Not true -- she's a social media influencer and a socialite. What do you think that means? That said, it's true that she doesn't get to use them much nowadays because of the virus and the lockdown...
Same, same. I clean out my closet regularly. Although it's not super huge, I still feel I have way too much and am only wearing the same 30%/40% of clothes anyway..
For those who can't grasp just how humid Singapore is: It's 33 degrees Celsius right now (91 degrees Farenheit, which is actually a pretty low temperature for Singapore weather standards!) I am sitting down at the table in a relatively open-air area (so it is not suffocating in the least), and I am sweating just by sitting still. Humidity levels on non-rainy days average at about 70%+. We are suffering.
That's something that always bugs me, the people who actually have the money to invest in brands that care for the future prefer to invest in brands that are known and classic and high end.
I figured i’d jump in to elaborate on your comment to do with climate and storing bags. From where i’m sitting, i’d guess there’s absolutely some sort of climate control in that closet. Especially with the climate in singapore, storing that many leather handbags has you fighting against leather’s greatest enemy - humidity. Jamie is absolutely right that boxes suffocate the bags, and not just in the aesthetic sense but also in the literal sense. I have a friend who stored all her bags in boxes in her closet, many of which were only getting pulled once a year, and after leaving them for some time she returned after a particularly humid summer to find multiple pieces bubbling and deteriorating. It seemed like the issue was the stale humid air stuck inside the box. And the crazy part was this was happening on all sorts of kinds of leather, from predictably delicate lamb skin all the way up to safiano. She even had one LV coated canvas piece form bubbles. I still don’t fully understand how that happened or why, but I know it stopped when she moved into an dryer space and started storing them in their dust bags out of the boxes. I know this is super anecdotal, but just wanted to share and I figured someone might find it interesting.
I do find it very interesting indeed, thank you so much for sharing. I'd like to add that clothing and accessories can be very challenging to conserve since they are often made with many different materials - particularly, there's often metal pieces (zippers, buttons, metallic threads, beads, etc.) attached to the main body of the garment/accessory, which is usually either in natural fibers or animal skin. Metal and natural fibers are conserved at different temperature and humidity, so to properly store garments that have both can be hard. Not to forget all the bone/shell/wood decorations and other types of fabrics that have their own needs. Also, light exposure can do a LOT of damage - it can gravely affect colour and dry/burn certain materials.
Concur. I was in a ridiculous situation where I bought a LV pouch with rusted metal ware (it was a stud that I overlooked). Guess what LV replied me when I sent them an email few days later after the purchase? They reminded me that Singapore is an extremely humid country thus the oxidization. No other form of service recovery in that email. I refrain from buying anything from LV since. On a personal note, I need to use electric dehumidifying rods in my wardrove as I had mold growing on clothes before! Leather products are just tip of the iceberg!
I have a couple of bags that are not very precious but that are just old and lovely, and I was wondering whether they would do better stored in boxes. You just shared very useful info! Thank you :)
Jamie is one of the rare people that can afford to consecutively buy Birkins and Kellys each year. Patronage like that is rewarded with brands like Hermes, she will be one of the rare people that will be told that when a new type of Birkin like is for sale. To amass a collection that you need to consecutively buy directly from Hermes and become a regular
And that is why the resale market benefits these collectors. I guess because there are a tremendous number of bags in their hands and the are all tightly holding on to them, it keeps the prices elevated.
Apparently she rarely turns on the air conditioner and keeps her closet room cool by removing all windows. So no sunlight, heat rays can emit through the windows. All she does is to place dehumidifiers in the room and that's all it took to preserve the conditions of the bags.
That’s why Hermès is so exclusive and maintains brand equity so well. They never dilute the craftsmanship with trendy. Also, the special order “horse shoe” bags are when the client gets to be as creative as they want. It’s old school and I think it works
I really like how this lady is showing us her millions of dollars worth closet without showing OFF her millions of dollars worth closet. I enjoyed watching her closet tour and her knowledge about fashion, the designs/designers and the pieces that are special to her.
