    I'll try to start the engine of an old Fiat 850 Super that has been stopped for more than 20 years. The car is from the late 60s, it was used until the early 2000s to then be parked on this open space and remain there until today!

    Hi, I'm Italian and I live in Sardinia. With this video, you took me back more than 40 years.
    The Fiat 850 was my father's first car, exactly the same color as yours.

      @@santacruzada If I remember clearly, in The Netherlands we had 850's and 600's with a Fiat badge on. But inside it would show "Seat made in Spain"

    Ah, memories... In June 1966 we travelled by train to Turin and collected our new white 850 tax-free. We travelled all over Italy and France, and drove back to London. A year later we exported the car to Australia, and traded it in 1968 for a Fiat 124. Great fun vehicles!

    My first car! I had a 1969 Fiat 850 while I was a student 1976-80. It broke down so many times, but I loved it as it gave me cheap transport, and like you, I learned how to fix stuff. Your video is great - I recognised all those parts and fixed/replaced most of them on mine. The engine and gearbox were unbreakable - unlike all the other parts!

    My first car was a 1965 Fiat 850, blue, FGT 794C, my mum christened it Fidget, entirely appropriately. It was a death trap that somehow I never managed to crash. The steering column was pointed straight at your chest, aquaplaning was routine, the dash was trimmed with some Hardy Amies tweed with tomato red carpet left over from the bathroom, tyre pressures were 16 front, 26 rear which gives you some idea of the balance of the thing and I adored it. At 9:30 the location of the 3rd and 4th spark plugs gives you an idea of why an additional two universal joints in your forearm would have been useful.
    This was lovely to see, thank you for posting.

    I like the methodical approach to bringing this old motor back to life. Given the number of years the car has sat, some items must be replaced like the battery, points cleaned, fresh oil and fuel. Other components maybe, if it doesn't start, like the condenser. Very satisfying to watch.

    When 18 in 1966 I looked for this model, but sadly bought a new BMC Mini, which was an absurdly bad built car! But some/a few years ago I have seen an elderly lady in a FIAT 850 which still looked reasonably fine, with only a few new paintings from possible rust-repairs? Denmark is the "Pure Hell" for cars, which wasn't built to be extra protected from rust, because of salted roads during winter!

      Exactly.. technically speaking the 850 _was_ a Fiat 600, but as this last iteration of their popular small car evolved bigger than the previous restylings, it was given a new model name and a life for itself. Both cars had the same project number: the 600 was project 100 , the 850 was project 100G.

      This car was supposed to be a replacement of the Fiat 600. The idea originally was to replace the 600 with a new radical disigne of around 1000 cc. But, as usual a financial crise happened and all they did, as a quick solution was to do a 600 with a bigger engine. Of course the bigger engine needed a bigger radiator but the bigger radiator wouldn’t fit in the engine bay. To make it fit they swapped the position of the pinion. But now they had one forward gear and 3 reverse, so they had to make the engine run anti-clockwise. You couldn’t make it up, really

      Cooing problems were usually because the belly pans of the engine compartmet were left off after a repair etc. They were an important part of the "pressurized" system which forced cool air to the radiator fan and then through the rear mounted radiator.

    I had one of these cars, way back in the 1980s. It was a fun little car, I got it for nothing, a guy traded it in for a car we had for sale, we let him off £50 against the car he bought and he was happy. I didn't drive it straight away until my Renault 10 let me down and that Fiat was the only car we had ready to drive, so I took it and enjoyed hooning around the lanes of Surrey, delightful little machine!

    Questa Fiat 850 Berlina Super ( perche' ha il carburatore con Diffusore 22 mm lo si vede quando lava il carburatore) è una prima serie del 64' o 65, perche' ha il tappo benzina quadrato e quindi il serbatoio zincato, i fanalini posteriori con il rifrangente corto, la targhetta identificativa sul lato sinistro del vano motore, il tappo triangolare del galleggiante nel vano motore, il manicotto superiore a soffietto del radiatore questo vuol dire che ha un radiatore a due file lungo di 375 mm delle prime serie, le maniglie delle porte a leva le originali della 850, oggi inizia ad essere rara, perche' sono quasi tutte seconde serie con le maniglie della 500 a pulsante che a me francamente non piacciono molto, la 850 berlina è nata con le maniglie a leva come questa.

