When the alpha wolf barrels work they're cool. Too bad they do most of them with an un polished feed ramp at a steep angle. I've had to ship back two barrels
@@AlaskanBallistics I've purchased a couple of Double Diamond 40S&W conversion to 9mm barrels from the Glock store and they've worked flawless. I've also got several G40 KKM TB and 1 KKM G20 TB of which they've also worked flawless. With some of the Korean/Chinese brand barrels, the quality seems to be hit and miss. The KKM barrels seem to be very consistently close fit tolerances, high quality fit and finish. In addition, the bores are very smooth with crisp sharp cut rifling, tight SAAMI dimensioned chambers and they come with near mirror polish feed ramps. If I was purchasing an aftermarket barrel and I was using the gun to protect myself/loved ones from whatever, I for sure would spend a little extra and get a KKM barrel, otherwise all the other barrels are probably fine (usually).

I don’t know. After watching Chuke’s review in the Gen5, I’m holding off on buying this. I have a Gen3 and love it. I think I’d rather get the gen4 model 40 (long slide ). At least they eat everything.
@@AlaskanBallistics Yeah I have some blue box PPU FMJ’s I’ve had for about 7-8 years. I shot it out of my Gen3 and thought I was shooting a 380. Lol. It was weak stuff. I can see how the G40 with the heavier slide might have issue with that load.
I have a gen 3 g23 that would shoot fine, but when I would rack it sometimes it would not slide back into full battery. A little oil on the plastic guide rod solved the problem
Still holding on to my Gen 4. When all the variables are worked out and every one is shooting their Gen 5's consistently without issues then and only then would I consider buying one. Give it about a year.
@@AlaskanBallistics something i like about the 4 over the 5 to be honest. they are all reliable. only thing is get mos version if you want an optic. otherwise you can't really make a mistake getting a glock at all.
I love some 10 mm.I didn't know Glock had the 20 out in a Gen 5 version.I do like my 20SF,,& I don't plan on parting with it.I would like to give the M&P 10 mm a try.
I just got the G20 gen 5 a couple days ago. Havent even shot it yet and never had a 10mm, only 9mm. Hopefully they release some longer gen 5 barrels for 10mm. Seems like there is a lot of options for 10mm loaded at different velocities and vastly different energies. The hotter rounds with 600-700 fpe look great for self defense and out in the woods Edit: Ive shot it 4 times now (about 300 rounds) without any issues (4 kinds of hollow points, 220gr hard cast, 3 kinds of fmj) and its a little more fun to shoot than 9mm.
I've got many demonstrations of those types of rounds on the channel. 6" kkm barrel will stretch that energy into 750 to 850 ft lbs depending on the load.
@Alaskan Ballistics thanks. I plan on getting a 6 or 9 inch barrel when they release it for gen 5. There aren't any bears in my part of the state, but when I go to the mountains, swamp , or beach areas that have black bears, I would prefer the longer barrel. I just put a holosun on my G20 too
The velocities i get with the 9" aren't usually worth the extra length over my 6.5" kkm barrel in the g40. Check out my glock 29 vs 20 vs 40 playlist. All of the videos from the last 2 years have the 6.5" and 9" barrels th-cam.com/play/PLgyCOrlBEzeA39nNkZzQ3AODCF9KCVPVU.html
I’m looking at getting a G20 but not 100% decided on which gen just yet. Found a really nice hardly used gen 3 NON SF with the nice (best IMO) frying pan slide coating that I’m considering buying but the grip is pretty big for my medium sized hands. I’ve considered the Gen 3 SF, gen4, and sort the gen 5. Particularly fond of the older gens. Not sure which to get. Great video tho! Helps narrow down my options!
No problem. The forward heavy weight of the longer slide really makes it perfect to shoot. Not to mention more velocity, check out my g29 vs g20 vs g40 playlist
They possibly put the stronger spring for a more positive lockup. I was wondering if it could be the cause of the erratic ejection. Another thing the lockup on the bottom of the barrel is not the same as the gen 4.
I was hoping my KKM barrel in my G20.4 would fit in the eventual purchase of the G20.5 MOS. I think you've cleared that up for me. Looks like I will have to purchase another KKM barrel.
It may not go on as the safety plunger needs to be pressed down so the striker assy. can be moved to its' most forward position for the slide to go back on. My stock Gen 4 Glock 20 slide would not go on without the striker assy. in the most forward position, regardless of the stock or KKM barrel.
