I'd return the Vanity Fair book and have Barnes and Nobles give you one that isn't filthy. That's B.S. that they sent it to you that way.

My collection is all over the place🤣 I have Canterbury classics I also have some of the Barnes and Noble classics and Everyman’s library they are my favorites the books just have superb quality and they look really good in the bookshelf! I also have some Macmillan collectors library books. I also have a few of the flame tree collectible classics but those are tiny no bigger than an average hand ! They are good for on the go reading but look kinda out of place next to the bigger books😂 This has become an addiction of buying all the classics I don’t know when to stop there are so many of them and I’m running out of space on my book shelf but I can’t resist a book😩

I’d love to see you compare your barnes and noble collection to your penguin clothbound classics. I’ve been collecting barnes and noble classics for over a decade and now I’m thinking about selling them to start a penguin clothbound classics collection haha

@@brandyriley2 thank you! I would like to see a comparison of the font size, paper quality, durability of the cover and binding and I’m curious to know if you are leaving the barcode sticker on the back since I heard it leaves a stain on the cloth and damages the print

I've JUST started my leather bound collection.. I started with An Encyclopedia of Tolkien by David Day, it's a Canterbury Classic, beautiful book with ribbon book mark and golden gilded pages.. I have now an addiction lol, I have The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection in one volume by Barnes and Noble in the mail now it will be here tomorrow, over 1000 pages with all four novels and 56 short stories.. My next purchase will be the Arabian Nights B&N Leather Bound, can't wait... I've actually had to start my whole book collection over bc I sadly lost a lot of books in a house fire about 10 years ago.. Although it's a sad thing its given me the opportunity to start a really nice collection so.. silver linings lol

The Arabian nights is one of the best ones they have. Still regret not buying it over Canterbury Arabian nights. I have the Barnes and nobles Grimm's fairy tales. That one is also great but i wish it didn't have the sticker thing on the cover. The Poeh and Lovecraft ones also have that. Who thought it was a good idea wtf

@@brandyriley2 Hard to say honestly. Even among the same collection there are big differences, some have bw or even color illustrations, and beautiful themed adornments on the pages while others don't and are rather plain. Some have really thick silky smooth paper while others are super thin and flimsy. Not all Canterbury and or Barnes and Nobles books are the same.
Generally Barnes and nobles uses better versions. Have illustrations. Nice themed headers etc.
Canterbury uses thinner paper and usually has no illustrations. But sometimes does like the beautiful Canterbury Tolkien encyclopedia I have.
I like Canterbury spines a lot better since they aren't too busy like some Barnes spines. But Barnes spines are all unique while CC all have the same design (except the Tolkien encyclopedia)
Barnes and Nobles books seem to have more durable bonded leather covers. The Canterbury ones will damage and chip just by placing them on the shelf and removing them a few times. (Esp at the bottom etc). But the Canterbury ones seem to have far better edge gilding. Which is mindboggling. The Barnes ones come in plastic while CC doesn't.. And so far they've all come with damaged gilding. The Canterbury have so far had far smoother and better gilding on the edges despite worse packaging. The Canterbury seems open flat with ease. Barnes needs to be stretched a little. I think because Barnes generally uses thicker paper.
Both aren't perfect and honestly it depends on the cover, contents and if it has illustrations. Generally I'd pick Barnes if it has illustrations. But honestly ad I said it changes per book and I just get the version I like most on the majority of cases.
That said. Although I immensely enjoy reading these versions because their covers and weight feel so substantial. They are very easily damaged. And I'd caution people to be careful while reading. I honestly feel like a slightly moist or clammy hand could easily damage or ruin part of the cover for any of these in a few reading sessions.

I don’t know if you have since opened war and peace, but would you be able to share if the quality of the book holds up even while reading? I’ve heard some issues with the penguin editions that pages can fall out or the design rubs off.

Hello Rebecca! First thank you for taking the time to watch my video. I really appreciate it! The Barnes & Noble Collectible editions are more durable than the Penguin Clothbounds. I have found no issues with pages falling out or cover design come off from the B&N books. However, the B&N books are very heavy and can strain your hand while reading. I find it more comfortable reading the B&N books placed on my lap or on a desk. The B&N Collectibles are the most robust books I have ever owned! The Penguin Clothbounds require more gentle handling in order to keep them in perfect condition. The design on the covers do rub off. It is almost inevitable. I have not had problems with pages falling out. Also, the ribbon bookmarks do fray at the ends. I find that the more I read my Penguin Clothbounds, the more wear it shows. That maybe part of the design concept itself. I personally don't mind the worn book look. However, I do understand that some people may feel differently due to the cost of each book. I hope that answers your questions. If you have anymore, please feel free to ask! :) xx Brandy
