      @@rohandas5987 I second this.
      I'd much rather see VG-10 or N690 for a fairly inexpensive blade steel choice.
      Would really like to see S30V or S35VN blade steel and carbon fiber scales.
      As is, it's a great looking knife.

    Great review on the CEO. CRKT just came out with a flipper version ( 2021) with 'tip up' carry and a redesigned clip. New blade steel ,from I understand (according to CRKT), AUS 8 steel. The newer version is without a thumbstud which looks more steamlined. Love your videos for your honest opinions, but, I don't know what I enjoy more....your assessments on the knives or your 'one-liners' you come up with....thanks for the great videos 😉

  • @slick_slicers

    Reminds me of the Böker Plus Wasabi. The Wasabi is a friction folder and a mite shorter, so legal for us in the UK to carry. It also has the advantage of being a front flipper, so ambidextrous, and it’s available in G10, cocobolo or carbon fibre, but is also tip down only. It’s also my most watched knife video.

  • @biteme263
    @biteme263 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just bought one and have been playing with it for an hour or so. In general I like it. It is light, slim and looks nice. I got it for a "dress" knife. As in something that looks a bit more elegant when I am wearing nice clothes or in a situation where I don't want some crazy tactical looking thing. It also very comfortable in my pocket. Lets be honest, its a pen knife. Its for opening letters, a box now and then or other light duty things. It isn't a fighting knife, carving knife or utility work knife. I like the longer blade though personally. I was worried it would be shorter and I am glad it wasn't.
    I don't like how it opens nor do I like the lock though. Opening is a bit stiff, hopefully that will wear in? And like you commented closing it is a bit of a pain, especially with one hand. It would be a simple fix really by removing some of the handle or adding a slight hump to the liner so you have something push on. I love the simplicity of it though. I took it apart to see how it worked and was impressed. No springs to fail, it has actual bearings and is a simple design. I was impressed for 40 bucks honestly. My last knife was a benchmade that cost several times more and it failed! Both the springs for the Axis lock broke in less than 2 years. And that was like a 160 dollar knife. Not impressed, at all. If they fixed the liner lock to be easier to use I would absolutely love this knife. Will it be the best knife I have ever owned? Probably not, but it was 40 bucks. I can tell you right now though after an hour so I can tell its better than some I have owned for considerably more money. I am not overly concerned about the type of steel as long as it doesn't rust. I am sure it won't be hard to touch up the edge now and then when it needs it.

  • @sputumtube
    @sputumtube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    It's clearly a light-use/occasional carry knife and definately not for anything more. 8Cr13MoV is fine for this application and keeps the price reasonable. And the light weight means it could be carried in a jacket pocket without the clip. I like it very much...

    • @biteme263
      @biteme263 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep I agree. Like I said in my post, this isn't a tactical knife, it isn't a fighting knife, a woodworking knife or a utility knife for someone with a "real" job that would abuse it. Its a light duty pocket knife for doing simple things.

    The Real Steel G5 Metamorph with blue G10 scales from Indiana Knives and a N690 blade, tip down carry is a much better alternative. While it takes time to get used to the front opening mechanism, there is no flipper tab to get in the way, either when in the pocket or in use.

    Buying this as a car knife. Something I can use to cut food and eat with, open the odd package, cut labels off, remove threads from clothing and anything else when on the road.
    Small enough to stash away and not take up a lot of space and slim enough to not draw any attention for LE or if I use it to eat when in public view as it kind of just looks like a steak knife.

    I think we should understand the concept here. This is a pen knife designed for carry in shirt or breast pockets. That's why we see the pen-like form factor and tip-down carry. That's great. As Nick noted, billboarding the clip diminishes the value. So too does using 8Cr13Mov at this price. I'd love to see something like this in better steel from Ruike, Civivi, etc. I'd also like to see it with a flipper tab.

    I know you don’t like clone knives, and I don’t like that they use Axis Lock rip-off, but they are not tac-force quality at all or even close to it, they do not make sharpened plastic stick knives.

