Just imagined doing a bookshelf tour: "Here's some bigger ones, smallest ones on this shelf. This one is full of letters. These ones are blue. Just love them. "
as someone with a pretty bookshelf, I really get what you mean. While I have many books in my bookshelf that I haven't read yet, I bought them with the intend of reading them. Either because I'm genuinely interested in the story or because I know that it's a classic piece of literature. More often than not, both of these apply. Agree with both of you, everytime there's a closet tour we always see the same big brands and nothing new or fresh, or at least more niche. There's also always an insane amount of Chanel and Hermes' Birkin (yeah not Hermes in general, just the Birkins lol) It's such a waste to have access to basically all the designers out there and yet ending up with always with the same big ones
Jacklyn is to me an embodiment of a person who quickly came to money and decided to buy the sparkliest most obnoxious pieces to show of the money. Her aesthetic always seems kinda tacky, even her house (from what I remember) was this grey white and bedazzled nightmare.
Exactly, people like her and Jeffree Star are the definition of tacky nouveau riche. (FYI I’m not saying being old money rich makes you a better person or anything eat the rich no matter what but I just mean they are the epitome of that tacky new money that they don’t know what to do with “aesthetic”)
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Have lots of all the brands and I love them but I get as many compliments for my Target wear as I do for my Alaia and I dry clean both. Respect on Target’s name!
This has always been a thing even before social media. Where have you been? I think with social media there are some more underground brands getting spotlight. For the most part people do tend to have the same brands. But yeah back in the 1990s and 2000s tabloids would talk about Paris Hilton’s closet or some shit.
I'm really trying to be nice and open about her, but not only is her taste bland, her sentences are too. There is no essence in it. "I have these shoes. I sorted them by colour. I love this shoes. I walked in this shoes. I deserved this. These are T-shirts. I wear them everyday. I love these T-shirts, I wear them so much." She even said it herself: "I don't have to use my brain".
I use to think she was an airhead but apparently she has issues with depression, anxiety, and alcohol, all of which can contribute to cognitive decline/impairment. I don't know too much about her but I think she went through a rough divorce around the time of the video too, which would make things a lot worse.
I do think there's a pressure for TH-cam MUAs to be "fashion girls" because they're also influencers. Jaclyn seems to be attracted to things that are easy to use, comfortable, shiny, and hold sentimental value, which are not necessarily "fashion girl" things. I wish more people felt permission to not need to love fashion. She doesn't even seem to be that excited by the mountain of luxury items she has in the same way J*fr** was, she definitely seemed to care more about showing her organizational system and her most loved items...which were things she talked about being good for a long time. She seems to have a pretty utilitarian approach, which I wish more people were comfortable with. Take your shoes to a cobbler! Have a go to bag! Let your friends use your stuff! You don't NEED to be fashionable.
Not really. Half the time you only see them from the shoulders up, so whatever pressure they're feeling is self-imposed. There is no pressure on beauty youtubers to buy luxury clothing and designer shoes.
@@AnjaliDandriyal while I get what you mean, I think internal pressure is still pressure. They still believe they need to fit into a mold, and that is the issue. I’m not trying to say their life is harder or anything, just that their self-imposed pressure is just as valid as external pressure. I don’t think Jaclyn’s satisfied or comfortable with her closet, and that makes me sad because she has the wealth to achieve a satisfied life. Unfortunately, she feels that pressure to deviate from what makes her happy, and suddenly she has a closet full of tacky designer clothes.
Lol she buys it because she sees it on others on insta. Oh pressure! Pressure is to be starving and a family to feed; not some superficial need to buy tacky over expensive brand. Actually if she has some essence some personal style and would do a “contra”-culture thing like being different from everyone one else of these instagramers she actually would be a sucess
FINALLY someone who I can tell actually watched the video. I swear some people probably just watch two seconds then leave some generic shit like “they like the brand. They don’t like fashion.” BS gets 1K likes. Yeah, based on this video, she only bought things that look nice but probably doesn’t use. Only some hold a lot of value to her while others are collector items so she can fill up her closet for these closet tours to fill people’s materialism and make people say “I’m so jealous! Absolute goals!!!”
@@AnjaliDandriyal the pressure isn’t from stupid Jimmies like you or me. Sure one poor bitch will be like “wow Jacklyn, with as much money you make, you gotta wear Chanel everyday”. But that’s a dime in a thousand dollars. The pressure is from their friends like Jeffrey Star, Patrick Starr, James Charles, Nikita Dragun, other MUAs (tbh I know some of those are canceled but I don’t know the make up community) and other people she interacts with. Those are some rich bitches and they have nice brand names. She doesn’t want to seem pope in comparison to her counterparts so she is pressured to be fashionable.
