  • Here are two settings of “The Foggy Dew.” The first is a traditional Irish major key version that was collected by Edward Bunting from J. McKnight, Esq., in 1839 and published in the third volume of his Ancient Music of Ireland. The second variation is in the minor key and is taken from the Irish traditional love song “The Moorlough Shore.” After the 1916 Easter Uprising Father Charles O’Neill of Belfast wrote lyrics to the tune under the title "The Foggy Dew" lamenting the fallen heroes of the revolt. In 1995 Sinead O' Connor reordered a memorable rendition of Fr. O'Connor's famous song for the Chieftain’s collaboration album "The Long Black Veil."
The guitar arrangement is from the book "The Celtic Encyclopedia - Fingerstyle Guitar Edition," (Mel Bay) by Glenn Weiser.
Performed by Glenn Weiser on a 1928 0-21 Martin guitar. Recorded December 18, 2013 at the Soundry, Soddy-Daisy, TN.
