  • This isn't the more famous Irish Rebel song, but the West Country song that Robert Burns also borrowed -- Roud Folk Song Index No. 558 -- but with apologies to the incredible Mac Gloinn brothers (otherwise known as Ye Vagabonds), I've in turn borrowed theirs and arranged it for guitar (they play it on bouzouki and harmonium, and it's bloomin' beautiful).

Life's too short to be shy about anything you enjoy doing bud. As big and ugly as I am I spent years hiding away because I'm not 'good enough' at things... decided if I did that forever I'd look back and see that I'd worried too much about what everyone else thought. I'm not the best singer and I know it, but it's sure a lot of fun doing it :) Just be thankful you don't live me me (my poor wife!).

@@rickjones641 Rick, one of my uncles told me that "being a perfectionist is OK. don't be disappointed when you do not achieve it." I fingerpick and I could always sing. But Never both. Well, I tried and can do both now. I will keep it up. Learning that you are Welsh explained it all. I heard Tom Jones talking about the way the Welsh sing. Just like Cape Breton has fiddlers and pickers, Wales has singers.

I was playing it in drop D and only changed to DADGAD as I made this video, so now after a few weeks of playing this arrangement to death I have a lot more of the fills and trills down, and can make it sound a bit more 'celtic', for want of a better word. :)
