The Oklahoma City Thunder have a great chance to get the number 1 pick in this year's NBA Draft but even if they don't Sam Presti has an excellent draft record. This is a look at what the Thunder should do this offseason to make huge strides in their rebuild.

OKC doesnt have a good future until they start to do one thing, and that get real veteran leadership, that show this team how to close out game and start winning. Russel Westbrook isnt a player you need, stay away from this player

Just look at the rate top picks Plan out... if they don’t hit them they’re gonna end up as a tough 1st or 2nd round exit
OKC won 24 games while resting a lot of their starters. If they draft a stretch 4 like Jabari Smith Jr or Keegan Murray with their earliest 1st pick, and Mark Williams or another 5 with the Clippers' pick, they'll be right on track for the play-in next year.

Thunder is the most intriguing small market team in the nba imo
They need to pay Lou Dort, he has really earned the new contract. I think Sam Presti has done an awesome job of stockpiling draft picks and identifying good players. I think OKC needs to add a decent veteran or two in order to take the next step. I think Chet Holmgren is a talented player but God, he is TOOTHPICK skinny and I fear he's going to get pushed around.
OKC is smart. They operate with a HUGE inherent disadvantage. They are in one of the smallest NBA markets and they have difficulty attracting stars in FA. So, the plan is to acquire picks and then use them and some expiring contracts to acquire stars... in addition to drafting stars, which they do better than virtually any other NBA team. Necessity drives success. Their biggest problem is that once rookie deals expire, their stars want out. KEY to success is to build the right chemistry and winning record BEFORE their stars hit FA to give them motivation to resign.
I think SGA will make a huge jump next season. I love SGA's game!!!

OKC has very bright future. With so many picks and a little bit of luck, they can be legit contenders in two-three years while having high first round picks for next 5-7 or even 8 years... And that is a scary thought, the League will be in trouble. Sam Presti is a genius.

The Thunder will NOT be making all those picks over the next six years. At some point, they will be trading some of them to either move up in the draft to get a top-3 pick or they will trade for a superstar.
If they don't trade a bunch of those ones, they'll end up cutting first round draft choices cuz roster is only 15 players.
You should totally do a pacers off-season video, they have a very interesting squad to look out for!

Westbrook shouldn’t be mentioned in anything OKC even if it’s to be the popcorn sales man…. OKC is about to DESTROY the nba with all the young talent and draft capital your GM is gathering…. SGA will be an all star next year
As rare as good quality Thunder videos are, this was few and far between. One of the better Thunder videos I’ve seen. Good job, and I agree with most of what you said. Only things I disagree with are the Russell Westbrook trade, the “dumb trade” (we got Tre Mann instead of sengun, which were very happy with), and the Ochai Agbaji draft pick (don’t like his potential at all, would rather take a flier on Ousmane Dieng or Jeremy Sochan). Great vid👍

This is an exciting team to watch out for. I think they may be busy during draft night. That's when I expect moves to be made
OKC does not want Russ back playing for them. He is the antithesis of the style of play they have now and would take away minutes from developing young players and, more importantly, take the ball out of Shai and Giddey's hands, which would be awful for them in the long term. Taking on a net of like $33.5 million in salary for a single first from the Lakers that may turn out to be complete junk isn't great either. They start paying Shai his max next year, and they also will still be paying $27.4 million to Kemba Walker. They could take on Westbrook's salary then release him so that he could play somewhere else though. The Lakers need some decent role players and OKC could send them some guys like Muscala, Kenrich Williams, or even Dort as part of the trade, but it would cost them their 2027 and 2029 first round picks and maybe even a pick swap, depending on the guys sent.
The Thunder need to free up spots on their roster for the new players they have coming in this upcoming season anyway, so it makes sense to part with some of these guys. I think they take 2-3 guys this draft and probably trade away the Suns pick at 30 and maybe trade their early second round pick too. I agree that trading away Sengun at 16 last year was really stupid. I don't think they will trade away the 12th pick this year though, and certainly not their own pick which will be somewhere between 1-8. They could get someone like Eason or Duren at 12, and that would help a lot. They aren't likely to get Holmgren, so Duren makes a lot of sense. I like Agbaji too, but he's more of a win now kind of pick, and they will probably tank for another year or two.
I think $14.5 million per year is an overpay for Dort. They still might do it though.

