The woman you see in the video is Tawny Kitean. She was the girlfriend of lead singer David Coverdale at the time. She was in a couple of movies in the '80s, especially "Bachelor Party". She also was in other music videos of Whitesnake, "Is This Love" and "Here I Go Again". She passed away recently in 2021.
Also, Whitesnake was very big in 1987 when this album came out. It's SOLID from start to finish. "Crying in the Rain" is amazing, but of course besides this son, "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" were the biggest hits. Amazing band.

Aileen , a little background for you about this song and the album its from. In this video no one you see as band members played one note of this song. Singer David Coverdale is the only one. The album's band consisted of guitarist and co - writer of the album John Sykes , bassist Neil Murray , drummer Aynsley Dunbar and keyboardist Don Airey. After the album was finished being recorded Coverdale fired the band. Sykes found out he was fired by getting a letter in the mail. For the videos and tour to support the album Coverdale handpicked the band you see in this video - Vivian Campbell (Dio) - guitar , Adrian Vandenberg (Vandenberg) - guitar , Rudy Sarzo ( Quiet Riot , Ozzy Osbourne) - bass , Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne , Black Oak Arkansas) - drums. The part in the video where Adrian Vandenberg is using a violin bow is just for looks , that part was never played with a bow. Coverdale used a cello patch on a keyboard to get that effect. On the album track "Here I Go Again" Adrian Vandenberg played the guitar solo after Sykes refused to fly back to L. A. to re-record the solo. Coverdale didn't like the solo Sykes laid down but Sykes was happy with the solo. He had already returned to England and saw no need to fly back for one solo.

David Coverdale (lead vocals) of Whitesnake is a legendary vocalist... he got his start as the singer of Deep Purple in 1974 until 1976. He formed the band Whitesnake in the late 70's from his solo career... 'Still of the night' was released in 1987 from the self-titled 'Whitesnake' album, co-written by guitarist John Sykes (who was fired before this video was filmed) and became a huge hit... It was compared to Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page actually loved the song (David Coverdale and Jimmy Page would record 1 album together in 1993 - 'Coverdale. Page') ... but singer Robert Plant hated it; he derogatorily called the Whitesnake singer 'David Coverversion' in an interview.
The video featured model/ actress Tawny Kitaen, who also did 2 more Whitesnake videos - 'Is this love' ... 'Here I go again'... and soon married David Coverdale... He wrote the Whitesnake song "Kitten's got claws" ...about her... They split up in 1990 and Tawny Kitaen eventually passed away in 2021 at age 59... She appeared in the 1984 music video 'Back for more' by Ratt when she was dating (late) Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby and was the model on the cover of Ratt's '84 album 'Out of the cellar'.
David Coverdale was an unknown British singer when he was hired by Deep Purple in 1974 to replace their singer Ian Gillan... His subsequent Purple albums 'Burn' and 'Stormbringer' ... were huge hits. However, after guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1975, the band hired guitarist Tommy Bolin for 1 album 'Come taste the band'... but it failed commercially. After a disastrous tour marred by death and drug abuse, Deep Purple split up in 1976.
David Coverdale launched a solo career in 1977 (2 albums - 'Northwinds' and 'Whitesnake') and eventually called his new band Whitesnake (jokingly after his 'thang' 🐍 😂) in 1978 and debuted the album 'Trouble'... Whitesnake would record a number of albums and tour Europe successfully before breaking big in Japan in the 80's... America was proving a tough sell and none of their records were out there.
In 1984, Whitesnake's 6th album 'Slide it in' finally got a US release and the band were ready for the big time in 1986 by re-recording some of their songs for the 'Whitesnake' album... However, Coverdale decided to fire the entire band and hire a new line-up of Whitesnake as the album was being finished... it sold 8x platinum in 1987 w/ MTV promoting the band (which was different from the record)
In 1989, Whitesnake released 'Slip of the tongue'... which was co-written w/ guitarist Adrian Vandenberg, but an injury resulted in virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai playing on the record and joining the band... The album sold platinum w/ hits like - 'Wings of the storm'... "Now you're gone"... 'Judgement day"... But after Coverdale's split from wife Tawny Kitaen, he disbanded Whitesnake in 1991.
In 1993, David Coverdale and Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page released a successful album 'Coverdale. Page'... but Jimmy Page opted to reunite w/ Zeppelin singer Robert Plant in 1994 as Plant & Page... Coverdale attempted more solo albums, but none were as successful.
In 2002, David Coverdale reformed Whitesnake and began touring and recording successfully... He was planning a final tour recently, but health issues have forced him off the road and he has yet to announce any plans to return.

