The more stable frame rate of the N64 version over PS1 makes a big difference for me. Of course including Dreamcast almost makes it not fair. Makes me want that version too.

The Dreamcast version blew my mind at the time, but I think looking back now I prefer the look of the PSX version. I like the gritty look and pixelly textures. The DC version had 30FPS as a bullet point on the back of the CD case :D Funny how things change, I can't stand 30fps anymore but back then, compared to the PSX version it was a godsend

Dreamcast IS the best version period. Ps1 looks much better than N64, much detail is lost in there

@@superbn0va but it's very pixely which we didn't like at the time. the controls are slightly better with the ps1 controller but I must say that i really liked the n64 controls too. Smoothness is also cooler, so at the end i prefer N64>PS1

    Which version do you prefer?
Small correction because of a typo: 2:18min Dreamcast version resolution is 640x480p
There is also Ngage version of Tony Hawk. This version is based on PS1 with lower resolution, decreased field of view and some removed content.

The Dreamcast was short changed by not having Tony Hawk 3, even if it was just released in the USA where Sega sold a fair few DC consoles.
I had my first experience with this game on the PlayStation and loved it, was certainly a franchise born for a Playstation controller but all three versions are very playable once you get used to each controller method.

I believe the expansion pack was a scam...I remember reading that it really didn't do anything. I mean, I had one when they first released just as I got my Dreamcast the day it came out. I heard it was a pass through and games like Perfect Dark (as an example) simply detected it which enabled us to play the entire game. It's been so long but I do remember something was fishy about the whole thing. Gamers were taking them apart and they were hollow...I can't remember.
At any rate, no matter how you slice it...expansion pack or no, the Dreamcast was a far superior machine. I mean, it was a full generation ahead of the N64 and did go toe-to-toe with the PS2 for graphical superiority even winning many times. Everything from its architecture, speed, efficiency, ect was all bleeding edge when it released on 9/9/99. That sucker at $199.99 threw down with the best PC gaming had to offer when it came out. Of course within a few months the PC market passed it by but for awhile it truly was King of The Hill.
Addendum- I remember that first night 9/9/99 both my roommate and I got our Dreamcasts. We set up two TV's in our living room, two Dreamcasts, invited a bunch of friends over, called off of work, and played the best gaming had to offer over a 3 day weekend. Between us we had two copies of Soul Caliber, NFL2K, The House of The Dead 2, 2 copies of Power Stones, Ready 2 Rumble, Hydro Thunder, and Sonic Adventure. We each wound up buying two more games (1 each) that Saturday afternoon. He got Airforce Delta and I Blue Stinger. What a freaking weekend!

Some games didn´t use the pack to increase rendering resolution but to increase the color depth, from 16 bit to 24bit, and some others, like this game, use it to improve the framerate a little bit.

The N64 version could have been better graphically speaking, but making games for the N64 was much more expensive due to the materials and components of the cartridge. And yes, I know that this is not the game that more squeezes the N64.

The Dreamcast was in a league of its own when it launched. It represented the biggest leap forward in graphical fidelity that we as gamers had ever witnessed. The move from the 5th to the 6th gen brought with it so many incredible things that no generation before or after it came close...until very recently. It wasn't until the launch of the 9th generation that we're finally seeing true photo realism in games. For those that have not witnessed the Matrix Experience Demo I urge you to check it out on a 9th generation console while being played on a 4K screen...it will drop your jaw too the floor much like the Dreamcast did back in 9/9/99.

Yes! That is where we are at, but not for long. Microsoft and Sony have finally stated they are done with the 8th. For example, all of Microsoft's 2024 Showcase were only 9th generation games. Now, we will see what these machines can finally do, and technically, it started with the 2.12 update of Cyberpunk 2077. The expansion pack that dropped a few months ago was designed solely for the 9th generation and up. That last patch...wow.