They got #2 but picked up Chet anyways, then got 2 more lottery players by throwing a bunch of future picks at it.

For the casual fans which are legion and have never watch OKC as they are rarely on nationally, take notice of this team. At this moment the have three potential stars-Shai, Giddey and the Steph Lite Tre Mann (watch some videos of him.) plus Pokusevski who improved greatly and Bazley and others. Except for Shai, who is just 23, the rest of their best players are ALL under 22. Plus their two choices this year, hopefully Holmgren or Jabari and the 12th (the Thunder haven’t had one high since Adams and before then James Harden drafted 13 years ago. In other words, a very good pick by the master, Sam Presti.Catch them.

I was interested in what you had to say about okc. They're an interesting team with so many options. If I were presti, if I couldn't get a top 3 pick this year, I'd be looking to trade assets for a star. A star added to this team would make them a playoff team very quickly. That russ or Tobias option is a good idea by the way. I'd go for Tobias though because of giddy and sga in the backcourt. Hayward in Charlotte is another option.
This team should be nothing less than a championship contender for the next decade. I know sga is a star and could be elite but if an opportunity comes up to package him for a top 10 player in the league, I wouldn't hesitate if he doesn't become that himself.
I feel like prestis ultimate goal is to get Victor Wembanyama in next years draft. So I could see him trying to get more picks in the 2023 draft. Also a sleeper I would love to see Okc get is John Butler from FSU he is a 7'1 sf/pf if okc is able to get Wembanyama in 2023 they could have a big linup of Giddy Bazley Poku Butler and Wembanyama! I would also like to see the thunder take a risk on a guy like Issac with all the cap they have and a late 1st.

If it plays out the way I would like it to the most from this video, We'd have a starting 5 of Giddey Shai Lu/Ogbaje Tobias Holmgren. That helps alot in our lack of rim protection & 3 point shooting. I do think Mann can be a starter in the league so you could use Mann Shai Giddey Tobias Holmgren if you'd rather or if they don't end up paying Dort. But The awesome thing about Giddey, he fits well anywhere 1-4.

Many sources say that grant will be traded to Portland. Probably for 2nd round pick and Keon Johnson. Also Grant is working out with Dame so its even more possible

Wow! Presti has been good at identifying talent and development, but it’s almost like too many draft picks. Every team knows you’re going to trade up.

They should do whatever they can to get jabari smith or chet holgren they both fit the team perfectly and both looking like future superstars

if they get the 4th pick, then they got to trade up in to the top 3. All 3 of the top 3 are forwards which they need but the clear 4th pick(jaden ivy) is a guard, which they are loaded with
I'm a HUGE fan of the NBA, so I'm interested in every team.
SGA is their #1 guy, Giddey is probably their tertiary option, Dort, Bazely, Tre Mann, Roby, and Poku are some interesting role-players. I may be missing a player or two.
OKC needs to secure their young core before spending. Tobias Harris is a nice veteran that should hope to stick with PHI. That high Lottery Pick should yield a future building block, maybe a #2 guy.
Since the Pacers are floating in the water, how about trading Favors to them and a draft asset for Myles Turner? A young veteran that can help these youngn's develop is a considerable move to make
We would do that in a heartbeat, but the spacers probably say no. Also Favors says he wants to be with the Thunder for the rest of his caree (as have Kenrich, Muscala, and basically all our vets). As someone who has watched every OKC game the past few years (barring a few) it’s crazy to me how underrated SGA is. He is better than Ja and arguably Trae in my opinion, and he really has no apparent weakness. Cannot wait til we get a tens that fits him better so he can show off his skills.
ALL I want is for the Thunder to get the first overall pick and whoever gets that 2nd pick, Presti goes up to them and dangles 6 future firsts and Poku. Than he picks Holmgren and either Banchero or Smith. Those 2 SGA Giddy and Dort will be a great starting 5 for at least a decade