You should check out their song Slow and Easy. The 80's when every long haired teenager worked their asses off so you could afford to go to all the concerts seemed like there was a major band coming through every week. Big hair big sound = big fun at the concerts.. last fun decade of music the 80's and talent everywhere. Sure some of the outfits were a bit outrageous but there were so many good and great bands you had to come up with something that made you stand out from the rest .

    Here I Go Again
    Is This Love
    Slow an Easy
    Slide It In
    Fool For Your Lovin'
Give Me All Your Love Tonight
    Deeper The Love
Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City (older song. More bluesey)

I know a lot of people will ask for Here I Go Again...which is a great song...but I would love to see you react to Slide It In which was from the album before this one. They had some great songs...and this was a Super Group of players at the time. Tommy Aldridge on Drums from Ozzy's first couple albums, Rudy Sarzo on Bass from Quiet Riot, Mark Guiffrea from Guiffrea on Guitar (He used the bow), and Vivian Campbell from Dio's first couple of solo albums and is now with Def Leppard. David Coverdale is the singer who did a stint in Rainbow for a time. The female was Tawny Kitaen an actress who later married Coverdale. She had a few movies...the first that comes to mind was "Bachelor Party" with Tom Hanks. I saw them in Los Angeles supporting this album opening for Motley Crue on their Girls, Girls, Girls tour. Great memories
Edit: Ack...not Guiffrea...the other guitarist was Mark Vendenberg who had a band called Vandenberg before this...and Coverdale was from Deep Purple not Rainbow.

The guitarist in the band was John Sykes. He was not in the video, as he was fired after the recording. John Sykes formed a band called Blue Murder with Tony Franklin of The Firm and Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge. Valley of the Kings blew a lot of people away., but the label didn't support them since they were on the same label as Whitesnake who were far more established, and already making the label money.

Also saw John Sykes, who was in Whitesnake, do this with Blue Murder, a hard rocking 3 piece with Sykes on guitar and vocals along with the great Carmine Appice on drums and Tony Franklin of the Firm on killer bass. This is still one of my favorite rock songs of 80’s. The breakdown and rebuild were unique for the period. Then they give you an outro which also wasn’t common. Coverdale was a veteran singer as he started in the late 1960’s. I believe this was 1986 when it came out.

    Excellent review!
The first part of the song (until 4:50 ) IMHO is the wolf (the singer as revealed later in the song) sniffing around the door - gaining his confidence and seducing his mate. At 4:50 in your review the song begins to build the angst of desire taking the lust to a point of being carnal. As the guitar plays a low, compressed note (E, I believe) with tremolo, the listener gets pulled into a pit of desire that is filled with empty space with a fringe of noises that teases the subconscious mind. As the bridge continues, the void is filled with the singer’s voice and the rhythmic tapping of cymbals and snare drums that keep the listener waiting with bated breath for these tickling sounds to usher in the change that usually accompany these markers but the listener’s desire has now become frustration.
Then, the guitar sounds and acts like a lifeline that leads the listener from their pit of frustration to a light of confidence. Once the song returns to the main riff and ever higher octaves from the singer, the listener can hear the confidence of the singer now exclaiming, “Get over here, baby!” and, “I’ll be sneaking around your door!”.
    Again, great review!
