I just started Uke in late December. I'm not a musician but I am really enjoying learning. I am in my late fifties and wish I started as a kid but music wasn't part of my family. I am happy I finally started. Never too late. Happy to have found your videos too.
Hi Stu I have recently learned your song mapuana and it is amazing thanks you :) I have been playing just for seven months but the progress is immeasurable. hah I was playing in my yard yesterday and people started giving me money that’s a sign for sure. Just thanks for everything, love your channel
It's for watching! I appreciate you picking up on the vibe… Music makes an amazing parallel to life as I'm sure you know 😊 🎶 Thanks for watching - please subscribe for more vids from this channel: th-cam.com/users/ukulelezen
Hi Stu... Thanks for sharing this tip with us all... This sounds so nice and it feels good impressing family members... I always enjoy trying your lessons. 🎓
Too kind! I miss Holland very much - I had the pleasure of staying 2x in Haarlem where I practiced a lot of guitar after a tour of Europe. Glad you enjoy the lessons...more every week - subscribing is always appreciated. Dank je Vel! (that's unfortunately all the Dutch I know!)
I just argued with my fingers because they absolutely want to make me do something else! But.... Who is the patreon? 😁 Thanks Stu for this lesson which always explores more and more this beautiful technique and for the very nice variation around these chords...so sweet....
Ukulele is a great instrument. There is no question about that. What I strongly disagree with is the suggestion that Ukulele is simpler or that it’s better than a normal or any type of guitar; or that if someone is a beginner they should start with it. I think for each of these instruments the concepts needed to learn are the same regardless of how many strings or what size it is.
With you 100%! This is why while I teach ukulele lessons, what I'm REALLY teaching is: How to play music. And deeper than that… How to play and practice in a way that is nourishing for our lives. Thank you for watching my channel 🎶😊
Thanks Stu, you really are a wonderful teacher. What finger picking style would you recommend for John Prine’s song Fish and Whistle please? Many thanks

Thanks Anna....It's a bit of both. Some patterns are better for some songs than others. Always trust your ear for sure...I'll show more specific song to pattern relationships soon with Bob Dylan song :).
Yes, you could re arrange the patterns in different ways. The intention here is to keep fingers aligned on specific strings...but YES - do YOUR thing ;-) Hope you'll subscribe for more videos like this one: th-cam.com/users/ukulelezen
Can't hurt to jump in & give it a try. You'll want to do it in a way where your hand feel soft and relaxed… Watch some of my other videos to reinforce this lightness of touch. Keep on strumming! Thanks & I hope you'll subscribe for more videos from Ukulele Zen ;-) goo.gl/rMXsnw
i d like to know what PIMA is for ?, can you play it with any songs. could you make a tuto about not only technique but about how to use picking in songs. Do one need more knowledge about music, or solphege to understand ?
PIMA is a system/language for labeling the patterns used. You can apply them to any song in 4/4 time...in the future we'll be using a song to finger style pattern relationship for sure!
Hi Stu. First sorry for my poor English but I have a question. In the video from 6.08 to 6.32 you are showing how to play pattern 3. Then you start playing from 6.32 (with chords C/G/F/G/C) BUT when I play the pattern it sounds different...because.... I have watched that part over and over again and have noticed you are (fast) playing not the pattern that you were showing slowly... So the pattern “pinch i m i a i m i” you are playing slow is not the same like the pattern you play fast. There you hit the first (A) string one more time in each pattern. Am I right?
Yes, that is what I showed....the first "pinch" canals be a three fingered pinch - I show that during that section of the video...thanks for watching & please subscribe to keep in the loop of more videos from my channel 🎶🤙😊
Try keeping the hand stable - too much bouncing can lead to the fingers missing the strings...slow it way down & relax as you train this. More vids coming ll the time! Please subscribe to the channel here (thanks!): th-cam.com/users/ukulelezen
You should also show the chords n string pattern images while were playing the instrument for a clear understanding ... Had to struggle what strings you were playing at wat tym 🙄
It would be helpful if you went a little bit slower and separated your fingers a little bit more while demonstrating so it’s easier to see what you’re doing. But thank you for posting

Can these patterns be used with low g?
Dod you mean high G? Yes indeed. All tunings good for these...just a different sound. (This is a Low G uke in tis video)
the first pattern sounds perfcet for imagine, just add the 0-1-2 on the A string every two bars for the verse and you got it
Great idea Jose! Thanks!

Thanks so much for watching and joining in Harpal! 🙏

Was any of these melodies called "Canon in D"?
Yes, these patterns could certainly sound great over those same chords used in Canon in D 👍🎶
