    Kameron Westcott is one of the Real Housewives of Dallas whose closet is full of pink. Normally, pink closets are stereotypical barbie and boring, but Westcott seems to have a deeper knowledge of fashion brands that stems not just the usual Fendi, Dior, & Chanel. With brands like Tom Ford & Christopher Kane filling up her wardrobe, and not just in shoes and bags, Westcott knows that household names and monograms are not the end-all and be-all of fashion. But with fast fashion and fur also entering her closets controversy is still abound!

    So for those that don’t watch the housewives franchises. Kameron was actually under fire this year for her and her family’s racially insensitive comments and bullying towards the Dallas franchises first Asian cast-member Dr. Tiffany Moon. Tiffany Moon has a great sense of style and we should highlight her rather than Kameron 🙈

Just because you spend more money on something doesn't necessarily mean it is made ethically of of better quality sometimes it onbly means a bigger profit margin. As an example of this : LVMH (the compagny under wich falls multiple designer houses such as Luis Vuitton ) is currently and i quote : "under judicial administration for a year after an investigation found two of its Chinese-owned subcontractors based outside Milan had exploited their workers. This followed a similar judgment in April against Giorgio Armani for “culpably failing” to oversee its suppliers, according to Reuters."

    The part about rich people bragging that they buy fast fashion is spot on. I'm not sure if you've heard of molly mae in the U.K., she was on love island and turned into this mega rich influencer basically off the back of the white British girls adoring her aesthetic and appearance, she’s now been made the “creative director”(🙄🙄🙄🙄) of pretty little thing. She heavily promotes and peddles these sweatshop clothes to her many followers and PLT customers, when she can afford to buy sustainable and fair. And apart from social media and PLT events it’s quite clear she doesn’t wear that crap in her everyday life, why would she when she can afford everything she wants? It’s so pathetic and she’s boosted sales for that company very dramatically. Recently went on a podcast to brag about her apparent hardwork and wealth and basically call herself better than everyone else too, gag.

    I think with fast fashion it’s important to emphasize not over consuming. The biggest issue with brands like Zara or h and m is that they drop new collections every week so people buy far behind their needs. So if she wants to buy a Zara skirt that’s fine as long as she doesn’t keep buying more and more and throwing things away. Because in the end the most environmentally friendly way to dress is with what you already have.

    • @MsSphinx91
      @MsSphinx91 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly. The garment industry is plagued with issues on the high and low end, so I don't like the idea of telling people they need to spend more money on clothes to be ethical. Over consumption is the one thing the consumer can control. Anything else is just putting your faith in the company to be ethical and sustainable in its practices, unless you personally observed the production process and facilities. At the end of the day, labor issues are the heart of the matter. Everyone, except for those at the top, is being over worked and under paid, so governments need to take action where possible.

I had no idea that Billie Eilish got ODL to drop fur. That's awesome. I have a lot of vintage fur which I rationalize that I've saved from the landfill. I also live in Minnesota and actually can wear fur more than once every three years....

    I wonder how much worse fast fashion really is in comparison to luxury fashion. Is there proof? I get that there are some ethically reasonable brands like Vivienne Westwood. But I would be positively surprised if that were the case with the majority.
    Luke, I always admire your impressive knowledge and your funny but well taught throught critiques. Keep going 🤗☺️😘

  • @kirakuroe

    I absolutely agree on the fast fashion commentary. On the other hand, I think richer people can shop clothes from ”lower” brands if they keep in mind the ethical side. But same goes for high fashion too! We can’t give a pass for a 5000$ jacket if it has the same issues as fast fashion, like dubious marerial origins, underpaid labor etc.

    I agree, if people can afford Chanel they shouldn’t be buying fast fashion…but they shouldn’t necessarily be buying certain luxury brands either. Chanel’s legacy is one of Nazi collaboration. Marc Jacobs and their ilk are profitting from cultural appropriation. And many luxury houses steal labor from their producers at many points along the supply chain. There is no transparency or accountability or sustainability anywhere in the fashion industry. That doesn’t mean we’re all evil for participating in it, but it’s important not to glorify luxury or assume that the price tag means we’re paying for ethics because it’s not true.

      Let's be clear about the FACTS and not your feelings. Chanel had an affair with a Nazi officer. She didn't care about politics ( maybe she should, as Germany invaded France ) but she wasn't a Nazi herself. She didn't collaborate with them, she just slept with one. And Chanel has been dead for decades so its in the past. Chanel the company must still be blamed when now its owned by other people ? Marc Jacobs did ONE collection where non black models wore braids. Some people still don't think that's wrong, as braids are worn by many cultures not just black people. And I agree, many fashion companies use cheap labor, including small labels, cheap brands, not just the luxury brands which are easy targets for criticism. Most of us don't have the time or money to find out what brands live up to some "moral" standard.

    Not sure if this is helpful at all, but in the South we refer to “fashion sneakers” as shoes that have similar shapes/styles to sneakers but aren’t built for walking/exercising. So they can be paired more easily with outfits that aren’t sweats/athleisure they’re dubbed “fashion” sneakers. A lot of them right now have prints like cheetah and snakeskin, faux leather, etc. to go with a certain aesthetic

It’s a moisture barrier but gas permeable so it can breath but won’t allow water in. Mainly used in construction, you’ll see it wrapped on houses to keep the wood dry before siding is put on

    @Thefashiongoddessnyc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    That was such a fun watch but fur really doesn't need to get a bad wrap when it's vintage or ethically sourced..this generation has forgotten these natural fibers are far more biodegradable then say faux fur which can't be recycled and wastes so much water to produce...silk, wool, and fur need to keep being used because they r all biodegradable materials..we just need to find ways to ethically produce it

    • @katybee3891

      Fur and leather aren’t biodegradable and good for the environment. In order to prevent the skin of dead animals from rotting, you have to use tons of toxic chemicals. The environmental impact of leather and fur production is worse than the impact of faux leather and fur.
      There’s nothing natural about that process, btw gerbers/tanners have always had a significantly lowered life expectancy because of their occupation.

    Luke, TX has 4 different climate zones. Some parts get colder than others. I'm in the Southeast part of the state. We don't really have a true winter. Most of the fall is mid-50s to 60s. In December and January it drops into the high 30s and low 40s. This year was different with the cold snap. Most of the year it is humid and warm.
    I haven't been to Dallas, but it is further north. I wouldn't be surprised if gets colder for longer.