Thunder won’t want Westbrook they need to give the minutes to giddey and shai, they’ll probably waive Westbrook since they have the money.
What do you think about if they get like Paolo or Jabari or Chet..... Kevin Love and a pick for Derrick Favors? gives them a good PF and they get a pick and cleveland gets a back up center. Maybe Cleveland also trade for a small forward and move lauri to a 6th man role off bench.
Putting Russ back on the thunder would be the worst move you could make. Sam Presti would neverrrrrr do it. I would absolutely hate it as a thunder fan.

B4 watching this vid, I was thinking OKC should bundle and trade a few of their first-round picks for two young established stars. But AM clued me in to the (probably correct) idea that nobody's gonna want to play in Oklahoma. So yes: bundle a few ones for higher draft picks. And the Thunder have to pay the DORTure chamber.

As a Thunder season tix holder...I don't want Russ back unless its to officially retire. I thought maybe if he would come off the bench and make a run for 6th man...but he's a me first guy and no longer a fit with the current team.

With Dort, they should do what they did with Nick Collison.
Give Dort a reduced, like 10M a year contract. So lets say.... 45M/4yrs, definitely below his value IMO. What they could do however is with that first year, since they wont have any massive contracts, do what they did with Nick Collison and just give him the rest of the cap for that first year. Which would make that one year look like a ridiculous signing, it would be like 45/50M but then go down to 10 the next year. That way we keep him signed long term, pay him the money he deserves and have more cap to work with moving forward. Im actually not sure why more teams don't do this.
That said i would like to also say that Ochai Agbaji IMO would be perfect next to SGA and Giddey.
That is... Brilliant! All I know for sure is that Sam Presti will make some magic with that, he is incredible. He is on a way to build small market contender only via draft... And during that time he will still have relatively high 1st round picks, ensuing that the contending lasts as much as possible.

I agree with the Shaedon Sharpe pick. But maybe try and take Keegan Murray (Unless ofc they jump into the top 4) with our first pick and hope Sharpe or Duren fall to that 12th pick. Or package 12 + 30 to get one of the two. I'd love to grab Christian Koloko in the 2nd round too.
That won’t happen. Sharpe is highe Ron most draft boards than Keegan Murray. Shaedon goes 4-6 in most mocks. Keegan goes 8-10 in most mocks

At 1-3, I really like Paolo Banchero more than Chet for this team. Very big, very strong, and is the best playmaker/ball mover in the top 3. Also, we need another iso scorer other than sga and that's exactly what he is. In the 4-7 range I like Duren. Again, very big, very strong, crazy defensive potential, amazing short roll ball mover.
I like Duren but not Paolo. Paolo needs the ball in his hands, Chet doesn’t.
@@duffal0 I disagree with you as I see him as a fantastic cutter and I believe in the shot developing. Nevertheless, what's your opinion on Tatum? He is also mostly only effective with the ball in his hand but is a top 10 player in the league. Isn't Paolo's ceiling a jumbo Tatum?
@@andreraffla5555 yeah, I like Paolo a lot and think he will be a good player in the league, he is just a very poor fit for the team. He is ball dominant and can’t play off ball well, which is a horrible fit with Shai and Giddey, who also need the ball. Tatum is fantastic. Jabari and Chet just fit our team better, even though I think Paolo will be better than Jabari, Jabari fits us better.

@@andreraffla5555 yes that is a concern but Tre Mann has proven to be a decent shot creator, that’s why I think shaedon Sharpe is a great fit. He can create his own shot and doesn’t need the ball in his hands.

It must to absolutely horrible to have all those draft picks and no actual open roster spots and all that cap room and money they can spend but no free agents that deserve big money deals eorth over 20 mill per year. All that young talent still with years left on their Rookie deals, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy is one of those things that nobody has ever said! The real problem is that with all those picks can you hit more than you miss and can you find that Super Star to bring it all together to become a serious contender for a championship and hopefully to win a championship.