She’s not in love w/fashion, she’s in love w/splurging on fashion. How can someone claim to loooove fashion yet has 2 pay someone to put her outfits together bc she admits not knowing how 2 dress herself.
You can enjoy looking at fashionable items but not know the slightest thing about styling them. Styling is more than just the clothing itself but about your body type and how the clothes can compliment your body. Fashion is also about knowing trends and other iconic things. Even the most artistic person would need a second pair of eyes to help know what looks good sometimes.
Honestly I get it. I feel like the 2000s when I was a kid to 2010s is my peak “I wanna buy ALL the clothes”. Difference is, Jacklyn had the money to buy all of the clothes while I’m just a kid with no income.
with every section she's like 'soooo we have organized this by color going from white to black'. And I'm like.. girl we can see that. Now tell us something we can't actually see
I will say, as someone who has a fluctuating weight (that ultimately has trended upwards), I do feel like my relationship with the clothing in my closet is more sensitive than my relationship with accessories I own. I wonder if this closet tour's lack of clothing focus is related to Jacklyn's own insecurities. I have things in my closet I love, but either no longer fit me or never fit me, and it's hard to even really look at those items now. I wonder if she is in a similar headspace.
I'd get rid of those things, sell them, gift them to friends, donate them,.. So that someone else can actually use those pieces and they don't make you feel bad.
@@trixi1608 Yeah, agree. Or if you have the space in your house to put them into deeper storage so you don't have to feel the feelings when you look at them.
Wow, that is an excellent point. I totally relate, and I bet that is exactly what she is going through. And like, when you have great memories with an item, you don't want to take it off the shelf because you don't want to give up on the idea of being able to wear them again.
@@trixi1608 when your weight fluctuates often, you can be constantly growing out of or fitting back into clothes, so you want to keep everything because you never know when you “might” fit back into them. I’m not trying to justify Jaclyn’s overconsumption, but it can be a real psychological barrier for people to get rid of clothes

I honestly just grow more and more disgusted by rich peoples' closets and displays of wealth. like maybe you didn't need 100 pairs of sunglasses, maybe you could've redistributed that money to a mutual aid network. enjoy your pile of plastic tho i guess
@@KRfromthePaleozoic not really just because you have money it doesn’t mean you must “give back” and “donate”. People earn their money to spend on themselves and their goals. I feel like there’s clothing girls and then there’s makeup girls on TH-cam... with little overlap lmao. So when clothing girls do a makeup routine it’s like “idk I’m wearing this concealer and mascara I bought two years ago” and when makeup girls do closet tours it’s like “idk about this so I just buy brands”
One of my favourite pieces in my closet is this handmade cardigan my grandma passed on to me. Her sister in law made it for her in the 60’s and the tag says “for someone special” and I take it almost every trip I go on. I get compliments all the time on it.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate your philosophy about buying clothes The planet needs more "anti-materialism" and love for the things that one owns
I have an emotional attachment to my coach shoulder bag, it’s the first “luxury” piece I saved up for with my own money and it means a lot to me since handbags are my favorite accessory
Same! I love my Rebecca Minkoff bag to pieces. It was my first “luxury” bag I got for myself when I broke up with my first ex and the bag reminds me that for the first time in a long time that I got something nice for only myself.
i have a loewe hammock drawstring bag and it was pretty expensive but its the only one i use. i really like it a lot and i bought it as a special treat 🥰
The only thing I enjoyed about her closet tour is that she actually uses the clothes she buys and doesn’t just buy them to display them on a shelf like almost all closet tours I’ve seen. That being said, her style is definitely very basic and she only cares about brand names and designers products, not fashion as a whole. But at least she uses what she buys, so I respect her for that.
She probably only uses about 10/20% though, there's just too much stuff and not enough days in a year to wear them all.. ;-) She'd be better off narrowing her closet down to the pieces she truly wears.
I love the way you talk about clothing and fashion! So much respect for designers and pieces, it's so refreshing in a world of influencers who buy just to buy. Love your channel!
A shoe with studs story time! One time during college in Miami I went to a club in heels with spikes and got wasted. I proceeded to tell women their fortunes and sliced my leg open with one of the spikes and didn’t realize until someone pointed out I was trailing blood in the ladies bathroom. Moral of the story: don’t wear spiked heels if you’re going to get wasted. The more you know 🌈
I'd love to see you talk about Dita Von Teese! She did a house tour back in the summer and went through her massive shoe closet, and had some very unique pieces in there!!
