The arrangement is mutually beneficial. Tom Nook's store gets bigger, but so does villager's house. Sure, he puts villager in debt initially but it is not that hard to pay off. He also doesn't raise prices and try to gauge anyone fact his bigger store allows for more selection.

But in New Leaf he's not the owner of the shop that gives you money so yeah, for me it's a good guy. His business is fast (he can reform your house in a couple of hours) and he doesn't put deadlines or interest for your payement so... I wish that there were people like him in real life.
Well, with this, the thing is Villager is somewhat similar to Ness, but in a different way: You see, when you play EarthBound and you look deep into the games' lore, you find out that EarthBound is a about a group of children who lose their innocence and grow up into adults, mentally speaking. Ness has to encounter lots of enemies that make him change as he progresses. Once he defeats the final boss, he and his friends have already grown into adults inside their minds, and live their normal life peaceful and happy. And with this theory that you brought up with Animal Crossing, Villager is also mentally growing. This is due to the fact that he is forced into the world of economy and globalization. He sees things, he collects things, he buys things, he just wants more and more, but still feels empty. Then, he finds out that even though you may have lots of things and money in your possession, you still have your most precious thing in the world: your life. And he lives it nice and well alongside his animal friends.

I did play this game over an year. It was very fun for a long time, but then two major problems came, that made me stop playing. First was that I just didn't have anything to do. I got all the big stuff you can get with the money: Biggest house, village max upgrades, lot's of cool stuff. I wanted to play it, but there wasn't anything interesting to really do, like play with animal people. Second was the animal people. I never liked when someone left, because I really liked some of them. Like that nice squirrel girl, who was active & happy. Or that wise eagle guy. Not only that, they left all the time. It was too heart breaking for me when a new friend moved in & in the same week someone leaves just because this game is a ass. Even though I don't want to play this series ever again, I am very happy to have experienced it. It is one of those things, that are very different to hear about and actually go through them. It's like your own personal comic book story: The Ending was sad in some way, but you are still happy for all the adventures you had there.

So if coffee from the roost in New Leaf is 200 bells, divide it by 100, equals 2. The housing prices are kind of real. I have done a few little equals thing. 10k = £100 | 39,800 = £398 | 98,000 = £980 Another example is this: 480,000 = 4800. It is sort of similar to rental prices I suppose, and it progressively gets bigger each time your house does. Sorry for rambling xD
