard topper. Those hard topper's provide great protection, but they sure are expensive and difficult to take off the truck; especially when solo.
thats why you put it on an incline, lift the rear of the bed liner and spray wash and wax under, then rinse after, it will keep it clear of debris. it's not fun trying to put sand and salt containers from the town fill for winter when you can't slide them in
Great build and video. It would be nice to see that soft topper have a better way to mount to truck besides those big clamps that I would not want to hit an elbow or shin on.
What a coincidence! I’ve been thinking I want to road trip in my 2012 single cab at some point after covid and had no idea how I was gonna do it! As a side note I kinda like the plastic beds on the newer Tacoma’s because up here in the snow it’s just one less part to worry about rust on lol
Favorite Saturday morning show.
Great job guys .

@Anakin Rudy It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
@Briar Hugo you are welcome xD
David rocks..keep that dude around
I second that
Who is David..
Great video..
David also reminds me a lot of my dad with the ideas that he comes up with
I’m starting to warm up to the soft top. And David is very good at what he does.

no doubt he is an excellent carpenter!
Holy crap. That bed structure is exquisite.
You guys hit a home run with this video! David is my hero
i LOVE seeing overland rigs with DIY gear
i welded my bed rack myself out of some square tubing
maybe it’s just me but after a certain point the ig rigs all look the same
This Rancher dude is a great contributor....... he did a great job with that wood work for the back......
David is a super star ! Kase, Alex and Tommy are awesome also !
The baby Yota series is the best one so far across all of the TFL channels. Great job guys.
David just has natural stage presence and a really great way of explaining things. Hope we can see more of him and this badass truck in the future.
David is a genius lol
9:47 Using a truck...as a truck.... Genius!
I want to see you guys do a "weld it yourself" bumper kit. You'll save money, and seeing the process would be cool!
Yup! Coastal Offroad has one.

Next video needs to be a Tommy and Kase camping trip
What are you insinuating? 😍
I second this notion! Kase and Tommy have a great partnership and onscreen dynamic. It seems like they would be friends off camera too so why not go on a camping trip with Blaze.
On my 04 Colorado I bought a fiberglass shell for $180 on Craigslist and essentially did the same thing. Love it
The softtopper looks great on that truck.
David has a gift of building!

The woodworks may seem simple, but the imagination and skills required to make it is astounding. Great Job!!!
I love watching TFL classics every weekend. Great way to start the day with a cup of coffee and learn new tips and tricks!
Love this version of the TFL channel. Very easy to approach and affordable projects.
Solid work guys. After the big budget Gladiator it's nice to see you showing folks with smaller budgets what's still possible.
That video was a real winner! Low budget truck with very practical and inexpensive solution for an overland rig. Great work!
Good craftsmanship that’s crazy he could defiantly sell custom overland truck bed organizers for good money
Nice looking insert! I'd consider adding something to clip/attach the insert to the bed, maybe back by the tailgate, since it can still hop up and move/flip when over rough terrain. Ask me how I know...😐
Sweet teamwork on this build guys!!
Bedliner refresh, wood workmanship and cool fold-away top makes this project a dream system.
That guy is so modest, true carpenter
Nice, this weekend I made a thermo liner for my softopper , can’t wait to test it out cold camping.
Please post a link to pix and or design.. that sounds awesome
Mr David a hard working man and very talented. My respect and admiration for him.
These are my favorite kind of TFL videos feels like I’m watching cable TV
That David guy really knows what is doing and has a really nice garage.
Surprised how well this worked and a lot cheaper than the pros.
David is an artist and the truck bed sleeping platform is his masterpiece.
Man, the carpenter’s ability to showcase his skills is really incredible to watch.

Hi, is it possible to get some specifications from David on how he built your sleeping rack? I literally need that same setup you have
David does it again. Great collaboration. Scrapie, functional, versatile and built for long term use. Should add product links to the description.
David is one of those handy creative fela and this is oweson project guys all for a good entity keep it up

Thats a great idea Ordo... We put tung oil on all surfaces. its a lot like linseed oil but a bit more expensive but it doesn't leave an oily residue.
WOW! Best storage solution I've seen thus far.
Looks awesome with the Soft Top! Amazing carpentry - that dude has skills! Looking forward to more offroad mods 👍
Perfect. Can't wait to see more of the build.

