      Hum.. someone didn't see the video of jake Shimabukuro explaining his triple strum.. you should look at it, it's way better than going down with the thumb, that is so complicated (because when your nail comes up, you don't miss the strings!)

    I like that you added a nice chord progression to this exercise to keep us interested. That's the extra mile. I also find it interesting how some people use their thumb on the downstrum and some on the up. I'm practicing both variations. Thanks so much!

    Outstanding intro to the blues. I have checked out numerous blues videos which sound great but - nothing in terms of a solid learning experience. Perhaps it is your mediations but you send out a message of "possibility" instead of the implicit: "you can't do it" like many teachers. I love that old song too. Thanks for reminding me of it.

      Stu, I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot. You are a fantastic player and equally great teacher.
      I believe that music has the ability to bridge a lot of differences of opinion between people. I’m a proponent of peace but also a realist, having spent a career in the military. Unfortunately, I found myself at war more than a little and like it or not, there are folks hellbent on hurting others. In any case, it’s a nasty necessity and will always be.
      But music can make ya forget the bad stuff. Love ya man.

      Try making the strum in the air - just playing imaginary strong… This will put you in touch with what it’s like to have a very light touch. Next, try it on the strings but brush them very lightly. It takes a while and some repetition to cultivate a light touch on the instrument… Keep your fingers the original ones are the best 😉🎶 Be well, Stu

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The slower you go, the quicker you’ll get there. It’s counterintuitive but in my experience, very true 😉 I like to think of slow motion practice as “glacial tempo”... moving slowly as a glacier! When you can make the motions with a soft hand try to pick up the pace - after some time you’ll be amazed at how you can keep the hand soft and still execute the same motion! 👍

    The worst part about learning a new strum is that I forget about my fretting hand and I hold on to the same chord for like 5 minutes until I realize i should probably change chords lol but within an hour I pretty much got it down :) very great lesson.

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear you. Hold an easier chord, or just muffle the strings for practice...always gives the hand a nice break to do that!

  • @jyutzler
    @jyutzler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The hardest thing about this was the fingering for the D chord to prepare for the upcoming diminished chord.

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Jeff…takes a whole to get these new coordinations into our fretting hand 🙌🤙🎶😊

    • @jyutzler
      @jyutzler ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UkuleleZen I'm going to keep practicing it, but I'm not convinced I can reliably cover the third string with my index finger. I see how it is faster than the traditional fingering of the D chord and you don't get that slight pull-off sound as your middle fingers switch places. I'm just getting a lot of 02X2 instead of 0222.

    I've just discovered your channel. Thanks for the great content.. quick question: I have been strumming down on the back of my index finger, then back up on the back of my thumb.. you've described the up stum on the pad of the index.. is there an advantage gained there? Why is on preferable over the other? Thanks!

    Are your strings loose? I’m pretty sure my strings don’t move like that. Btw. I’m a newbie, so it’s possible I’m totally wrong;)

    Hi Stu
    I learned this from a Shimabukuro video a while ago, and he is teaching down with index on strings (follow with thumb) and then back up with thumb and index on strings, works great for me. But would you say one is better than the other in certain situations?
    I can't change now :)

    • @UkuleleZen

      Do what is natural for YOU. That is the essence of Zen...just be your natural self as you play - these are suggestions I'm sharing 😉🤙🎶

    Is it wrong to use thumb on last triplet upstroke? index down, thumb down, thumb up

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way is it wrong...do it the way you feel comfortable. PLUS - there's another one you can try that uses that same motion:
      Thumb UP, fingers OUT (down), Thumb DOWN...end with Thumb UP. Dig iT!
      Hope you'll subscribe to the channel & ring the bell...new vids every week! goo.gl/rMXsnw Wishing you well, Stu 🤙🎶

    I keep getting my thumb caught on the G string when I do this..any tips please?

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Judy, try brushing the string with just the tip of the thumb… You may like to file down your nail a bit especially the corner that is on the string side of the thumb so it doesn’t get caught.

    A small doubt . Which part of ur thumb is touching the strings ?

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Close to the top & nail...kinda on the pad...I would recommend you float your hand above the strings and see where your fingers graze them naturally. This way you’ll find the way it works best for YOU 🙏🏻☯️🎶

    Trying to follow the easy triplet strums tutorial and it says there is a free tutorial songsheet available at www.stufuchs.com/store, but I've looked on there and cannot find this free sheet. Unless i am missing something, it would be a great idea to have a tab saying something like Free Songsheet, so that when we try and follow your lessons , we will have the songsheet as well. Of course, the free songsheet might be there, but I just cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers and keep up the excellent work Stu.

      Got to that link for the store & click on the logo where it says "FREE TABS & GOODIES". It'll take you to a list. I now offer tabs at my Patreon Page for a low monthly donation...but those first tabs (lots of them) are all there for you to enjoy. Jam on! Thanks for watching & hope you'll subscribe & ring the notification bell for more vids!
