- Post Malone is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone. Post Malone covered Sturgill Simpson's song "You Can Have The Crown" during Matthew McConaughey's benefit show for Texas. During the end of the "We're Texas" benefit show Post Malone put on one of the best performances we have ever seen of a cover song. Post Malone is no stranger to Country Music and he proved covering Sturgill Simpson's hit song.

@@koltenmatthews8415 That’s what society tells you, true bluegrass artist don’t claim to be country. Nothing wrong with country but it’s geared way more towards than commercial success whereas bluegrass is derived from early folk music and is way more about just playing music.

That was an incredible cover and he has my full respect for keeping it In line with the original song. I’d love to see him do a full country album. So many people don’t realize that he spent the majority of his life in Texas and has a lot of country roots. I think he’d kill it in the country music genre and could actually be another great “outlaw country” artist who I’d support fully.

Um wow, I am genuinely shocked at how good this was because I had no idea he could sing country. And he sounds better and more authentic than half the "country" singers on the radio today. Now I need him to put out a true country album

I've been a fan for a while, I love reading this type of reaction. People write him off because of what he is mostly known for... But the folks that have gotten to know his work know hes super talented in many different genres. Glad more are discovering him!

What bothers me the most is not Post Malone playing country (which doesn't bother me at all) but Keith Urban having the audacity to play a Waylon Jennings guitar.

@esther fisher We seem to be on different pages here. I am not and never will be a Post Malone fan. I don't listen to his music or any hip-hop. But if the guy wants to sing some good country like Sturgill Simpson I'm fine with it. Meanwhile, Keith Urban helped bring the plague of pop country mainstream. He may be a talented artist but he ain't country. Waylon literally left Nashville back in the 70s because he thought they were destroying country music. Then he and Willie started the outlaw country movement to counter the garbage that was coming out of Nashville. The fact that Keith Urban now plays Waylon's backup guitar is ironic and a bit unsettling.

He’s awesome! Me and my sister 59 and 61 years old, whew, saw him live in Sacramento right before the COVID mess had us both singing, dancing and drinking. We both love Country Hank Williams, George Strait, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Eric Church and now POST! I always knew he had more up his sleeve. He’s Country and damn good! Will be seeing him at his next Country Concert! 👀
Loved it. It's amazing when artists of other music genres cover other artists songs it's such respect for each other. For instance Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones working with Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, etc & George Jones. It was pure dynamite.

The cover Post did is similar to a version of this song Sturgill did from the set of performances he did at Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis, IN in 2013 and is also on TH-cam. That is also my favorite version of this song.