    A little bit over 3 inches, perfect, so it's not legal in some places because of that, but doesn't have the extra length to justify going over three in the first place...
    These companies have gotta knock this stuff off. Knife laws suck, but cmon man, you gotta design around em unfortunately.

    • @DieYuppieScum91
      @DieYuppieScum91 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For the overwhelming majority of the country, there aren't 3" blade laws. Delaware, Rhode Island, and a few specific municipalities are the only ones with such regulations. Yeah, this particular knife probably should've stopped at 3" given its nature, but not every knife needs to be designed around the minority.

    Can someone please explain to me why everyone hates tip down?
    I prefer tip up because most of the folders I own are that way, so I'm just used to it. But I never knocked a knife for being tip down only either. You can still pull it out in a ready to open position either way. I'm just not seeing why it's a huge deal to a lot of people. I'm interested to know why.

    • @ponchowizard5182

      @@EricTamez I've honestly never had a knife open on accident (I wouldn't really trust a knife that could regardless.) But I can see what you're getting at. And thinking more about it, depending on the blade material I wouldn't want my hand rubbing on it everytime I reach in my pocket, getting my skin oils on it. I'd have to wipe it down twice as often.

    • @ibanez7412
      @ibanez7412 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer tip down, that way you don't have to turn the knife to open the blade. Your thumb is already near the thumb stud or your index finger is already near the flipper tab...depends on the knife. Same goes for a front flipper.
      I have never had a knife open on its own in my pocket, I am glad. I think my knives have a good enough detend to keep this from happening. Or I am lucky I guess...

    Just got my CEO today. Me, 65 years old RA in my right hand to where I cannot even make a closed fist. I have about 20 knives in my meager collection. 1) The knife needs 2-10 complete action cycles to dramatically loosen up. Lock up is about 50% on day one. That`s ok. Centering is off a little but the left side liner lock is naturally bowed, so that`s ok too. Adjust the pivot screw if necessary. 2) Opening is not quite as bad as people voice, however CLOSING the knife IS more difficult (for me), as the liner is BELOW the handle surface, you just need a thumbnail, skin is to soft. 3) CEO IS NOT a defensive knife, get that out of your head. You will get in more trouble pulling this relative toothpick. 4) The knife is what it is, nothing more. For me there is some OVER HYPE on this model. It IS a front pocket light duty knife for packages, string, eating. And not much more. As a TOP FRONT POCKET tool, it`s fine. 5) Would I buy it again (pd. 33.99 and tax), maybe. Maybe not. There is stiff competition among the manufacturers. All in all the knife stands out for being unique. 6) Should you buy one? Only if you crave a top pocket pen knife. Good luck and cheers mates! p.s. I have 2 other CRKT thumb flick knives, this one of the 3 is actually the easiest to open. Light pressure at the CORRECT ANGLE opens it nicely, although having just got it I`m still slow and cautious. I`m not at the "rockets out" blade opening stage yet. Practice will get you there good enough to match the CEO design. Good build quality at price point. A typical 4 Star out of 5 Star rating is about right, IMHO. Be more careful when handling this particular knife! Take your time with it and just ENJOY the CEO top pocket knife tool.

    I just bought the UK version (nail nick, detent, 3" blade). Very attractive, but the UK changes add little and cost plenty. IKBS on a nail-nick/detent knife, really?! The clip is a bit hefty too. All in all, I think I prefer the Böker Plus Wasabi, which has both carbon fibre and wood handle options as well as G10 and a beautiful clip.

    I ordered one of these as soon as it was released, and after watching this I can GUARANTEE this is the absolute best possible QC knife from that factory. The one i received was like something you win out of a claw machine. The action was horrendous, the fit and finish was embarrassing, it just had a convenience store kind of quality to it, you could hardly deploy the blade with one hand. Maybe I got a fake, if that's even a thing with budget knives? I was really excited about this knife when I saw it, but that quickly changed once I had it in hand. Anybody else have the same experience?
