    As a Wave Race 64 speedrunner, I can say there is likely some small remastering done to the overall feel and play of the Shindou version of the game that makes it play better than the original 1.0 JP and US versions. All of the top IL players use the Shindou version and it is the best version for RTA as you pointed out the load time differences in your video. I appreciate the spotlight on these two awesome games and the very well made video SSFF :)

    • @joshshrum2764
      @joshshrum2764 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So basically your saying Waverace 64 Shindou, is the better version between the two, and Mario 64 Shindou, is worse mainly for speedrunners so all round being worse overall despite the rumbling helping you not get cramped up which would help speedrunning ironically.

    I use an N64 controller with a USB adapter, and I keep the rumble pack inserted even though my adapter does not support the rumble pak because I prefer the additional weight.
    I am weird.

    • @TheMGMfan
      @TheMGMfan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dimensiom I honestly don’t mind the extra weight myself; in fact, because I only put it in for games that support it (which I started doing because of my suspicion that it drained the batteries anyway), it’s kinda jarring when I use an N64 controller without a rumble pak inserted after I used it with it.

    While Shindou's legacy in Mario 64 speedrunning is dead it lives on in the modern Wave Race 64 speedrunning community, the Shindou version is the fastest legal version for championship speedruns and also the most popular in the time trial community due to the ghost and improved handling of console slowdown/shorter load times.

    the version of mario64 included in Super mario 3d all stars is based on the shindo version in all regians. this marks the first time that version was given a western release. wave race 64 shindo version wasn't so lucky, though.

    I had a 3rd party rumble pack that had an extra slot to use both memory card and rumble. Takes the same amount of battery a too. Sure it weighed heavier than the normal rumble pack, but did come with rumble intensity too. (back when the high setting still worked) will vibrate the controller to the point that little me couldn't hold on to it without it my hand going numb due to the vibration.
    And JFYI. Yes I did attach another rumble to it and yes it was freaking heavy for a little kid and it did work. Broke the battery cover on the 1st party rumble pack and was ungodly heavy for a little kid to hold it without resting on a table to play after picking it up for a few minutes.

    I miss the N64 rumble pak. It's rumble was so absurdly over the top. THAT'S what I like. Goldeneye felt like the controller might fly out of your hands. Subtlety is for suckers. Give me rumble that might put someone's eye out and then scale it back just a hair.

    Hey SSFF, awesome video man! I had very little idea of how the Rumble Pak was used in the Mario 64 Shindou edition, and I was always interested! But I have a question, where did you get that awesome Smash T shirt? If you know, could you send a link perhaps please?

    8:33 "China's legendary bootleg" is a weak statement kind of. The bootlegging capabilities of china are incredible to this day, they can imitate any electronic device.