Great video guys! And thanks for using our track "Pretty Carolina" 🤘🏾 full song is out now everywhere. Peace and Love ❤️
Awesome video, they keep getting better. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

On the Baby Yota, I like the soft topper.
Nice workmanship! Well done on the bed system!
Is there anyway you could post an in depth plans or a video on making the bed/storage system?
Need that platforn!
I'm digging Safari mode. I love being outside but also in the shade. I'm melanin challenged.

Love the build. The module build for the storage and bed is just what I was looking for to put in my 2022. Thankyou

"Anybody can do this". Sure but for some it'll take 8 hours. for others 8 days. for some 8 weeks...
Gimme 8months and I might have it done
They never said it was a fast and cheap solution. It is for budget and if you do have an actual budget, completing this whole project in a single day might be more than what can be afforded at the time. If you want fast maybe you should buy one instead 😂
That bed system is amazing... pvc that design on patent for my friend..... compliments to the designer...
love the look of the brown soft-top over that 2 door silver tacoma. If only I could get my hand on a manual one!
Built something similar in the bed of my truck back in the 80s. It was great to keep smaller things from rolling around in the bed.
Damn that taco sleeper is sick! Now it just needs a topper tent 👍
Awesome project guys! Love, love, love that you are doing this for Mountain States Children's Home!!! Thank you.
No matter the age, boys will always build forts.
Excellent job! I hope on your short list of upgrades is to replace those candles up front for some LED's!
Best bed set up I’ve seen
Really enjoy seeing progress on this awesome little truck! Can’t wait to see it’s final form! Much love from Texas!
Wow! That is some incredible work on that wooden bed system. I can't even imagine how much careful measuring and trimming that took.
Another request for David's plans for that bed storage system. Really trick!
Thanks for this. I was fixing up an old van to travel in. It's been a neverending money pit. Going to just buy a soft topper for my truck.
Presentation was outstanding in this video! Will be using this product in the near future.
Great build of Baby Yota, Liking bedliner idea, there so many great ideas that are affordable like I have swag to one side of flat tray bed n next I have toolbox with wash basin n esky or icebox. Cheap bbq n sun shade does the job, with LED lights. Looking forward to seeing finished Baby Yota👍

wow great book easy read and the sound track is a must hear
Great Content, keep giving us more of this.
2:07 great idea with the PVC storing the tools
thats why you put it on an incline, lift the rear of the bed liner and spray wash and wax under, then rinse after, it will keep it clear of debris. it's not fun trying to put sand and salt containers from the town fill for winter when you can't slide them in
This is beautiful work from David.
Great build and video. It would be nice to see that soft topper have a better way to mount to truck besides those big clamps that I would not want to hit an elbow or shin on.
Nice truck! Don’t forget to add a locking tailgate to prevent your gear from knocking the tailgate option when loaded out.
I want to hang out with David. What a gent!
What a coincidence! I’ve been thinking I want to road trip in my 2012 single cab at some point after covid and had no idea how I was gonna do it! As a side note I kinda like the plastic beds on the newer Tacoma’s because up here in the snow it’s just one less part to worry about rust on lol
Pretty Cool. A good step above ordinary out the bed of the camping.
I gotta get a truck like that and just camp in it do need for house anymore
Is there anyway you can post the design for the bed and storage? I would love to make that for mine.
Ditto
@@HighPr00f Triple ditto
Good project, but need to prime and raptor line the wood. If not, that's going to warp the first time it gets wet.
I agree, the soft top should have been black. Otherwise, liking the build
And they used the best truck for the job- you have my applause!
Carpenter’s always amaze me
Didn't look on their site but, do they have screens for the "safari" mode?
Raptor liner got luuuuccky!! That’s a lot of free advertising
So cool. I didn’t realize softtopper was a Boulder based company. Nice
Its great ! I have the same truck and I’ve been wanting to do those same add ons. Keep up the good work.
