You can definitely tell the woes that devs had early on with the PS2. The performance and visuals are pretty significantly impacted between the two versions. The Xbox is the more powerful console to be certain, but the PS2 was able to produce MGS3 (coupled with its share of frame rate problems in intense scenes) which looked almost next gen when it came out. So, it's always interesting to see these games early in the PS2s lifespan struggle to make the most of Sony's famously convoluted hardware. You can look up the difficulties there yourself. We went on to see the same story play out with the PS3 and Xbox 360. With the 360 have a significantly faster GPU, however the margin was narrowed when devs finally learned how to use the SPEs and use more of the Blu-Ray Discs storage to lighten the GPU load with uncompressed assets. With how complex Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us were for their time, while the GPU from the 360 might have been able to make it work, there was no way that the 360's CPU was going to manage that level of complexity.
remember that PS2 was hard to program, so many games like MAX PAYNE, didn't use properly the 2 Vector Units for better performance. PS2 CPU was a little bit more capable than XBOX CPU, but that's all. XBOX still destroys PS2 in the hardware apartment, it simply was way more powerful. In instances you’re claiming the PS2 “looks sharper” are all instances the PS2 is lacking shadows. The water is also frozen. It’s ice - not water. In instances you say “the textures look better on PS2 is because there’s no dynamic lighting to portray depth. Everything on PS2 has the depths of puddles, which ruins the atmosphere. Everything is lit the exact same way. It’s oversaturated as a result, which is a shame, considering Max Payne was the new height of 3D environments in a video game at that time.
@@MuseBySecrecy Well, if something is looking to blurry, then it does. In moste scenes I mentione,d the XBOXversion is looking so extremely blurry, taht the image even loses detail. For example you cannot make out the pattern of the carpets, and instead just can see brighter and darker 'stains'. The reasons don't really matter. Even if the XBOX was calculating next week's lottery numbers in the background while rendering blurry scenes (which would for sure be a great feature and so on.), these scenes would still look worse to me than overall similar scenes which are more crispy. And usually shadows rarely are important enough for the overall subjective visual impression to compensate for a lack of detail.
@@KnucklesWTD Hello! I have read and watched countless 'best of's and discovered two games I liked since: 1. Crimson Skies 2. Conker Yes, both where great, especially CrimsonSkies is a class of it's own and looks like a 360 game with widescreen patch. Sadly I haven't found anything else to come even close .. I also tired Ninja Gaiden Black and Panzer Dragoon, but both wheren't my kind of taste (I'm not into that Asian stuff, and I can't stand rail shooters in general).. I also tried mech assault for some time, which was OK, but not not entertaining for too long. Then there was an UBoat arcade game which was way too 'shallow' for my needs, and some other airfighting game, which seemes like it was the same game but in the skies
Xbox looks clearly better, just i wish that the xbox version upgrades the character models like GTA games, but for the rest is better, better antialiasing, lighting, shadows, ice and water effects and a clearly better audio quality and resolution
My honest opinion as a fanboy well I grew up with the ps2 version which is Intense and fun even for a 10 year old but the Xbox version is a win. PS2 had better Action Packed games
Sure it looks better, but uuhm in all honestly xbox is becoming harder to find, also spare parts and third party controllers not to mention it's 3x the price of any ps2 game since it was less popular at the time, so ill vote PS2 for retro gaming and Xbox for collecting
the only reason games didn't look as good on ps2 as they did on Xbone is because of lazy programming the ps2 was fully able to have better looking games
If u don't mind touch control's max payne mobile is an excellent port that looks waaaaay better than both these versions and plays at a better fps and u can toggle visual settings. Hell even gta sa looks better on my phone than my xbox one x.
Will you compare the GBA , Android and iOS versions with the console versions ; Max Payne on the GBA is almost a completely different experience...the opening area is cut and there are no dream sequences ?! 🍻🍸☕🍮🗽🚕
It might be Xbox 360 BC but I'd find Xbox version to have worse controls than PS2 version the dead zone are bigger on that version than PS2 version when turned both sensitivity to max PS2 almost felt like mouse level of fast, Even if it looks quite a lot better I do not enjoy how it controls on Xbox at all. Sound are better but output tend to varied a lot from each retry.