She has more Birkins in her closet than Hermès has in the store. Those skin bags (croc and alligator are MADE TO ORDER). Especially if there are diamonds on the hardware. Each bag that she has is on the custom end of the spectrum
@@takashimio Googled her and yeah she's pretty in a refreshing, down-to-earth way? Like she'd be that cool girl young people would love to hang out with

Also it’s Singapore, crime rate in singapore it’s super low lol (specially when u talk about murder) I think it was one of the safest countries in the planet? most likely she will never experience any robbery (or someone trying to murder her) I think she did that just as an extra precaution if some of her maids or a friend tried to you know take one bag or smthing
Loved this video Luke. It makes me realize I'm so nosy but JC did not disappoint ! One of the best closets (in terms of content) ever I think ;) However, around the 10:30 mark, I believe the little cube bags are Moynat. It's a super old french leather goods company which is super established and actually has some interesting designs. It's been gaining traction from the luxury youtubers lately because it's pretty exclusive and the history is there, so they love that.
You're right that Hermes is not fashion-forward. With their Birkins and Kellys, they aren't trying to be. Their art really begins with their dyes and colors, their seasonal colors, the vibrancy of their leather. The bag itself has not and will not ever change. It's meant to be a heritage piece. So I agree with what you're saying. I think people "want" something out of Hermes that they just aren't going to get.
I, too, like how she can actually speak on the clothes she purchases and buys interesting pieces, not just monogram this and monogram that. It makes her come off as a person who isnt into flaunting their wealth in your face by wearing luxury brand monogram everything from head to toe.
Its so fun to see you so excited about this closet tour, I can feel ur passion for fashion and I understand why u bashTrisha's or Jeffree's taste. When you collect things because you truly love them VS collecting things because you have to have it is so different. Bravo!

you should look into the history of birkins! i think it'd be a really interesting video, especially for a "younger" audience who might not know why they're so expensive and why they have waitlists
i’m sorry but my poor ass thinks that birkins are kinda ugly, they look nothing special to me, i’d think for that kind of money it wouldn’t look so... basic??
@Sarah Kim I can totally get behind functional. Hell, I'm not at all a bag person, so the one bag I have is functional before anything else. I can even see how the birkin would be a nice bag to use for everyday life. You're 100% right that it doesn't trabslate well as a statement piece. If I didn't know the "value" of those bags, having them all lined up in different colours and sizes, just seems like the world's most uninspiring bag store. The fact that these retail for tens of thousands of dollars honestly kind of makes me sick. The cost of the labour and materials involved none withstanding. I'm with Luke on this one. Where's the variety, the creativity, the innovation??
I feel the same but I think the birkin is more for like day to day for rich people ofcourse but if someone wanted tos who off with it I wouldnt be stunned. Also many think of them as an investment so yeah why not
The thing about birkins is when i first heard about them like 5-6 years they were so exclusive you had to like apply/pay to be ON a wait list to BUY these bags, now, every where you turn people are popping up w like 20birkins in a session
I just moved here in Singapore, and everywhere I look there’s someone carrying a luxury brand. Not everyone of course, but there’s not a day I go out without seeing a Chanel bag. Especially when I go to Orchard 😅
I LOVEEEE when you pour your knowledge onto these people’s collection, that you know, they probably don’t know about anyway lol (JC does know the stories behind some of her pieces though, so, respect ♥️)
I was wondering if you could do a fashion review for the lead female character of the Kdrama It’s Okay Not To Be Okay, like you did for Emily In Paris? I promise you won’t be disappointed
The value of the Birkin actually increased by 13% in 2019 and luxury bags were more popular than art pieces as investment pieces go 🙂 just read an article about it the other day
They're not investment pieces lol. Purse fanatics have spread that lie to make themselves feel better about wasting so much money. A Birkin bag loses 20% of its value the second it leaves the store, and devalues fractionally the more you use it, and the longer you have it. It is pretty much impossible to break even on a Birkin, much less make money if you have to sell it; you're going to be LOSING money. Which is literally the opposite of an investment.
@@Nocturne22 Think it's probably too late now to buy now in order to make money off it. Jamie started collecting 20 years ago and, given the inflation rate over the past decade or so and the rise of the ultra rich middle class, I'm not surprised that her bags are worth more than when she bought them.

