Thank you for the reminders on table manners. I need a refresher. It’s time to dust off Emily Post’s Etiquette.

Dear Alice, I am so refreshed by your channel content, your style, your natural looks, your elegance and all advices. The things you name as old school as they do really are the ones that give you true spine of inside and outside virtues. I have been to Paris 3 times , in 2007, 2009 and 2011 and once it was winter right before Christmas, next time it was Autumn and one time it was Sumer, so I wish to travel one more time in Spring:). I was so impressed, beyond the words about everything, absolutely everything with small exceptions that I will keep for myself. What I noticed among people is that most of the people wear wool or other material kind of more classic jackets, raincoats, but no much of puffer jackets , this makes people look elegant in all of their social classes. Girls look so natural with their hair style and makeup. And everything what you find to shop including in the underground train stations, all things about shopping even that cost 1 euro are of good quality. Paris is beautiful, people are beautiful, I am coming back with my memories back again and again. :) Thank you very much for your content a lot ! Best regards from Lituanie ;)

Alice, all these tips are excellent. Believe it or not, there are etiquette classes here that teach these things to Americans, if we simply take the classes. Our parents are supposed to teach us these good manners when we are young. It is too bad that people are ignorant of them. One thing I do (because I am a trained anthropologist, for one thing) when I travel (and I have traveled all over the world) is learn about the customs first, then observe, and try to fit in. When in Paris, do as the Parisians do! 😎😎

I am French and Parisian. “French traditional education” ….what is this? Do you actually mean upbringing? And even though, what do you mean? I love being French but I do not think that “being French” grants anybody the right to judge and impose rules of elegance. How many French women have you seen lately wearing a little black dress?

White is my favorite wardrobe color, followed by light pinks, greens and blues, and taupe. I don’t wear a lot of black, so for my darker colors, I prefer navy, dark greens, burgundy, etc. My very pale, “Summer” (cool, soft), personal coloring dictates my palette, I wear what suits me best. This means mostly lighter colors, I not only am very pale, but I have dark shadows under my eyes that appear worse when I wear dark colors.

When you say “chic” do you mean classy and timeless? Don’t wear fast fashion/street clothes. Always be presentable and you have to play the part. Be confident but not arrogant. Also you have to carry yourself in a certain manner learn manners. Yes clothes are a big thing but it’s not everything. What I’m trying to say is be lady like don’t get into drama or cause it. And for men behave properly have respect for women. Be a gentleman open doors and learn the old school way. Have respect for everyone and be open minded I find that very attractive in a person. Learn to communicate and learn people skills. (Business, Professional, things like that.)

Chic like only Europeians Can look. To have class and beeing elegant .
It can’t be explained but if you compeare Americans with eigther trashy trailer look or Big flowery leggings , having absolutely not a clue how They look. - or duck lips, very reweiling clothes - a very god exsample is the “Selling the OC” on Netflix, these girls or women for US look very very cheap.
That kind of “designer look” with more skin shown than fabric is expensive for Them, but looks very very cheap.
In Europe this kind of girls would be seen at as prostit@tes !
You would never ever se a realestate agent or any kind of a bank- Office- or business woman from Europe EVER wear that kind of clothes!
It is the House first, then a serious discrete formal look for the realestate agent! In Europe weare flappergasted to see what these and other women in America wear wich makes Them very very unflattering , cap, sweatshirt, sportswear in public , pyjamas in the grocery store , neon nail polish , neon clothes. They have absolutely no selfrespect or self critisism when They look in the mirror.
Not beeing ableor haven’t even learned to eat with a fork and knife, (in Europe kids from 2-3 yrs already learned it) do not hold a wineglass elegant like it should ..
it is revealing and very very sad to Watch and thats why a lot of Americans are looked at as if havent had any Education how to eat or sit in an restaurant . Some behave like Wild animals eating with a spoon or fork only!
The kardashians , we do not admire Them what so ever!
They have absolutely no respect or beeeing admired in Europe!
To much boobs, booty and makeup , no natural behavior or looks!
They behave like They are entitled to everything!
They could learn to be humble and less “look at me”
americans and the lack of good behavior, when They visit Europe They cant understand why They dont blend in and get spotted by pickpockets from a distance !😢
A person like @Wolter the traveller on TH-cam scream out in every video how not to behave in Europe, and he havent Got a clue how to blend in, be humble and listen to the locals
Get som selfrespect, listen, treat your body like a temple and wear somediscrete and not revealing clothes!
To behave with class and beeing chick is to have good manners too, and treat others with respect, to be able to sit at a table and have dinner eating nicely, even if it is at Wendys! Selfrespect , do not ever applause yourself in public, do not scream and shout in public, be humble and dont always me-me - me when you are withothers!
Americans Can be pointed out in every group for their clothes, sandals, backpack cap or Big Sun hat, leggings with Big flowers , and ridicilous Long and ugly cheaplooking nails!
Go be yourself, be more natural , be discrete, do not wear tons of makeup, that makes youlook Old and cheap, sorry to say, thats how a lot of Americans are looked at in Europe