My KKM barrel sucked They even charged me shipping to send it back so they could "redo the barrel to work with underwoods" And it STILL didn't work right lmfao What a crock a chit
My friend let me shoot the G40 10mm gen4. It was the most accurate handgun I've ever fired. I love that I can genuinely call it the biggest baddest Glock.
I feel like the Gen 5 20 is a step backward. I was very disappointed to learn that they now shipped with a plastic mos plate and only one adapter for the Holosun or RMR. The G40 is the only 10mm Glock I would trust.
I trust my Gen 4 Glock 20 with the standard barrel and with a threaded KKM barrel. At this point I trust it more with the KKM barrel as most of the rounds I've fired have been through that. Shoots everything from 40 S&W up to full Buffalo Bore & Underwood 10 mm ammo.
Honestly most people can’t afford to shoot enough Buffalo bore or underwood hot rodded 10mm Hardcast etc… to see a malfunction. The average joe spends 100$ on some very expensive (Bear loads) which is about 75 rounds, shoots 1 mag and calls it 100% reliable. I’ve shot the piss out of the G29 G20 and G40 and I can honestly say the G40 was the most reliable. When you run the hot stuff through the Glock you have to take mag springs , recoil springs and the most important thing IMO is measuring the feed lips on your magazines with a caliper. The tolerance is big and most failure to feed is attributed to that gap being to wide. I personally would not trust a Glock 20 any Gen without doing the proper modifications mentioned. I would rather carry the 45acp Glock 21 with 255grn hard cast or even a 9mm with Buffalo bore outdoorsman 148grn hard cast over the Glock 20 10mm. Edit: my personal bear defense pistol has been the Glock model 41 45acp 255grn Hardcast chrono right at 1000fps. That’s 16 on the Taylor knockout scale. Compared to a 200 grn 10mm @ 1250fps scoring 14 on the Taylor knockout scale.
watch out with too tight a chamber support can eventually cause your extractor to go from the back side (not the claw side). KKM's are good but they are not far from being tight enough to cause that. Always do the plunk test. Should be able to freely rotate the bullet inside the chamber, and bullet should be able to freely fall if you hold the barrel upside down.
@@AlaskanBallistics Yeah so i hear All i know is i tried so hard to get it to run right Lotta money Different springs Round after round They had me send the kkm barrel back to have them "redo it so it can work with underwoods" (That's literally what the guy at kkm told me) Really concentrating on my grip Etc etc Idk maybe just bad luck or a lemon idk but just so happy to be rid of it Was so disappointed
The biggest part is stopping me from buying the Gen 5 is the polymer pin that holds down the cruciform to the connector inside the part that holds the ejector
How’s it against the Gen 3 G 20. I didn’t know the y changed from hexagonal barreling to standard round. Sounds ok but I trained with gen 3 G 20 for over 21 years I’ll stick with what I know. I do like the 10mm period . I do have an affinity for the EAA WITNESS 10 mm class even though I don’t own one. Only problem bigger bulky but shoot’s and hits on target.
I've been shooting Glocks for probably 25 years, but I'm not sure I'd trust it in 10mm. 9mm, 40 cal - no problem. I want to love it, but I'm haring a lot of mixed reviews about it, and I just can't risk a problem when I need it the most.
The marksman barrel is STILL polygonal rifling and you shouldn’t shoot hardcast through it…. I just picked up a 21 gen 5 and the holosun eps and Ameriglo sights are on the way…..
The 220 Underwood hardcast your running will do fine with 0 fouling in Gen4 Glocks. I have 100+ through a Gen4 40MOS. The red coating they use is phenomenal. I tried one of these at the range. It was spitting crap from the chamber around the ejection port area as what you stated and I saw on some of your shots. I decided to go with S&W M&P 2.0 4" model. A full Benjamin less out the door with another Benny as a factory rebate. Only has 2 mags. Ok. Has better sights, all around better ergos, a trigger I'm still hoping changes (for the better with use), and is a bit smaller all around. Yeah, it loses .49" in barrel. I figure that to about 20fps from standard 180gr fodder. I really wanted the G20MOS. Just looks like they (uncharacteristically) got it wrong by a bit. Good presentation.
Sometimes with new products there are initial problems that need to be overcone, improved upon. So I think it is best to hold off on buying the Gen 5 Glocks in the 10mm caliber. As Glock needs to re-examine the Gen 5 model 20 design. What is the name of those super Hard Cast bullets you reloaded? How would you compare them to the Underwood 200/220 or Buffalo Bore Hard Cast Lead Outdoorsman rounds?