Your comments about how you would take your hypothetical Birkin everywhere with you until it was busted.... Reminds me of the papparazi shots of Mary-Kate Olsen carrying a Birkin that looked like it was run over by a truck. So beat up. Goals, honestly.
I was gifted a small leather Coach bag (not even close obvi, but for me it is still expensive af) and to me it looked way better once it was beaten in a bit. It looked less like a model and something I have to be styled all over like for a photoshoot in order to pull it off, and more like something I can just pull on casually.
I love her so much! She just uploaded a video of herself making fried rice😂😂😂 she is NOT a cook but it was very entertaining. She’s a such a fashion icon.
Omggggg yess. I know that she’s a billionaire’s daughter but can somebody else add more on what she does etc? I love that woman’s style so much ❤️❤️ she does high end brands but not afraid to add more affordable pieces into her ensemble as well (which some rich people don’t wanna do sometimes lol)
Love it when speak about a bag and show the arrow of which specific bag you’re talking about, because I have no idea otherwise. Please continue with that arrow feauture.
LOVE the displays on the end caps of her pull-outs; great way to show a special item or outfit off in a classy way, and it can be a great way to show that like items lie within
I wonder if Hermes bags will end up as a very expensive version of Beanie Babies where people think they have value but then the bubble crashes. I really enjoy your take on designer. It’s not just about clout for you. It’s very evident in your critique. I’m really excited to watch what you contribute to the world of fashion.
I'm studying to become a fabric conservator for historical garments! I know that for bags (even ones from the 70s) storing them in dark, dry places are best. It's not just light but the humidity that can really damage a bag. Storing antique ones especially need care, but they can be wrapped in acid-free tissue paper or a cotton pillow case.

Hehehehe... it’s awfully humid out there. Such a stunning place to live though.
Don't like the idea of exotic skin bags, in my eyes the more money you have the better your ability to buy more ethically
if only !!!!
and all these furs and diamonds... she probably does't care
But do you wanna be ethical
That's something that always bugs me, the people who actually have the money to invest in brands that care for the future prefer to invest in brands that are known and classic and high end.
Not everybody cares about it lol. As long is not exotic skin I personally couldn't care less, people are eating meat everyday anyways.
YESSS FINALLY WHAT WE'VE WAITING FOR!!! Next up a vintage haul plzz
I stan Heart Evangelista and Jamie Chua. I learn a lot about fashion from them and other various other sources
Her daughter has an insane clothing, bag, and shoe collection too. I think her daughter name is called Calista
And she is so pretty too
yesss I love her daughter's style they're very different
She also has yt channel
@@takashimio Googled her and yeah she's pretty in a refreshing, down-to-earth way? Like she'd be that cool girl young people would love to hang out with
@@dalgona4819 yup! Go to her channel! I love her smile it’s cute 🥰
I adore her. Her knowledge how she understands things and her personal likes and preference and the construction and make. Also how she understands and talks about things but comes across like a kind friend not like many others who do closet tours and seem haughty. She like your older best friend. That and her variety in what she likes but this lovely collection she has just screams her.
ok not directly related to this video but I really appreciate your channel because, although I'm not super knowledgeable on more luxury brands, it's helping me learn a lot more about the haute couture fashion industry! I'm gonna have to look more into the history behind brands I like haha
I really enjoy when you stop for a seemingly random screenshot to then name all the wonderful bags we wouldn't have noticed as they are not commented by the presenter (Jamie in this case). I mean we all know this.. but I must reiterate, your knowledge is so admirable!
GIRL.... NeVER /use a finger tip lock..... imagine getting robbed and they cut your finger to acess all your money ...
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL her ... change it girl. keep your finger safe.
omfg this is so scary now that i think about it
That's literally the first thing i think about when i see fingerprint locks 😭
What about retina scan lol. Imagine robbers snatching your eye out, like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, to scan 😬
It doesn’t work if the finger doesn’t have a heart beat.
Also it’s Singapore, crime rate in singapore it’s super low lol (specially when u talk about murder) I think it was one of the safest countries in the planet? most likely she will never experience any robbery (or someone trying to murder her) I think she did that just as an extra precaution if some of her maids or a friend tried to you know take one bag or smthing
the pearl bag at 5:50 is a rosantica sasha pearl and crystal embellished clutch bag in case anyone was as curious as me! it’s roughly $1,500
A lot of time the head to toe monogram look doesn’t even look good, especially when they just throw on random brands.