27:20 this!! my most loved clothing items are things I've found in the attic or in my grandmothers basement that either she or my mom have knitted, or my grandmother bought years ago! they're both unique AND sentimental (often scandinavian design), and it's such a special experience styling and wearing them (especially mixing them with more modern styles)!
i wish i had enough money right now to invest in some nice pieces of clothing (like designer) but right now i'm investing $22 into a pair of straight leg jeans from target that i'm obsessed with lol
Don't feel bad, most of us can't afford the luxury items. Just wear those jeans as much as you can, recycle them/donate them when you are done with them, it's Ok.
As someone who sold luxury handbags at a department store, seeing all these expensive bags sitting out and not in their dust bags is making me *anxious*
They don’t need to be in dust bags, they just need to be looked after - dusted weekly, kept clean and kept out of direct sun light and free from moisture. If you can’t see your items, you’re far less likely to use them. The visual pleasure of seeing things like your handbag collection is an important part of enjoying your luxury goods.
When she referenced Clueless I think she ment having a totally already coordinated wardrobe, where you just pick from totally put together look. Even though in the movie she had a screen where she would scroll through pieces to see if they worked together, and the program would tell Cher if the pieces worked together or not, so it's not really exactly the same scenario 😅
That whole time she was taking about that python boy bag I was like girl don’t lie we both know you walked into Chanel and said “what’s the most expensive bag you have in the store right now” and bought it to show off, you don’t buy 15-20k bag because you decided in the store that you’ve been working really hard and deserve it, you buy it as a flex. Good for her she got her coin I just wish she’d stop trying to be so #relatable.
I love what you had to say about people saying they love fashion but only like owning clothes. So true! A lot of people have the means to purchase things that seem of style or of a brand but don’t know how to actually style an outfit
A bit disappointed ,especially in her shoes collection because there are way too many repetitive shoes except for that little section. It looks like she has multiple pairs(x2 / x3) of some of them. Her favourite ones are actually not that bad to be honest.
I feel the same about the jackets tbh. As someone who also has a jacket obsession a lot of them are super sentimental and I would love her to tell us the stories behind some of them.
I big thing about liking fashion is that that doesn't mean having a crazy amount of designer clothing; having fewer pieces that are tailored or that have a particular type of crafting, that had a type of structure that is unique... fashion is more than a piece of clothing with a tag next to it.
I 100% agree on the how clothing can hold memories , meaning , etc. My mom passed down to me one of her old Prada Milano handbags when I was 13 and I still have it and cherish it .
Jaclyn’s closet is nice. BUT her style is very, for lack of better words, new money😕 She’s the person who wears sweatshirts with designer logos type of new money😶 Edit: she does in fact have pictures of Audrey Hepburn and Miss Monroe in her house😂 Need I say more?😕😶
Well it's nice she made loads of money. It obviously doesn't always come with taste, but there is nothing to do.... These people will keep on piling up things that catch their fancy and fill their dressing....
New subscriber here! Loving your content!! I used to be a big fashion lover in my late teens, (pouring over Vogue, watching runway shows for not only big labels but emerging designers, thrifting) but in the last 10 years I’ve really lost my love for fashion and don’t think of myself as someone who is interested in that world anymore. And honestly, your videos have made me realise that it’s because of the rise of social media and influencer content - fashion became commercialised and about status symbols rather than buying something because it’s aesthetically pleasing or interesting. When I was in my late teens, my first job was in a store targeted at a more mature lady (I’m talking women 70 upwards). I didn’t have to wear the clothes but I ended up developing an eye for pieces that I could style differently or modify to make it feel fresh and different - a lot of the time I’d buy pieces from my work (or thrift stores) that I actually thought mimicked silhouettes, colours or fabrics I was seeing in those fashion shows more than what was in the high street. But the rise of fast fashion and label clout killed that interest for me. However, your channel has sparked that interest again (thank the TH-cam algorithm gods) and I might try to check out some shows next season. I’m also really interested in politics, history (my major in university) and I really appreciate your passion when talking about the history behind fashion houses, the personalities who created them, and the historical significance of trends. Keep up the great work! 💕
_"I could never own that many sunglasses..."_ Honestly, tho? I kind of need that drawer full of sunglasses so that I never have to take that treacherous journey to buy a new pair -- in which I develop premature wrinkles because I'm squinting from the accosting sunlight, all because I somehow LOSE EVERY SINGLE PAIR WITHIN MONTHS! I could never own any expensive sunglasses, tho. For obvious reasons.
I splurged on expensive sunglasses a few years ago, on the theory that if I was appalled by the price, I would take extra care to NOT lose them 😁 It seems to have worked - I had that pair for 4 years and (when I did ultimately lose them) have had the replacements for 4 years and counting.