Debating on getting the gen 5 my gen 4 has been great I've heard a few people saying they had problems with the gen 5 but don't know if it's just they didn't clean it before hand
Better than it was but making it through 1 mag of the same ammo I wouldn't call it reliable. It was brand new so if something was a little out of spec breaking it in would improve reliability. I've had over a dozen glocks 9mms run straight out of the box no cleaning no break in. When I got my 17 I shot 1000 rounds without cleaning straight out of the box. My 20s have always been perfect till you get around 600 ft lbs or over then the malfunctions start popping up. I would shoot a couple hundred rounds of the cheapest ammo I could find then clean it and try a couple hundred rounds of whatever your gonna carry for grizzly.
Ive alwayse wanted to build a glock 20 into a rowland special. I think the gen 5 would still be a good candidate. Though I did get used to having finger grooves
@@AlaskanBallistics yikes that's right. I'm curious how prevalent eny issues would be. I know older gen had issues but I'm curious if they done enything that made them go back
So guys am I doing something wrong? I bought a 20 Gen 5 and the only ammo I Have issues with is underwood hard cast 220 grain. It will not cycle that ammo on a full magazine. Once the magazine is down to 5 rounds it will cycle. The gun has 500 rounds through it, and has been cleaned.
Great video Chuck. I think I’m going for Gen 4. Bells and whistles aside reliability is paramount and kkm barrel is all but automatic. You mentioned the G40 instead of the G20 is that solely because the optics mount or are there other factors? Again great video Thank You!!! SemperFi and God Bless
The g40 gain 90 fps to 160 fps over the g20, usually. The g40's long slide makes it front heavy for taking out the recoil. The g40 has a better trigger with their 3.5lb disconnector spring in it. th-cam.com/play/PLgyCOrlBEzeA39nNkZzQ3AODCF9KCVPVU.html
So Glock mostly follow suit with other companies and the aftermarket with gen5 that other have been doing for a while now. Great upgrades if you don't got a Glock or don't got a 10mm but is it too late to the game? Same as the new 47? Is answer what aftermarket has been doing for a while.
It did not say to clean first. It said be sure it’s “free from obstructions” there’s a difference. Glocks come with a grease from the factory that needs to be run before cleaning. Just put 50 or so rounds through it before cleaning anything.
Do you recommend the gen 4? I just went to the shop looking for a g20 but didn’t expect to see a gen 5 but I held it and felt good in the hands coming from a hellcat micro
All u have to do to put the slide back on traditionally like all the other gens is…..push down the firing pin safety on the bottom of the slide before putting slide back on.
So even with an ejector that's so tall you can't push the slide over it, you're getting ejected cases straight back in the face? Can that ejector fin be tuned to save your eyes and eyepro?
@@AlaskanBallistics No I didn't see it here, but I trust you. I've had some splash damage from S&B before too. Deagles are the worst. Lots of people have gotten forehead welts from those.
After the 1st time removing the slide on my Gen 4 Glock 20 slide I could not put it back on. I actually broke the ejector rod and had to buy a new one. After installing the new ejector rod it still wouldn't go back on, so I brought it back to Cabella's where I bought it and they couldn't get it back together either. So I compared a brand new Gen 4 Glock 20's slide after removing it and compared the 2 slides. I noticed that on the new slide the striker assy. was a bit more forward than mine. So I depressed the safety block plunger down, moved the striker assy. forward, and my slide was able to be re-assembled back on the lower. The same thing might be happening when you tried to put the KKM barrel in the Gen 5 slide. Hope you try this and get back to us as to whether or not this fixed the problem with the KKM barrel.
