I own a pair, and the volume of bass output is not only astonishing for the size, and they are large for a "bookshelf", but amazing in general, needs loads of power to do it mind you. The people commenting based on the sound of the clip obviously have heard them irl, and/or misunderstand the limitations of YT reproduction when it comes to speaker videos.
I am thinking about an upgrade to my existing KEF3´s and I am not sure what I can expect in term of bonus togo to the Ref1 or better to the Ref3? Some weeks ago I also got a taste of Borreson loudspeakers, the Z1 and the Z5, well I have to admit, I was stunned very hard - the performance was excellent, but sadly the price tag, too 😮. I like the sound of my R3´s very much, but there is the wish to a little more punch and presence in the lower regions.
Was not expecting to hear Losing It! These speakers need a sub to properly separate the lows from the mids. The contrast and impact of the bass is totally lost. Glad to hear some edm on the channel though.
I own the 2019-2021 version Reference 1's and power them with a Luxman L-505uX Mk2 integrated amp. A match made in heaven. Bass output measured in my room is even and smooth right down to 30hz!!
Nice video, Sommelier! The virtual sound image and bass response change really close with the camera movements if you see it with the screen in between the speakers. One thing that intrigues me: more and more, concentric drivers and ported cabinets (despite their price point) are now the name of the game. I can see why coaxial drivers are used (normally, the imaging and sound stage are improved), but the almost dissapeared from the market of sealed box designs is confusing for me: more bass response in reflex speakers is merely apparent (it isn't really low freq, but upper resonant bass reinforcement wjth tendency to boomy character) and the positioning in the listening room is problematic, whilst sealed boxes has more tight controlled deep bass and are easier to locate.
Which base port did you use for this video, long or short? I just made this purchase and am breaking in the speakers. Your video sounds like you have opted for the short tube which provides better dynamics vs the long port which provides a deeper base response?
In my two listening experiments with this video (one with KEF Q300 coaxial speakers, the second with AKG K1000 headphones) I haven't had by no means this impression. Don't know, of course, what your listening equipment and circumstances has been. But I'm very intrigued because of your comment. Cheers.
ventura rodríguez vallejoh hi there, listened through Tannoy kingdom royals and m900 luxman Power amp, it’s bass is light and distorted I’m afraid. The drivers can’t cope. To reproduce bass naturally at that volume you need a bigger driver (in my humble opinion)
@@moonphaser3304 Hi. I don't doubt about your impressions. I take into account the inherent TH-cam imposes to sound quality, wich are no little, to say the less. In any case, I think only a REAL listening test can offer proper conclusions. Cheers.
this track is acutally not that bassy so.... When it does have bass, for short lenghts of time, it is really at the bottom of the frequency range like 20-25hz, in a way that even in my system with a sub it wasn't that bassy (My sub is rated at 30hz), it only really sounded bassy with headphones as all my hadphones can easily hit 20hz and even bellow for some of them. I don't think they're bass light, I just think that when the parts of the music that is actually bassy comes in they just can't play such low frequencies. I couldn't hear the distortion you talked about. I mean, there's purposeful distortion from the actual track playing, and there's room problems happenning as he moves around the room, as well as youtube compression artifacts, but when he's closer to the speakers they do very well, considering I'm listening to a youtube video. That said they're clearly not BassHead speakers, as they are clearly leaning towards a flat response. This does not mean bass light though.
You havent heard these in person lol. They are very polite, very smooth, most unlike many modern lean, thin and flat speakers. The Denon dcd1600 is quite a bright device, far more than its Marantz stablemates. The Luxman is stunningly built but has a cool, lean but fresh expansive sound lacking in rich tonal colour and perhaps thats what your hearing here. On top of that this is a digital recording of some techno which doesnt exactly warrant a £15000 system!
Great choice of track man! My only criticism is the speakers are poorly lit in your room, you cannot appreciate the style, design and colour of finish!
Pure Impulse,a Local hifi shop selling ex-Demo pair for $7,000 AU dollars roughly what you have written euros, they said they retailed for $12,999 A.U. dollars,I laughed when I read the Gumtree add
Theese speakers go really down, but just simulate bass. There’s no punch. Good bass but slow and smooth. Listen and check the difference between bass guitar and drum kick. I heard live and I loved them but not for such music.
thats why music sellers never turn on other music styles on them, but only classical and boring blues, and you never cant say how good or bad speakers are

Awesome adult playground
Excellent channel and videos, watching loads. What would your choice be for speakers and an amp - Budget 3000Euro? Thanks.
Excellent!!
Can u demo the dynaudio exite bookshelf?
Justin Jacob Yes! Sooner or later... ;-)
Wonder what those Contour 20s had to say about this.....
They’re really pushing that Lux amp. Used to own one and it takes some effort to get those needles to the right side of the scale ;-)

Beatiful ,nice
Are the speaker wires a banana plug connection, and what kind of wires must be used with these speakers??
when are you going to show the kef reference 3?

the guy who designed Lux amplifier is also a classical music lover, believe me.
Sweet!
Sounds bass light and distorted to me, luxman amp needs proper drivers to sound it’s best. Put a 12inch driver in.

Moon Phaser3 yeah IT sounds flat, distorted, without bass and depth on my tablet. What a crap speakers and Amp ( lol)

I was mistaken, thought there would be sound from bass guitar or double bass, would have been more "natural". But good video
Sounds good but yes im all about that bass so a sub would have made them sound SWEEET!!
Nice video! What kind of speaker cables are those?
Looks like WireWorld cables to me.
Calaf_72 Right!
I pulled up wire world speaker cables. Holy cow!
Unnecessary is what they are. A cable is a cable is a cable