Your outfit here kills her entire closet! Hah! Looks great. Very much agree with the comments made in this video. The "trying to be nicer...trying to be nicer...." made me LOL
I found out that this kid in one of my classes last year at college is the son of like the CEO of Hermès or something and let me tell you, he did not dress in any type of way that would lead you to believe that. Mans dressed like a goodwill clearance rack
The wealthy are not always obvious. The flashy displays of excess are usually done by those that came into it quickly and suddenly. The vulgar display of wealth is not attractive at all.
You would never know my mother in law is worth the amount she is, she comes from generational wealth but also built her career very successfully, she’s also now the heir to everything. She drives a Honda, dresses like any other person, doesn’t live in a big ol house, inside home is nice yet nothing over the top. I was in Vegas some years back, I bought her this beautiful Italian purse in a upscale Italian store (my husbands family are Italian on moms side, her parents from Italy). Was this beautiful bronzy brownish color purse that had this beautiful buckle. Gave it to her for her birthday, she liked it. A few weeks later a lady from work commented on the purse, saying how beautiful it was, was surprised to see her with a purse like that as she used run of mill kinds. Well few days later went to her home for Sunday family dinner and she gave me the purse back, all because it gave her 1 persons attention. I couldn’t believe it. So yeah, there are people who just aren’t into being flashy, dressing flashy, living flashy, are put off by it, put off by others who live like that.
Your videos really are great and I love your style. What we have in this instance is a person who buys loads of stuff - some expensive and some cheap - but doesn't have, well, style. My favorite closet tours were "All About Jaime" from Singapore and Huda, who both seem to know the importance of their pieces and how to style them. My all-time favorite closet tour was included in a British documentary about haute couture. The women featured in that documentary had great clothes, knew the designers and in one case had special tags on their clothes that listed when the clothing (namely evening gowns) were worn. They really took the time to show the clothes, the seams, etc.
I don’t understand Jaclyn Hill’s appeal. I’ve always thought she was pretty trashy and that her makeup is atrociously thick. Why do people look up to her for makeup tips?
The thing is people don’t really look to her for makeup tips. She isn’t really a popular Guru anymore and her makeup launches repeatedly fail because her products are hazardous. She was popular years ago when the ‘baddie’ makeup was in style, but her makeup and content is very dated. It’s reflected in her closet which is also dated and super 2010s.
Death, it's one of the biggest events that will ever take place in your life. We face death everyday, conscious or unconsciously of it; death lurks around every corner of our life. Like a lion waiting to catch its prey, death comes for us all in many shapes and form; seemingly there is no one who can escape from the jaws of death. But did you know there is a reason why we die? The idea of death you're familiar with is only the tip of the iceberg. See we die because we've sinned against God. Death according to the bible is wages " for the wages of sin is death " (Romans 6:23). Because man sinned against God, we live in a fallen world, it was once perfect, but now in ruins. Now that sin exists, God is coming to judge the world In righteousness. It's appointed a man once to die and after this judgement" (Hebrews 9:27) The standard he'll judge you by is the 10 commandments, God's moral law. He's so serious about sin that he gave anyone who sins the death sentence, the bible says you've earned it through sinning against God and each time you sin you build up his wrath. “The soul who sins shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4) The punishment is the eternal fires of Hell " Where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:42) You will have to face God on Judgement Day. Will you go to Heaven or Hell? Here’s a quick test: 1-You shall have no other gods before me. 2-You shall not make any idols. 3-You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 4-Remember the Sabbath Day. 5-Honor your father and mother. 6-You shall not murder. 7-You shall not commit adultery. 8-You shall not steal. 9-You shall not lie. 10-You shall not covet. Have you ever told a lie? stolen anything? used God’s name in vain? have you ever looked at anyone with lust? He sees lust as adultery, “Whoever looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”(Matthew 5:28) Have you ever hated someone? he sees hatred as murder, ”Anyone who hates another brother or sister is a murderer, (1 John 3:15) James 2:10 says, “the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.” Don't rely on your own goodness or good works to save you. That's like bribing God to let you into heaven; Nor a church, pastor, priest, or any religion. None of us are good at all, even murderers, rapists, even Hilter will call themselves Good and they'll try to justify themselves by their Good works. But the bible says: • "But we are all like an unclean thing, and all of our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like wind have taken us away." (Isaiah 64:6) God's definition of good is morally excellent and therefore he demands absolute pperfections. No one can ever match his standards. That's why Jesus said: • " No one is good except God alone." (Luke 18:19) If you have done any of those things, God sees you as guilty of breaking His law and the Bible warns that the guilty will end up in Hell. Will YOU be guilty on Judgement Day? "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23) God sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross. Jesus took the punishment upon Himself and defeated death on the cross; not because your Good but because God is rich in mercy. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Jesus rose from the dead and defeated death. Repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus and God will grant you everlasting life; you'll also be born again. He'll give you a new heart that desires righteousness, what is just and a heart that will love God. that is why Jesus said "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3) Then, Read the Bible and obey what you read. ☆ When Are You Going To Get Right With God? “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion“ (Hebrews 3:15) “Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2) • " Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) It's your choice. I'll leave you with this "What shall profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? " (Mark 8:36) If you're taking this seriously, Would you like a prayer? This prayer is not a guarantee that you'll be saved, that's between you and God. However, I'd like this to be a good start for your journey. "Father, I thank you for this person's open heart and ask that he/she would repent and trust alone in Jesus christ. I also ask that you guide their steps on their journey so that they would pass from death to life. In Jesus name amen. When you get alone before God and repent (turn from your sins) of your sins.