Excellent review on an awesome 10mm. Store a slice of cheese between the upper and lower. Snack time. Want this with the New GLOCK Enhanced Trigger to be installed by my friend an armourer/engineer.
The reset is better on the gen 5; the entire trigger pull is slightly better actually, the gun is wayyyy better than the gen 4. Flared mag well, followers, front slides serrations, the nose is designed better, its lighter and shorter than the gen4. And no finger grooves, way better than the gen 4 also.
I think Chuke limp-wristed his new gun id bet. Chuck, you had made a comment when it came to feeding and jamming with his new gen 5 g 20, something about over spring either with the magazine or the gun or a combination which I never thought about. I'm wondering if you've ever had an opportunity to kind of dissect the issue of why so many Glock 43x and 48 have issues with Shield 15 magazines? So many people have issues with failure to feeds, me included. I Shot many rounds, close to 1,000 through one magazine had no issue until one day in the cold Shot some high quality hollow points and then finally had my first issue. I know it wasn't the gun because it did it in my 43x mos and the 48 MOS. Would like to know your thoughts.... both guns were clean, ammo was sig 124gr hollow points and Hornady 124 grain defense ammo Thanks
Alot of ppl say that the guns are supposed to run dry. I've found the opposite to be true when it comes to reliability. It takes all of 2 minutes to clean a Glock so the powder build up on the extra lubrication is an irrelevant point. In my unimportant opinion
It kind of sounds like the design needs some tweaking in regards to extra blowback. This is not normal from Glock and I hope they correct this before the possible release of the 29.5 and the 40.5
Thank you for easing my mind! I have one on the way and am hoping it runs like every other Glock I've had. Every new pistol I get, I break em down, give em a light brushing, and oil em up a little. Do I think it SHOULD run out the box? Meh, yea, I guess. Do I do that to my guns? Nope. One thing tho - 10mm brass does not count as litter any more than cash left on the table of a restaurant does 😁
Nice video as usual. Could you please measure the MOS ? How does it differ from the gen4 ? I was about get MOS milled on my gen3 slide, yes I'm in Commiefornia, but if it's different it should open up the red dot opportunities. My goal is to be able to shoot 1000m with my custom build G20 SF.
Food for thought. You say on one hand the new glock can still be slimmer and also you shoot your gen 4 better. Well a small gen 4 is about the same grip size as the middle gen 5. You should try putting on the middle grip on the gen 5 and see if your shooting improves? You been shooting with the gen 4 so much you just ignore the inherent weaknesses of the gen 4 design. Youve already overcome them.
I want to get back to 10mm but there was always something that bugged me about it even with the plethora of pistols chambered for it. Realized that the pistol format is just not correct for it; especially with full-power loads which rivals .357 magnum velocities. The PCC format fits it perfectly. Just my opinion.
The gen 5's have standard rifling, not hexagonal rifling like the Gen 1 - 4 Glocks.