Its so fun to see you so excited about this closet tour, I can feel ur passion for fashion and I understand why u bashTrisha's or Jeffree's taste. When you collect things because you truly love them VS collecting things because you have to have it is so different. Bravo!
I would love to discuss her jewellery collection, I know for a fact that the Cartier Jaguar Bracelet alone is a $10k-25k piece. (I'm a fine Jewellery maniac.)
I know right! I'd love to have a close look at her royal blue sapphire and emerald rings at @37:54. I'm a sucker for coloured gemstones
Costs more than 25k love.
@@yannetan Yes, I realised my blunder after I posted, need to add another decimal point onto that.
Rich R she showed the emerald and sapphire rings in her recent jewelry collection video! So obsessed!

LUKE YOU NEED TO DO AN OUTFIT REVIEW OF SEO YEJI'S STYLE FROM K-drama "It's Okay not to be okay"...there are Peter Do pieces, Loewe pieces, Alexander McQueen, Aquazurra, FENDI (Silvia's pieces), Zimmerman, Gianvito Rossis, Magda Butrym and lots more
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING. I LOVED HER STYLE ON THE SHOW
FINALLY, I personally have been waiting for your reaction to her ever since you did one to miss heart. werk.
my biggest letdown is the lack of perfume collections in closet tours. i need to see peoples summer and winter choices. the little glimps of her sample collection of Les Saisons
de Chanel made me happy, i had gardenia and it was beautiful.
Jamie Chua is such a lady and she's one of my favorites! Thank you for this reaction video and I hope you can make a reaction to my ultimate favorite, Jaime Xie's collection videos!
thank you for the closet tour we've all been waiting for 😍
you should look into the history of birkins! i think it'd be a really interesting video, especially for a "younger" audience who might not know why they're so expensive and why they have waitlists
I never feel jealous at Jamie’s susccess. I’m happy for her.
I envy her but I am also happy for her. I love fashion and people like her help me love it even more and remind me of why I love it so much.
i’m sorry but my poor ass thinks that birkins are kinda ugly, they look nothing special to me, i’d think for that kind of money it wouldn’t look so... basic??
Yeah, no. Fucking same. I mean they're not agregious or anything, but I couldn't think of a more basic design
yeah it's kinda basic. it also doesn't help that a lot of brands (even non-brands) handbags try to copy its design.
Where's the variety, the creativity, the innovation??
people see it as an investment I think? I can't relate
I feel the same but I think the birkin is more for like day to day for rich people ofcourse but if someone wanted tos who off with it I wouldnt be stunned. Also many think of them as an investment so yeah why not
The thing about birkins is when i first heard about them like 5-6 years they were so exclusive you had to like apply/pay to be ON a wait list to BUY these bags, now, every where you turn people are popping up w like 20birkins in a session
i think the closet is temperature controlled.... and it's in singapore. aircon is always on 24/7 in singapore hahahaha
I just moved here in Singapore, and everywhere I look there’s someone carrying a luxury brand. Not everyone of course, but there’s not a day I go out without seeing a Chanel bag. Especially when I go to Orchard 😅
Yea, people all around south-east asia go to singapore to shop. Especially the rich people with a lot of money to buy plane tickets every 3 months
Statistically speaking, some of them have to be dupes
Jamie is actually so cute in her blogs especially when she’s traveling with her boyfriend because their chemistry is just 😙👌🏽
I LOVEEEE when you pour your knowledge onto these people’s collection, that you know, they probably don’t know about anyway lol (JC does know the stories behind some of her pieces though, so, respect ♥️)
I love Jamie, she’s such a sweetheart and her travel vlogs and shopping trips are so fun
Now we know who buys that Dior feminist t-shirt lol
I was wondering if you could do a fashion review for the lead female character of the Kdrama It’s Okay Not To Be Okay, like you did for Emily In Paris? I promise you won’t be disappointed
Now I need to watch the show
The value of the Birkin actually increased by 13% in 2019 and luxury bags were more popular than art pieces as investment pieces go 🙂 just read an article about it the other day
They're not investment pieces lol.
