  • Craft this merchant tent for your next tabletop gaming session full of custom fun details. This tent makes use of the merchant tables from last weeks video to construct a fully modular set piece that allows you to modify what's being sold and even the awning covering the booths depending on the setting of your game!

    I love the way this turned out! One of the most rewarding parts about being a patreon of yours is the interaction you give throughout the week on your discord. It was really cool to see you use a tip that one of us gave you in the build. Almost gives me the nostalgia of building terrain with my brothers back in that day. Thanks for another amazing build John. Keep up the great work!

    the nicest thing about these modular builds is how they allow pieces of the miniature have more use on the table than what the piece was originally part of.
    Example: if you want a merchant centre in a city, instead of one with a grassy/earthy base, you make one with stones!
    Another fun detail you can do is if the place was ruined/ransacked/besieged. You can replace the flags with tattered/burned/torn ones, or even remove them entirely.
    Fantastic work, as always :)
    Personally, I would make the decoration be optional in my set to make it easier to use in different scenarios, and also have as much space without clutter. Although, those set pieces do in fact bring a lot of life to the piece.

    I apologize if my words will look ridiculous. I don't know English well and I use a translator. I have been following your work for a long time. It's very inspiring. Thank you for that. I also try myself in this. once I ran into the same problem as you. A small part burst when I pierced it with a toothpick. For myself, I solved the problem so that there is no need to put pressure on the part when you insert a toothpick into it. It is better when you rotate a toothpick, something like a drill. In this case, the small part does not break.

    That is an awesome project! I like your artistic eye. One thought about the caulking...I have accidentally used the non-paintable variety doing projects before, and that was a problem. I recommend using paintable caulk. Using a bit of stop fray on the fabric edges will help keep it from unravelling.

    This is excellent! The quality of your build goes without saying, but I have to tell you I really like the concept of a single item market. On most wargames tables, the market is a series of single item tables scattered over a portion of the table. Not bad as far as it goes, but this all-in-one piece gives the busy feel of a market without tying up more space that could be used for gaming. Well done!

    Using the tea leaves in your ground cover because of the scent is inspired, dude. Exotic scents are archetypal marketplace sensations that will delight everyone. It seems like it would have added value for visually impaired players. What do you think of the idea of adding traces of powdered allspice or cassia to the tea leaves? Keeping the spices from overpowering the tea would take a delicate touch, but doesn't seem difficult.

    Wow....now this was something else!
    Have you made a amphitheater yet, or a stage area, for plays or music? Would fit in nicely with this and maybe more merchant tents. Add some wagons and it will look more or less like Darkmoon Faire-if you have been there.
    I think if you add a small Exciter speaker(1"-2") like the ones Dayton makes, you could have music emitting from the stage. It works on XPS sheets(I tried last weekend, it's actually amazing), maybe on small XPS buildings as well? It should work to some degree on everything, but it does work best on XPS. Maybe add an Exciter to your arena, and have arena noises and crowd cheers from the arena. Thing is, the sound will come right from the arena, on the table, not somewhere from speakers; that makes it quit immersive.

    With the pillars, one thing I would suggest is to swap the Q-Tip and sculpted top for some of the fabric pins that already have the ball top. The end result would be, largely, the same, but a lot less work and it tends to work better than the sculpting tool for going into foam.
    Also, where did you get the dove from?

    How about small wooden skewers instead of Q-tips?

    Another fantastic piece of artwork! Can see a mediaeval shopping bazaar coming up. Q: Do you research images to come up with a design for the build or just wing it?

      Thank you Marcus. Research always helps to try and nail down a look or feel. I wanted to make sure I had the awning somewhat close with the fabric and shape.

    why do those pillars have to be pierced with qtips? i'm curious why you didn't use toothpicks. it looks so beautiful!

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question…. I wanted a bit more strength in the pillar and I also wanted the diameter of the post sticking out of the top a bit larger than a toothpick. Thanks!

    Have you ever tried using small drill bits to create your holes in the foam? If so does it not work?

    what am I doing wrong? The matte finish melts my foam...........

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that will happen if you’re spraying too close to the foam. It’ll bubble the paint and can melt foam. You want to be about 18” away from the foam when you’re spraying and let it “mist” over your project. If the foam looks slick and wet after spraying… problems are coming.