9 times out of 10 Xbox port will look better than a PS2 port. Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits is one of the few special cases but even then that’s cause the whole game was designed with PS2 in mind while Xbox was just an after thought. Usually that’s the only time PS2 does better is when the designers don’t put much effort into a Xbox port.
+Owen Krauss I think it's because the game is emulated to work on Xbox 360. This is what I found wikipedia: "Minor graphic issues right after saving, does not last, nor does it hinder gameplay. Minor slowdown during some busy moments." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360
Xbox emulations is pretty sucky on the 360. The only game I encountered no major problems with (that means no crashes and framerate drops) was Sonic Heroes. It has some weird black lines in the menus 'n stuff but that's about it.
Ps2 win, sure the Xbox has better graphics but that's it, the font was stupid, it was a Payne to like anywhere besides up down left and right, you couldn't even load a level and just start playing... instant win for ps2
Oh and textures are better on Xbox in places as well along with having AA since the PS2 has no AA so it has lots of jaggies. For this game PC and Xbox is the way to go.
Yeah, except where the Xbox version has a much smoother framerate (most important, affects gameplay), better color depth, textures, resolution, anti-aliasing, lighting effects, more particle effects like snowflakes and bullets during slow-mo (very important, affects the atmosphere of the game). PS2 even screws up the graphic novel scenes, another crucial component.
You won't need to. It's on Sale on Xbox One/Series X for $9. All Three Games. Game is gorgeous. I've had the PS2 version. It's my first time playing the Xbox Version
I remember taking apart an Xbox and a ps2 and seeing the difference in build quality between the two. The PlayStation didn’t use those round cylindrical resistors and capacitors, it used square resistors and capacitors. When my Xbox shit the bed either those round cylindrical resistors or capacitors melted down. You can tell that people manually soldered in components on the Xbox where as ps2 was machine assembled by Sony leaving less chances of errors to happen. Sony builds a better product, or I should say more reliable product, Microsoft’s hardware performs better but it’s not reliable.
Actually in console build quality back in the day ps2 had a lot disc drive errors and while the gc and xbox were generally built like tanks. Xbox mostly have good capacitors expect the clock one. PS2 early models had some issues. GC generally had none.
+Justin Osborne Actually Max Payne was originally created for PC. It was in development before the PS2 was even announced and was shown at E3 1998. Also, its rendering engine was used for 3DMark 2001SE, a PC-only benchmarking software. Being essentially made of PC parts, and being far more powerful than the PS2, the Xbox was automatically better at running Max Payne.
I prefer the Xbox version (yes I own both versions). It feels smoother, as noticed here some of the sound effects are better, the frame rate's better, and you can quicksave.

And usually shadows rarely are important enough for the overall subjective visual impression to compensate for a lack of detail.
Idk how can you struggle to find games on it when it has gems like panzer dragoon orta, ninja gaiden black, conker, jet set radio, etc lol
@@KnucklesWTD Hello! I have read and watched countless 'best of's and discovered two games I liked since: 1. Crimson Skies 2. Conker
Yes, both where great, especially CrimsonSkies is a class of it's own and looks like a 360 game with widescreen patch.
Then there was an UBoat arcade game which was way too 'shallow' for my needs, and some other airfighting game, which seemes like it was the same game but in the skies
xbox has many good games. play mortal kombat shaolin monks, splinter cell, the warriors, rayman 3, prince of persia warrior within
Xbox looks clearly better, just i wish that the xbox version upgrades the character models like GTA games, but for the rest is better, better antialiasing, lighting, shadows, ice and water effects and a clearly better audio quality and resolution
I was thinking that my ps2 is have some problem in reading disc, then i saw this video i feel glad haha
My honest opinion as a fanboy well I grew up with the ps2 version which is Intense and fun even for a 10 year old but the Xbox version is a win.
PS2 had better Action Packed games
Most beautiful intro
Sure it looks better, but uuhm in all honestly xbox is becoming harder to find, also spare parts and third party controllers not to mention it's 3x the price of any ps2 game since it was less popular at the time, so ill vote PS2 for retro gaming and Xbox for collecting
Xbox por mucho!
