I think I personally would have left the plenum squared without cutting the notch out of it and then just do a simple 4 piece that would have made up the angled transition.
    That’s just me
    👍🏻 good work Steve

Great video. My air handler was designed at my request for a 5” thick MERV 16 filter. My particle counter is always near zero and my wife has no allergies in the house anymore. I also added a ventilating dehumidifier. I couldn’t sleep in the new house. It was well enough sealed that it needed ventilation air. Now I sleep soundly and dream again. Our VOC’s and C02 were too high and needed fresh air.

You take some pride in your work. Makes a change from what i used to see in duct work from day to say. That cross bracing is excellent, the amount of times I see just a flat bit f metal shoved in and taped up!! How are the birds getting in? It must be a simple thing? Anyway. I thought you might have let us see the finished work! Anyway, nice job.

I used Filtrete MERV 11 filters for years and didn't have any issues, no pressure drop whatsoever...living in the Deep South, I did change them every 30 days especially during the summer months...we bought a new home with a 5 ton Trane variable fan speed HVAC system. It uses dual AprilAire 16x25x4 "accordian" type filters...the manufacturer claims they can last 6-12 months...after about 90 days, they need changing..at $105 for the pair, they're not cheap but neither is a $25,000 heating and cooling system.

Good job on the tin work. Most HVAC "installers" wouldnt bother because they dont know how, dont care, or just want fast money. Sad really. Also just a tip but when checking for leaks use the solid stream on the bottle instead of the spray. That way you arent making your own bubbles when you spray.

I love to watch you work. Install is a form of art! Question: why all the s-lock? I used to install in my earlier years. For ductwork situations like this, I'd mark my metal the full length of the side then add an inch on the right side. Bend that side in then screw it into the next side piece... each side lapping over onto the next. Made easy work of it and smooth taping. Very sturdy without fighting with the s-lock. Just curious. Watching your videos makes me want to work again!

I installed an entire system, ducting/gas lines/furnace and condenser in a gut remodel. Pulled all permits with the state and passed with flying colors in 2020. DIY all the way. As an HVAC tech, you really would not see the homeowner success stories since they would not be calling you. 😉😉

I think the A/C condenser was the worst for the wear of it all. You didn't lie to the guy, so he knew it wasn't desperately needing replacement or anything, but I don't blame him for deciding to just replace the old thing before anything went bad.

Steve - I was wondering about the gas valve - - if it's a ball type, it sort of looks like in the video (could be the camera angle) that it's turned beyond full open. Thanks for posting this, especially loved all the tips on the sheet metal work, so appreciate you sharing (as all of your vids) your years of expertise and professionalism. btw, even though I've got the 12" model snippers, I ordered the 14 like the one's you're using, thanks for that tip.