Thanks man. It didn't feel like i was shooting 9mm . Godspeed and good hunting.
I'll stick with my Gen 4 G20 and G40. I have KKM barrels in both can't be more pleased with their performance.
Amen. Love my g40 with the kkm barrel. Got to get one for my gen4 g20
@@AlaskanBallistics what length barrel would you get for your G20 ? Thanks
Me too! I have Alpha Wolf barrels in all 3 of my Glock gen4 10mm’s and they are awesome!

@M. W MY gen4 is pretty reliable unless I put the g40 6" OEM barrel in it. Then it gets picky.

I've shot Gen 4's and they run flawlessly. No reason to change

@@AlaskanBallistics something i like about the 4 over the 5 to be honest. they are all reliable. only thing is get mos version if you want an optic. otherwise you can't really make a mistake getting a glock at all.

That M&P 2.0 10mm in FDE🤤🤤
It's had some feeding issues though
I just got the G20 gen 5 a couple days ago. Havent even shot it yet and never had a 10mm, only 9mm. Hopefully they release some longer gen 5 barrels for 10mm. Seems like there is a lot of options for 10mm loaded at different velocities and vastly different energies. The hotter rounds with 600-700 fpe look great for self defense and out in the woods
Edit: Ive shot it 4 times now (about 300 rounds) without any issues (4 kinds of hollow points, 220gr hard cast, 3 kinds of fmj) and its a little more fun to shoot than 9mm.

Consider a g40. Easier to shoot and very reliable
I’ll have to check one out, thank you!
No problem. The forward heavy weight of the longer slide really makes it perfect to shoot. Not to mention more velocity, check out my g29 vs g20 vs g40 playlist
That makes sense. I’ll check those out too! Thanks again!
They possibly put the stronger spring for a more positive lockup. I was wondering if it could be the cause of the erratic ejection. Another thing the lockup on the bottom of the barrel is not the same as the gen 4.
True
I was hoping my KKM barrel in my G20.4 would fit in the eventual purchase of the G20.5 MOS. I think you've cleared that up for me. Looks like I will have to purchase another KKM barrel.
Yep. Me too
It may not go on as the safety plunger needs to be pressed down so the striker assy. can be moved to its' most forward position for the slide to go back on. My stock Gen 4 Glock 20 slide would not go on without the striker assy. in the most forward position, regardless of the stock or KKM barrel.
Has kkm started making more gen 5 barrels? The last I looked the selection was very small.
Probably not yet
My KKM barrel sucked
They even charged me shipping to send it back so they could "redo the barrel to work with underwoods"
And it STILL didn't work right lmfao
What a crock a chit
My friend let me shoot the G40 10mm gen4. It was the most accurate handgun I've ever fired. I love that I can genuinely call it the biggest baddest Glock.
The g40 is my favorite glock, and I've got a ton of videos on it my friend. Take care Kevin!
When will they have a gen5 model 40 mos??
I don't know but I love my gen4 40 mos
I feel like the Gen 5 20 is a step backward.
I was very disappointed to learn that they now shipped with a plastic mos plate and only one adapter for the Holosun or RMR.
The G40 is the only 10mm Glock I would trust.
My g29gen4 is good too. But the g40 gen4 is certainly the best!
That's good info my friend

I was SO happy when i finally found someone to take it off my hands!!
watch out with too tight a chamber support can eventually cause your extractor to go from the back side (not the claw side). KKM's are good but they are not far from being tight enough to cause that. Always do the plunk test. Should be able to freely rotate the bullet inside the chamber, and bullet should be able to freely fall if you hold the barrel upside down.
Yep. Almost right enough to cause that sounds about right then.
KKMs suck dude
@Gorilla Pimp you're the only one I've ever heard of having this experience.

Honestly i don't see enough of a difference to trade my gen4 to get a gen5. Chamber support is still the same. That's my big issue
The biggest part is stopping me from buying the Gen 5 is the polymer pin that holds down the cruciform to the connector inside the part that holds the ejector

G20 gen 5 had been nothing but great for me, has ran everything I’ve put in it 100’s of rounds at that
Sweet
The marksman barrel is STILL polygonal rifling and you shouldn’t shoot hardcast through it….
I just picked up a 21 gen 5 and the holosun eps and Ameriglo sights are on the way…..
Coated hardcast is okay
You can start from the front just pull upwards a little on the back of the slide. Doesn’t take much force at all
Thanks
Great video! What are the difference between the GEN five and GEN four that makes you shoot your GEN four better? Trigger re set
Honestly i think it's the bigger frame too. But mostly it's more trigger time with the gen4
Thank you. Enjoy your s&w. They can be picky
220 underwoods were horrible in MY g20
Couldn't even get through ONE full mag without jams lmfao
220gr isn't reliable feeding on many guns. 200gr or less.

