  • Heres a small video on a repair I had to do. Somewhere on my trips around the coast something has poked a hole through the factory cover plate and into the engine, at first i thought it may have just had too much oil put in from the service it had and was just dripping out the bleed hole but after a week of a very slow oil drip i decided to take the cover plate off and have a look under it. Woodzman has done a video for an aftermarket bash plate that looked very good but I hadn’t gotten around to getting one yet and unfortunately have learned the lesson the hard way.
    Heres what I did/used.
Used some CRC mag wheel cleaner that I had which has degreasing properties to clean the area.
Sanded the area where the epoxy was going to stick.
Used some Metal putty/epoxy filler to fill the hole, sets in a hour and can be sanded smooth.
After my ride to and from work today looks fine, solid as a rock and no leak. The epoxy filler was on special for $8 so over all was a good cheap fix. I may look at getting it tidied up when it next gets serviced but might not need to.

Good job on the repair. First mod on any dirt bike should be a skid plate. Even gravel roads can cause damage too much for a stock plastic thingy.

+azdesertdog Thanks. It is a essential thing to get just got carried away with getting the fun stuff first foolishly, lucky it wasn't to serious.

Educational. Thanks. Are you planning on an aluminum skid plate now or is that stock on good enough?

+Vermont Dualsport Will get an alloy one for sure, at least will get one before riding around the coast again the stock one has been fine for sticks and so on but I'm guessing it was a rock just went straight through it.

+Enduro Riders I point at the hole at the end of the video on the skid plate, was not very big was a slow leak of oil hardly noticeable until I cleaned the engine to have a decent look.

It is better to use metal epoxy ! The two tubes that you mix and dry very quick and just 5 minutes and wait 1 to 2 hours to be hard dry

A vehicle can pass a road worthy test with no engine at all.
