The storyline in this game was just UNBELIEVABLY phenomenal. So well written, multi-faceted and exciting to the very end. The mystery behind her identity, her past, her family, and the unreal dynamic between herself and her so-called allies. That was some crazy, complex sh*t. As a 6 year old, I appreciated every single bit of that. I just do not understand HOW they could abandon such a masterful work. Oni for its time was UNTOUCHABLE. Still to this day, it's in a league of its own! 💯 I'll probably never happen, but I Hope Bungi West revisits this game. I never stopped hoping that this would get a sequel. This sh*t was TOO GOOD

Some will say it's a ghost in the shell knockoff but for pc this was sublime action and martial arts. The aesthetics are futuristic and cool like neon-colored skyscrapers and cyber implants superpowers. It's like the fifth element a lot.

The gameplay was a little hard to get used to but perfecting this games controls made a lot of future 3rd person games a lot easier for me. Man I spent about 45 minutes trying to find the name of this game. My grandpa bought a ps2 at the time this game had come out and I used to go to his house to help him beat certain sections of it. He was maybe 62/63 when this came out.
developers back then cared so much about game mechanics , so many melee combos , the enemies also pickup random dropped guns to shoot you, japan was so ahead in gaming industry. So lucky to play this game in my childhood

It was the first game that I experienced that had an Ghost in the Shell/AD Police aesthetic. I actually found my original Copy in storage years ago, and was shocked I still had it. They don't make games like they used to anymore.
I remember buying this game, because I liked the cover, but I never played it. Instead my younger brother gravitated towards it and eventually beat it. He was actually very good at the game. I remember watching him playing but never got the story. I still have the PC disks for the game and I think I may have the PS2 version as well. Always wondered why this game never got a sequel, maybe it was too close to Ghost in the Shell. Twenty years is a long time but franchise have risen from the grave before, maybe another developer will pick up this IP sometime in the future and give this game new life.

For a 2001 game, the character movement is a literal eye candy, smoother than 90% of games in the console gen. Even the animations look extremely fluid, although the gunplay looks weird
I love this game! I played it on the PS2 back in 2004 and it was the first time I was introduced to a true badass female protagonist, lol. I wanted to be like Konoko! She was so unique in terms of her combat ability and you don't ever see that in other games anymore. It's a fever dream, but a remake of this game would be awesome!
@@trynagetuppp Yes. A 3 min mp3 file in crappy 128kbps quality often took me 25 minutes to download in 2001, when I had my first pc with internet connection. Technically a faster speed was possible (maybe 5 times?), but these rates where never really reached. You can imagine how many people wanted to download the Oni demo and this affected the possible download speed.
Imagine if this game got a remaster. This game could not only look amazing with modern cel shaded graphics (leaning into the Anime ascetic) but it would also make this game available to a whole new audience. I so want to play this game, but trying to set it up is a pain on my PC that I just gave up. And to those who say "just get the PS2 version", Bungie dev's have stated that the PS2 port from Rockstar is awful.

The best part of this game is when you beat it, you can use a cheatcode to play as any character in the game with their abilities. It made for the best New Game + ever. Imagine Dark Souls after you beat it, you can turn into any enemy in the game and play as them.

This game was absolutely haunting when I was a kid. Freaking loved it! So underrated. I remember the cheat codes and being able to turn into transformed murro or basically any toon in the game. The closest thing to this in recent times is possibly Sleeping Dogs.
Agreed on this, an idea I had if it was possible is for Oni to have different fighting styles, like imagine Konoko going from Sambo or Muay Thai to Jeet Kune Do, and also add melee weapons Gotta say, the gameplay of the sequel does look cool, even if the art style looks different (like with Konoko now looking like she's in a Timesplitters game)

This game was absolutely haunting when I was a kid. Freaking loved it! So underrated. I remember the cheat codes and being able to turn into transformed murro or basically any toon in the game. The closest thing to this in recent times is possibly Sleeping Dogs.

bungies minor masterpiece of a brawler. one of the best combat systems. great atmosphere and music. should've received a sequel.
Agreed on this, an idea I had if it was possible is for Oni to have different fighting styles, like imagine Konoko going from Sambo or Muay Thai to Jeet Kune Do, and also add melee weapons
Gotta say, the gameplay of the sequel does look cool, even if the art style looks different (like with Konoko now looking like she's in a Timesplitters game)
