Can you patch a hole in an oil pan with RTV? Not JB WELD but RTV? Let's find out!

  • In this video I show what a few minutes of play time, a tube of silicone, an idea and a junk car gets you when you have a hole in the oil pan.
My young Kings were having a grand ole time while daddy tried to figure out how to move this car without cranking up the tow truck.
This was an experiment that was random but perfect because I always wanted to know if it could work either way.
I wouldn't try this on a block per se as I mentioned in the video because the pressures will be way to high to maintain stability.
I hope you enjoy, Like share subscribe and visit us at Seasallauto.com for information, products and services.

"In the name of science" Love it man!!
Dude, I need this because I cant lift my engine to get the oil pan out (2003 Grand Am) no hoist and no extra money.... sad life. A ratchet strap in the road put a hole in my oil pan and my transmission pan.... FML.... but I am going to try this and I'll let you know. I've been searching for hours to find someone to show me something I can do in my situation, and here you are....Maybe even make my own video to show people that don't have funds or friends to help can still find a way to keep on going without this ruining a chunk of their life with no car. I love you dude!! Thank you, I am grateful!!

Thank you for your time, I enjoyed your video, but my advice is not to get under the car without a jack stand, hydraulic jacks , when the seals go bad, they drop , sometimes , slowly and sometimes rapidly,
And I love children, but they shouldn't be in a work area, specially if it's not100% safe proof, but like i said thank for the information it is vary helpful, be well

I actually found out that our TV works better than J-B Weld. J-B Weld will eventually cracked and you would have to patch over it again and again and again. Our TV is flexible and is high temperature rated also the ultrablack is oil resistant. So is the perfect sealant for a crack or hole if the hole is not too big

I didn't think of that I would definitely look into it in the event this happens again

I've tried that steel stick on my transmission before and it worked fine until I swapped transmissions I think I lost 3rd but it still was working fine besides no third, this time I have a hole the size of my fist about so I'm thinking jb weld steel stick and rtv for this one I'm pretty sure it will work hopefully or I'm screwed !!!

    • @Fasttowpro
      @Fasttowpro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Man it depends on how big that hole is that's crazy if you have something the size of your fist I don't know what you're going to do but you can try even cutting a piece of metal and having it welded on or silicone that piece of metal in there which is extremely gangster but can work if it doesn't hit extreme pressures. This does work but it's also not a long-term fix it was just something temporary but hopefully it works out on your end thanks for the comment 🙌🏿

It's been about 3 months and it's still going strong 🤣 I will say J-B weld is probably a better solution I just did not have any available silicone works though. I also let it sit for 24 hours

Pat Seaser hey bud, I had some high temp Red RTV and some fine metal screen. I hit the area with some brake clean and some 80grit sand paper. I gooped up a good amount of the RTV and covered the area with about 3/4 of an inch extra on all sides squared up nice. I then took square pieces of screen and laid them up over the hole I was patching. As I laid up more and more pieces of screen I applied more RTV. I still have a decent amount of RTV but I want to wait until the few screens and RTV set and dry. It was working well. Very similar to fiber glass lay up on a surf board to carbon fiber. I know it sounds rigged but it seems to be working so far. I don’t have a good lift so trying to take out the secondary aluminum oil pan under the crank would involve so many parts to be removed which is next to impossible with the tires only inches off the ground. I also have to tig fill the down pipe exhaust coming off the exhaust manifold.
All of this because some genius that was moving it at the auction yard didnt consider the indefinite damage that would occur while lifting the car with a forklift from under the front end right against the exhaust. The exhaust flange punches through the crank case/2nd oil pan.

Use thicker oil on high mileage engines. They are more worn out inside. They will burn the newer car thin oil.

Your kids are adorable but I have to say just holding that car up with a jack that has the handle still attached to it with babies running around it could cause for a really big accident I think you should put jack stands underneath or blocks just in case just to be on the safe side no disrespect I'm just saying safe to sorry but love your video