Is that 180 gr load formula effective like Underwood or Buffalo Bore Hard Cast Lead rounds to stop Kill Bears?
I think so. The only rounds I've actually put through a grizzly bear head are 200gr handloaded hardcast from a .45 super
Debating on getting the gen 5 my gen 4 has been great I've heard a few people saying they had problems with the gen 5 but don't know if it's just they didn't clean it before hand
Correct. Chuke didn't clean this one and had issues, he probably limp wristed it too
Better than it was but making it through 1 mag of the same ammo I wouldn't call it reliable.
Maybe so.

220gr is hard on any platform. The 200gr Underwood and my 180gr handloads penetrate as far or farther with more ft lbs because of speed.

Be cool to do a side by side of the barrels, feed ramps, and recoil springs to maybe show the differences.

So Glock mostly follow suit with other companies and the aftermarket with gen5 that other have been doing for a while now. Great upgrades if you don't got a Glock or don't got a 10mm but is it too late to the game?
Same as the new 47? Is answer what aftermarket has been doing for a while.
The new 47 shoots sweet though
It did not say to clean first. It said be sure it’s “free from obstructions” there’s a difference. Glocks come with a grease from the factory that needs to be run before cleaning. Just put 50 or so rounds through it before cleaning anything.
@@edgetvnet5440 fair enough. But in the -5° he was shooting in, that grease gummed things up

Yes. But the gen5 works. Kkm bagel either way
All u have to do to put the slide back on traditionally like all the other gens is…..push down the firing pin safety on the bottom of the slide before putting slide back on.

@@AlaskanBallistics Yes you still have to with the (Gen 4), for whatever reason it’s specific to the 10mm but not with the other calibers.
Not on my gen4
I think that pin is just an extra replacement pin incase you lose the other one. My g45 came with one
Good to know
Its for the back straps, they add thickness to the grip so you need a longer pin.
So even with an ejector that's so tall you can't push the slide over it, you're getting ejected cases straight back in the face? Can that ejector fin be tuned to save your eyes and eyepro?
That is a good question did you see the erratic ejection?
@@AlaskanBallistics No I didn't see it here, but I trust you. I've had some splash damage from S&B before too.
Deagles are the worst. Lots of people have gotten forehead welts from those.
Have you seen the g9 woodsman ammo? Just seen them at a local shop supposed to penetrate really well
Yes chuke and i did a video b with them in it.
Looking at a 20 only after testing out the hipoint jxp. Just testing the 10 mm out first,
The 20 is a good gun
When do you think KKM will have barrels available for the gen 5?
Probably a few months or more
After the 1st time removing the slide on my Gen 4 Glock 20 slide I could not put it back on.
I'll look into it.
Excellent review on an awesome 10mm. Store a slice of cheese between the upper and lower. Snack time. Want this with the New GLOCK Enhanced Trigger to be installed by my friend an armourer/engineer.

I know XDM shoots right out of the box and yes it states you're supposed to clean but no one ever does.
not no one... I almost always do. Several people in the comments always do.
The optic mount slide cut is not standard and does not come on all gen 5 20's...
Interesting. It's been on everyone I've seen
There are definitely some plusses for sure
Would like to know your thoughts.... both guns were clean, ammo was sig 124gr hollow points and Hornady 124 grain defense ammo
Thanks
The shield mags just have weak springs. You put in slightly hotter ammo and the gun wasn't timed up.
What do you think about a Glock 20 Gen 4 made in the USA?
Should be fun!
Alot of ppl say that the guns are supposed to run dry. I've found the opposite to be true when it comes to reliability. It takes all of 2 minutes to clean a Glock so the powder build up on the extra lubrication is an irrelevant point. In my unimportant opinion
I totally agree with you. Godspeed and good hunting.
It kind of sounds like the design needs some tweaking in regards to extra blowback. This is not normal from Glock and I hope they correct this before the possible release of the 29.5 and the 40.5

Maybe so.
I want to get back to 10mm but there was always something that bugged me about it even with the plethora of pistols chambered for it.
Realized that the pistol format is just not correct for it; especially with full-power loads which rivals .357 magnum velocities.
The PCC format fits it perfectly. Just my opinion.
Hard to carry a pcc everywhere though.