Wow i did not knew how bad the ps2 port was downgraded, while the xbox version looked very similar to the pc version
Embora no Xbox seja mais escuro, é muito mais detalhado que o ps2
honestamente, o jogo sendo mais escuro ajuda muito bem para a ambientação
I have not played this game in over 15 years. Wow#
I wonder what the dreamcast version would be like....
the only reason games didn't look as good on ps2 as they did on Xbone is because of lazy programming the ps2 was fully able to have better looking games
The intro
xbox max illumination effects
Between Xbox version and Ps2 version of Max Payne Xbox is better with the quicksave and more areas you can explore
I don’t know why I searched this up but now I’m going to be sad going back to my ps2 copy :(
If u don't mind touch control's max payne mobile is an excellent port that looks waaaaay better than both these versions and plays at a better fps and u can toggle visual settings. Hell even gta sa looks better on my phone than my xbox one x.
Will you compare the GBA , Android and iOS versions with the console versions ; Max Payne on the GBA is almost a completely different experience...the opening area is cut and there are no dream sequences ?! 🍻🍸☕🍮🗽🚕
xbox wins
Fatality
:v
no
Xbox have better animations, textures, graphics, higher resolution and better fps so XBOX is the winner and this is coming out of a PS2 owner!
It might be Xbox 360 BC but I'd find Xbox version to have worse controls than PS2 version the dead zone are bigger on that version than PS2 version when turned both sensitivity to max PS2 almost felt like mouse level of fast,
Even if it looks quite a lot better I do not enjoy how it controls on Xbox at all.
And MGS2
Redgrave Flame yes very true also
I love playstation , but you can't argue that the xbox looks so much better.
can you walk in Max Payne? if you move the left thumb stick a little? or can you only run
Not sure. I have to check it out.
Only run.
After dark theme song..lance henrickson
Weird, the frame rate was super choppy for me on the Xbox version. I downloaded it on my 360, is that why?
Yes, it sucks. Just use the og xbox with component cables to play your og xbox games. Or get one, you can buy them for about twenty bucks.
Try it on a Series X/S or Xbox One now. Its pretty solid minus the 4:3 aspect ratio
XBOX WINS, PERFECT VICTORY, FATALITY
the graphics look better in the xbox, but the ps2 beat the shit out of xbox and any other console
no actually the xbox verdion beats the ps2 version its probably his capture cause the game is better on my tv
+gustavor V The PS2 was an overhyped shit.
Arron Harrington me and over 200 million of people who bought the ps2 disagree with you
gustavor V Not everybody who bought the PS2 was happy with. Also most people bought it because of the built in DVD player.
Arron Harrington admit it, your parents didn't buy you a ps2 back then, and now you hate it
Sony always donated because of power
Is the Xbox version also the Mobile version?
I think the mobile version was based on the original PC version.
+Doctor Bane Oh...
+Android Player I think.
Very little difference to be honest. You wouldn't be missing out on anything by choosing a particular version over the other.
the water was just lines on the ps2 and the xbox was a bit dark but it was a night and dark game and the xbox had a better fps
Ps2 win, sure the Xbox has better graphics but that's it, the font was stupid, it was a Payne to like anywhere besides up down left and right, you couldn't even load a level and just start playing... instant win for ps2
Whitepony 33 You wrong
Whitepony 33 did you even play the right version
I expected a huge difference. This is pretty much identical, only the colours are different for some reason.
That, and goo ocean vs blanket ocean.
Shadows, load times and framerate are better on Xbox as well.
I need to get my hands on an original Xbox asap
You won't need to. It's on Sale on Xbox One/Series X for $9. All Three Games. Game is gorgeous. I've had the PS2 version. It's my first time playing the Xbox Version
Get yourself a PC
@@satnav1980 why? why everybody have to play pc?
@@waterheart95 GameCube might be the most durable console disc console of all time tbh
Max Payne was originally created for the PS2. 99% of games looked better on Xbox anyway. Try comparing Max Payne 2 between Xbox and PS2.
It was also in development for the Dreamcast too.