    • @marcoceredi
      @marcoceredi ปีที่แล้ว

      Ciao, ho rilevato alcune "stranezze" nel filmato e ne vorrei il tuo parere....... innanzi tutto credo che l'auto sia una primissima serie perchè come si vede al minuto 1.50 sul cofano anteriore mancano le due barre interne di rinforzo che furono inserite per limitare la flessione del cofano e irrobustirlo....Al minuto 14.32 l'interruttore di accensione orignale montato sull'auto e' diverso da quello previsto in origine che era tutto metallico (mentre quello che si vede sembra fissato con una ghiera in plastica nera) e presentava delle scritte attorno alla chiave (MAR - ACCENSIONE ECC....). Ancora piu' curioso l'interno del vano motore al minuto 13.40 si vede benissimo che la puleggia della dinamo ha una gola solamente ed una cinghia unica. Di solito la dinamo presenta una puleggia con due gole e due cinghie, una proveniente dal motore che muove la dinamo stessa ed una che fa' girare la pompa dell'acqua. Per concludere il motore sembra girare in senso antiorario al contrario del solito. In pratica l'aria calda del radiatore viene aspirata nel vano motore piuttosto che essere spinta fuori !!! Sembrerebbe quasi abbiamo montato un motore di una 600 ??? Oppure e' una sorta di prototipo ???

    • @danielependola1580
      @danielependola1580 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcoceredi Ciao !! Si ho visto anche io questi tuoi particolari e ti rispondo subito, il Commutatore di Accensione, gli Originali erano Sipea, i primi li facevano con la ghiera di metallo cromata, poi come ricambio li davano con la ghiera in plastica nera, per cui li è nero perche' è stato in qualche momento sostituito, in quanto lo sfregamento continuo dei contatti nell'uso dava dei problemi di accensione a carico del commutatore, ricotrdo che tutte le 850 erano predisposte per il montaggio del commutatore con antifurto anch'esso fornito da Sipea, bastava togliere la piastrina fermata con la vite. Per quanto riguarda la puleggia della dinamo, qualcuno l'ha sostituita perche' in origine c'era la puleggia con la doppia gola e due cinghie non una unica per le tre pulegge, quella puleggia è del 124 berlina o delle prime 127 o A 112, per cui è una modifica fatta da qualche meccanico in seguito. Per quanto riguarda il senso di rotazione è noto a tutti che il motore 850 gira sinistroso o antiorario, e che ha le pale del ventilatore assiale posizionate in modo inverso a quelle della 600 che invece gira destrorso, l'aria è sempre soffiata sulla massa radiante( e mai aspirata) e scaricata per mezzo dello sportello sotto scocca sempre aperto e fisso perche' la regolazione dell'impianto di raffreddamento nella 850 avviene tramite termostato all'uscita del liquido refrigerante dalla testata, mentre nelle 600, la regolazione avviene tramite parzializzazione dell'uscita dell'aria calda dal radiatore ed in effetti il termostato in questo è posizionato nella vaschetta inferiore del radiatore il quale tramite leveraggio apre e chiude lo sportello del sottoscocca. Per il Cofano anteriore si è vero le prime serie fino ad un certo numero di telaio non avevano i due rinforzi, che poi vennero messi per irrigidire la superfice del cofano stesso.

    Nostalgia!I had one exactly the same as a winter car in 1978-79. A white with red interior, FIAT 850 1969 model year.😍 It was great fun on the winter road and very good heat in the car. I remember fitting 155x14" (org. 145x13) studded winter wheels, which I had lying around from another car. 😎👍

    I worked on these in the late seventies, at the local dealers.
    Revolting little pieces of garbage.
    Rusted before they left the factory, which was shared with most FIAT'S at the time.
    Not quite as bad as the 850 van/camper, they could be driven from the showroom straight to the scrap yard.
    Except the scrappy wouldn't want it.

    Спасибо за видео. Какими простыми и надёжными были классические автомобили! Провести диагностику системы зажигания можно было простым пробником с лампочкой, никаких сложных электронных устройств! Это сейчас удивляет. В нашей семье, 40 лет назад был автомобиль LADA-2101, прототипом которого был FIAT-124. И в нем был точно такой же прерыватель с распределителем зажигания, карбюратор WEBER, только более сложный, не с одним диффузором, а с двумя. Мне приходилось ремонтировать этот автомобиль, и это вызывает много тёплых воспоминаний.

    Il motore della 850 è derivato dalla fiat 600 ed ha servito le A112, 127, le 500 903cc la cosa diversa era il senso di rotazione sinistro mentre tutti gli altri destri, motori indistruttibili.
