My Dad is a very hard worker and I always admired that but what I admired the most was that he’s turned down massive opportunities to be with us more because he said the life he already has with us was more valuable than any one that more money could buy him and I respected the heck out of him for it. Such a great topic to ponder. Thank you for being so open with it and starting the discussion!
In one word: Purpose. If you're making sacrifice make sure you are doing something you love, or for someone you love.
I didn’t see eye to eye with my Dad growing up, I was blessed with the opportunity to care for him during his end of days and got to understand what a great father and friend he always was. To all the men out there …. Be Great !!!!!
Man this hit hard and I definitely cried. I bust my ass relentlessly to provide for my family and win in life. To set that example for my kids and I've had these exact moments where my 5year old ask questions like this that crush me inside and tear my heart out. The kids don’t understand high performance intellectually, but they can sense and feel that you are doing the right thing. Just like they can sense or feel when you are away for the bars and other selfish pursuits.
Going to a bar and being successful to feed your ego are both the same thing- you are doing both for your own satisfaction
@@andreware6492 it's different. The result, yes, is satisfaction in both cases. But, going to a bar and drinking is easy and demands no pain. Being successful on the other hand, requires you to go through pain in order to achieve that success. Don't equate them.
@@georgeth4421 doesn't matter to a kid. Kid doesn't give a damn about what you're doing. The only thing they're tryna process is why they're not number 1. "But I'm doing this for you and your future", yeah, not every kid is going to understand that and most probably just hear another excuse as to why you're putting the kid last and not first.
Also, this is probably relative. Like if everyone's parents are there but yours isn't, that's gonna be a killer. However, if your Dad is winning and it brings you popularity, you're probably not gonna be too bothered.
@@monjier i'm not a father yet and I don't know that much, but until my 17 years of age, I only saw my father in the afternoon. I just said hello, how's it been and that was about it during the weekdays. In the weekend, not much interaction took place because of school. We went on vacation together as a family and interacted with him plenty. Anyway, long story short, I adore my father and now (I'm 21) we are closer than ever and I have come to appreciate what he did for us during my childhood. Again, I don't know I can just speculate. Also, it depends on the child. But that's about it. Peace.

Exactly
Stay strong hermano!! Dios te bendiga
Thanks Pat for sharing.
I used to work 7 days a week 98-04 to have what I wanted, provide for my family, buy a home and live life.
The site shutdown, got two other trades for the next 4 years or so.
Then started to build a career 10-16, and spent up to 5 nights away a week for that time.
Guilt
Then had a go at setting up a business 16-17 for work balance and no longer work for others.
It didn’t work out, the unemployment between contracts got longer, meaning having to face the man in the mirror more.
More guilt
Mental breakdown of so much stuff avoided whilst I kept getting back up trying to be the example for my kids.
Others close to me die, and have struggled to get back up for the last 4 years.
Now looking at starting out again after losing it all, with once again helping others through myself, instead of supporting others in their mission. Now mine can align with theirs as a separate entity.
That’s where I am at.
Virtual hug.
Thanks for leading the way and giving back.

Pat, every video you post packs such a powerful punch, and this one especially hits home for many families.
You are a wise person.
I appreciate this video, this is a topic that's rarely covered in the culture of working hard to accomplish big goals. My dad and I just reconnected after over a year of a falling out. Sometimes we don't understand why people do certain things until we go through an experience that helps us understand. I'm glad to say me and my dad are speaking again and I was able to better understand his point of view. I wouldn't be the man I am today without his influence, work ethic & love.

Thanks for sharing Patrick, this reminds me that a good parent should be busy building a future and setting an example no matter how difficult it can be. My 8 year old son also always wants to do things with me, but is very understanding when I'm too busy. Also the beautiful moments when you have conversations with your parents. You must cherish these because one day you will only have those memories. Very valuable to bring this up again. Thank you. As a single father that works full time, this message really hits a soft spot for me. There is always a certain amount of guilt I feel for not being able to spend more time with my son, which is magnified to some degree because of the added guilt of having to make up for his mother not being present. Its all a delicate balance of being an example of work ethic and day to day parenting. Showing your children that a father goes to work every day to provide for the family but also is around enough to answer all of the "but why?" and "how?" as well as build some legos from time to time.
Thanks for the message!
I just came across a paper my wife wrote of my then 6 year old daughters quotes.
One was “I wish everyday was Saturday so mom and dad can spend all day with me.”
God I would have loved nothing more!
I was working 7 days a week 12 to 15 hours a day to make ends meet.
My daughter learned how to walk when I was working in camp.
We have a nice home, my daughter has been all over the world on vacations, we’ve given her the best life we could but if I could do it all over again I’d spend every minute with that precious child because they really do grow up so fast and then they’re gone.
My daughter is still here but I’ll never see that beautiful 6 year old child again.

I’m a strong believer in this..there’s times I question myself..but I always remind myself why I’m doing it...I’m a believer that it’s not the time you spend at home or with your kids the makes the difference it’s..it’s the quality of time that makes the difference...I talk about this with my kids all the time I share my goals and dreams with them ..I tell them I don’t believe in excuses or that things are impossible as long as there is a will..I spend a lot of time away but the little time I’m home I make sure they count!!!🚛💨

I really needed this today. I went from being a stay at home mother to working full time, pursuing my degree and I find myself feeling guilty constantly. I feel better about my decisions and it's good to see this perspective.
I remained this last year without employment and stayed at home with my kid taking care of him. And felt so relieved that I was there when he needed me and he could trust in me. He learned to respect me as a father but still we are also friends. Before I stayed home he was feeling so lonely at home after school and that broke my heart so bad. I'm sorry that this is my last time ever to stop working but I need money for our future.
Dad's are so important and they play a big role in our lives. Tbh I'm so blessed to have a great father figure who work so hard and show me what a man should be. One of the most under-rated yet important role of a dad is to show up no matter what and they do it. Cheers to all of the great dads 🐐❤️

Hi Patrick,
I just wanted to say thank you. Thanks from my heart.
I'm just a 21year old guy, doing university, running a currently failing company (but I trust myself, so it won't be failing one day), studying finance, and working on myself a lot. Basically, for the last two years, if I'm awake, I'm doing one of the things mentioned above, and I love how much progress I've made, but it's just the beginning.
But man... your opinions and your thoughts make me think a lot, and I can affirm that because of you, I've gained a lot of advantage in life as a man.
Just thanks. I'm grateful for you.

There are trade offs not mentioned.Everyone forgets that are kids are only small for a short time.I used to walk my 3 daughters to preschool everyday at different ages,I would grab there little hands and smile. Then off to work.Ambition can be blinding so can so called winning.I think the hardest is to practice balance and not going broke at the same time.I am a contractor so I see many households that have money but kids are brought up by babysitters and dont have a genuine bond to there parents.Food for thought.
This "sacrifice to provide" concept only makes sense up to a point.
Once you've made enough to keep your family fed, clothed, and comfortable, it is very likely more useful to them to have their father around more than to have more money.

"I'm willing to go hungry as long as I don't have to miss you so much"
I thought that was sweet, but reckless, or stupid. I don't want my daughter to think like that. 😢
To be able to consider sacrifice. And at such a young age.
Incredible values in that family.
Sad but pats point was good at least it’s not time spent at the casinos or drinking with buddies , it’s spent making sure the family will always be taken care of even when they get sick you get access to best doctors and nurses etc. That’s the ultimate security and to get there takes a lot of hard work and long hours and at least 10-15-20 years going hard
Not really, what the daughter mean is that she's willing to eat less so that her father would work less to be with her more...