My rule has always been: Short, Tight/Bodycon, Low-Cut - Only one per outfit! I don’t like showing cleavage because I have a larger bust, so I like to show off my legs instead. They’re my best body feature, but even when visible, I never wore a skirt shorter than mid-thigh. Now that I’m older, I wear them even longer, but still above the knee. Being only 164 cm, most “mini” skirts, except from those cheap junior/teen brands, are the right length on me. I wear midi and maxi lengths, too, but minis are still my favorite.

😂😂😂 I can almost see your eyebrows going up in Miami restaurant where you see a woman tucking a napkin into the collar of her top/dress. You must have gone through some enormous culture shocks in Miami. I have to say that culture rubs off on everyone. If somebody has been brought up with bad examples and a lack of good ones, it can be hard for that person in a different milieu, no matter how much money you make or how smart you are. Staying natural and humble and respectful is the best you can try to do. There’s also the matter of cultural differences. If you’re enjoying Asian food and eating from a small bowl with chopsticks, it’s absolutely fine to bring the bowl to your mouth. In fact you probably should. In a Lebanese restaurant you’re expected to eat with your hands. I was taught by my Russian grandma to tip the plate away from me when I finished a deep plate of soup, yet it was fine to eat your “tartine” bread with your hands. It’s all a matter of being open and adaptive in my opinion. I really like your tip re the hand under your fork. I haven’t heard that one and I assume you put your knife down first.
Re the cursing, I absolutely agree. I see some vey intelligent people in their forties on TH-cam using the F word unnecessarily. Why? At first I was unpleasantly surprised and then I got used to it. It has a different color and association for them. I make that mistake as well when I’m comfortable with my husband or friends and now I have to deal with my 11 year old son saying what the F. I don’t curse in Russian, ever. Also a matter of upbringing. From now on I’m going to try and use French curses! I really like that idea 💡!

    • @Aliceinparisofficial
      @Aliceinparisofficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think education is very important and can still make the difference but education is not a question of money anymore. It was before but not now. I see people with “new money” with no taste and no education at all. And yes, I saw a lot of people pretending in Miami but it was fake and a lot of bad manners. I think faking and pretending is extremely tacky and the worst you can do. If you don’t know, be simple and learn from successful people. If you do know, stay simple. Like Chanel used to say, elegance is simplicity and simplicity is elegance

Natural-looking, French-style hair, nails and makeup forever! Always have, always will. I’m always amazed at how some of my fellow American women spend hours every morning on maximum makeup, etc., yet don’t take care of themselves at all, most are fat to downright obese. I suppose it is psychologically compensatory to do all that, but elaborate hair and makeup just don’t compensate aesthetically. I would much rather go for my brisk morning hill-walk and maintain my healthy body, weight and figure. Most Americans eat a really fattening, unhealthy diet, too. All that processed food, sugar and carbs., brands even put sugar in mayonnaise now (it tastes disgusting). A significant percentage of Americans eat at McDonald’s every day! Unbelievable.
