Which version is your favorite? Forgot to metnion: PS2 version resolution: 480i. XBOX resolution: 480p I run into some issues analyzing the framerate with the PS2 version so I left it out. Going by my estimation the framerate for the PS2 version is between 15-60fps.
Forget what console you should play it on, words cannot express how well optimised Max Payne was on PC hardware back when it first released. Remedy put in an excellent software T&L system so you could run the game on much older 3DFX Voodoo hardware (e.g. Banshee) if you really wanted to.
Agreed with you, I got a cheap copy of the game on PS2 and it's subpar compared to the PC version that I had back in the day. A major issue for me was the controls and frame rate - I think the game played best with a mouse and keyboard and was primarily a PC game with console ports. Oddly I played Max Payne 3 on the XBox 360 and enjoyed that one - maybe it was designed primarily as a console game?
When it comes to the console ports, obviously the Xbox versions stand shoulders above the rest. If you still have the disc for Max Payne 1 or 2 on OG Xbox, you can put them in an Xbox One X or Xbox Series X console and enjoy them in 4K resolution in addition to the other X-enhanced features. And if you don’t own the discs, they’re readily available on the Xbox Store for cheap. Try playing your Max Payne PS2 discs in your PS5…
I generally prefer PS2's shaper unfilitered output over Xbox when the devs don't ruin ps2 with software filters. Going off this footage I am glad i had the xbox versions though because the ps2 fps looks bad.
Ahh, the Era of 3D GBA ports. Back when Tony hawks and Crash Bandicoots reigned supreme... I'm surprised Rockstar never reused this engine for a gta spinoff!
As someone who's had it on both PS2 and Xbox, its a night and day difference between them and in the case of PAL regions its 576i 50hz(PS2) vs 480i 60hz(Xbox) so the PS2 version runs even slower than it already did. Also the Xbox version looks and runs even better now that it's backwards compatible on the Series X, which I'm thankful for as I recently broke the disc tray on my OG Xbox trying to replace the rubber band on the eject mechanism :(
Back in November when Xbox made all 3 games BC I blasted through all 3... my personal favorite 3rd person shooter of all time. Eat your heart out Gears, MP is the GOAT. Cannot freakin WAIT for the remakes :)
Of course the GBA hands downright SLAPS!!! I remember when ports of games were more original in their approach if the hardware is underpowered. I much preferred recreations/demakes like this rather than a 720p 30fps Switch Port aka a fucken rip off. Take Star Wars the Force Unleased for example. Collecting all of the ports made your game library really special as each version of the game was really unique from one another.
Seems like the image is better on ps2, but the scale ratio of objects is better on xbox. Gba is obviously the best one with the most powerful hardware in comparison.

I personally grew up on the Xbox versions on MP 1 and 2. Still a blast of a game to this day.

GBA is an EXCELLENT transcription from the original. The only thing it lacks is the first scene and the dream sequences.

PS5: Error reading disc
Xbox version is superior. Runs like 60 fps. On the other hand PS2 draw distance is better, but framerate is like 50% worse than Xbox's.

Man, I hope for the remake we get PS2's lighting and brightness, Xbox's performance, and GBA's graphics :D
lmao what

GBA version was actually pretty decent. Sure, a lot got cut in the transition, and offscreen enemies could be annoying, but it was still a fun game.
It’s good played it not good as real game but still fun n kinda 1 2 1 mines graphics
Xbox is clearly superior on this game. At least for the real game. GABA is… special.
The cool thing with the xbox version is the backward compatibility on One/ Series. The game looks better than ever now

Great job as always :) The PS2 version holds up really well apart from the frame rate :)
how is the XBox version blurrier and has lesser draw distance ?!
Remember guys, they are remaking 1 and 2. 😮💨
Can’t wait 🥹
did you use motion adaptive deinterlacing on the ps2, i feel this game can really use it lol
yes
Never played these.
Not sure I will the remakes either. Loved Max Payne 3 though, the whole drunkard, washed up cop thing worked for me.
For weapons the sound goes to the PS2 but I'll take xbox for graphics.

Play on Next gen Xbox’s for the ultimate console experience!
Xbox >>>>>>>>>>Ps2
The PS2 runs like crap but otherwise looks about the same.
Xbox wins 😊