She doesn’t want to seem pope in comparison to her counterparts so she is pressured to be fashionable.

lots of celebrities have stylists even if they love fashion but she's so UNPASSIONATE about it all
You can enjoy looking at fashionable items but not know the slightest thing about styling them. Styling is more than just the clothing itself but about your body type and how the clothes can compliment your body. Fashion is also about knowing trends and other iconic things.

Don't feel bad, most of us can't afford the luxury items. Just wear those jeans as much as you can, recycle them/donate them when you are done with them, it's Ok.

Haute le Mode: K but can we see the clothes *in* the closet?

Most rich people I’ve met through business do tbh lmao
The rich are loud, the wealthy whisper.
They really took the time to show the clothes, the seams, etc.

the King is blessing us with content 😤😤😤 WE STAN!!
“The soul who sins shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4) The punishment is the eternal fires of Hell " Where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:42)
You will have to face God on Judgement Day.
Will you go to Heaven or Hell?
Here’s a quick test:
1-You shall have no other gods before me.
He sees lust as adultery, “Whoever looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”(Matthew 5:28) Have you ever hated someone? he sees hatred as murder, ”Anyone who hates another brother or sister is a murderer, (1 John 3:15)
James 2:10 says, “the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.”
Don't rely on your own goodness or good works to save you. That's like bribing God to let you into heaven; Nor a church, pastor, priest, or any religion. None of us are good at all, even murderers, rapists, even Hilter will call themselves Good and they'll try to justify themselves by their Good works. But the bible says:
• "But we are all like an unclean thing, and all of our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like wind have taken us away." (Isaiah 64:6)
God's definition of good is morally excellent and therefore he demands absolute pperfections. No one can ever match his standards. That's why Jesus said: • " No one is good except God alone." (Luke 18:19)
If you have done any of those things, God sees you as guilty of breaking His law and the Bible warns that the guilty will end up in Hell. Will YOU be guilty on Judgement Day?
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
God sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross. Jesus took the punishment upon Himself and defeated death on the cross; not because your Good but because God is rich in mercy.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus rose from the dead and defeated death. Repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus and God will grant you everlasting life; you'll also be born again.
He'll give you a new heart that desires righteousness, what is just and a heart that will love God.
that is why Jesus said "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
Then, Read the Bible and obey what you read.
☆ When Are You Going To Get Right With God?
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion“ (Hebrews 3:15) “Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
• " Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
It's your choice. I'll leave you with this "What shall profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? " (Mark 8:36)
If you're taking this seriously, Would you like a prayer? This prayer is not a guarantee that you'll be saved, that's between you and God. However, I'd like this to be a good start for your journey.
"Father, I thank you for this person's open heart and ask that he/she would repent and trust alone in Jesus christ. I also ask that you guide their steps on their journey so that they would pass from death to life. In Jesus name amen.
When you get alone before God and repent (turn from your sins) of your sins. Use Psalm 51 as a model to help you.

I’ve lived in Miami my whole life. Every beach trip for me and everyone I’ve seen there includes going in the cheapest, crappiest flip flops, making it from the car to the edge of the beach, getting sick of shoes slowing us down and taking them off, then shoving each other out of the way so we can put our feet in the tiny cool spot from the palm tree shadow until we find the ~perfect~ spot (aka til your arms are going to fall off from carrying your crap). Wedges at our beaches would result in a hospital trip from broken ankles 😬
me @ this closet tour: go girl, give us nothing!
I love your reactions, your face says it all. You're so honest and at the same time always trying to be respectful. I do respect that