I really love her. She’s so easy going and her personality is just humble and I love that
OMG! The finger scanner to open her closet!!! I don't ever have a door to open my closet the door broke so I removed it! Wow talk about being on the other side of the spectrum! Thank you Luke for this video it was a lot of fun to watch! Take care! 😉💖
I love the shape of the birkin as it was meant to be, a travel bag. The lock system makes it difficult for anyone to try and steal things inside.
We need a Jaime Xie's hauls reaction!
YEEESSSS!!!!!
True been watching Jaime's YT channel for long time now 😍😘👏👌
Yaasssss. I've been commenting this too
I looovve watching her.
but I think you’re my new favorite channel to watch now. I’m definitely starting my binge
the way I’ve been waiting for you to react to her for so long…I can’t wait!
This commentary is like so academic and so frivolous at the same time, here 👏🏽 for 👏🏽 it 👏🏽
I was just about to sleep but then I got the notification.... sleep can wait 😂
Love it when speak about a bag and show the arrow of which specific bag you’re talking about, because I have no idea otherwise. Please continue with that arrow feauture.
Would love to see you do a review of Carrie Bradshaw's style from Sex and The City.
Sure there are some like the Himalayan one that will always be coveted but the less exclusive ones will not hold as much value. I guess it is like every market, even housing isn't foolproof as we've seen.
Birkin have been coveted for decades now so I'm not sure when the bubble will burst.
SmokeyGlow brought me here! I'm not a fashion girl but I'm really loving your content. Thanks for making "intimidating" content fun and enjoyable watch. You've taught a frequent Old Navy shopper what a Himalayan Birkin bag is :)
Laughed when you said she cleaned before because no ones closet looks like that... She must have staff that keeps the closet the way she wants it and dusts/cleans all those accessories
No, not true. Maybe she got some help but she's very hands on when it comes to cleaning her items.
I wouldn't trust any staff in that closet lol
Wow😱 Your knowledge in fashion history is just beyond me. I'm learning something from your vlog besides salivating on those beautiful pieces👛👜🛍
Jamie Chua is what I aspired to be when I'm her age, fabulous and classy.
Nothing I love more than Luke freaking out over closet architecture. I makes me so happy😂😂😂😂
Very good commentary, keep it up!
FINALLY! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY
Obviously I'm not super wealthy but it seems a bit wasteful to buy and store a bunch of Chanel jackets you're never going to wear.
it’s absolutely wasteful haha. wealth is wasteful :/
I think you misinterpreted what she said. She meant that it was hard to shop for channel jackets because a lot of their designs age you so when she does buy one she has to really careful it doesn't do that.
@@darkchurchhill That's entirely possible!
@@TrueImmortality She actually said that about the Dior suits as well when she was shopping in the Dior Paris shop lol
Oh she wear all her jackets everyday girl. Trust me
JAMIE XIE NEXT please!
FINALLY! Been waiting for this reaction video to happen for a year :)
You should react to her jewellery box collection she recently did, it’s iconic.
I really enjoy your take on designer. It’s not just about clout for you. It’s very evident in your critique. I’m really excited to watch what you contribute to the world of fashion.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE YESSSS
this channel is now just a massive Jamie Chua fan club
I'm studying to become a fabric conservator for historical garments! I know that for bags (even ones from the 70s) storing them in dark, dry places are best. It's not just light but the humidity that can really damage a bag. Storing antique ones especially need care, but they can be wrapped in acid-free tissue paper or a cotton pillow case.
The best thing about her closet is your enthusiasm for it!

Watching your reactions was as interesting as watching the closet items. Finding your channel has given me a needed break from the hackles drama. Thank you
I was binge-watching your history fashion videos (I mean, the Louis Vuitton/Alexander McQueen type) until I saw this. 🥰
Wow, I thought I knew a lot about fashion (which I do, and a lot I owe to jamie’s youtube channel), but omg you are like a textbook on fashion. I aspire to know fashion as well as you do someday.
I love that she showed her jeans and t-shirts. Even though she is a level of rich I'll never see, made her feel more relatable to me knowing she too owns jeans like a normal person.
