These are the kind of videos that I enjoy watching. I've always known that the W123 is an indistructible car. No matter how much rust and dirt they have. They will always start working. I got a 1984 200 gasoline engine it's a W123 as well and I consider it the best car ever made.
At first glance you can say this car has a soul. All modern cars look the same, this is because we are getting to 'cars by subscription' business model where you do not own your car but car company owns you.
@@GedoSenkai You're right. Nowadays all the cars look the same. Even a Mercedes looks too similar to a Hyundai. We're in a decade where design and luxury doesn't matter. As long as it has a screen with lots of apps the car automatically becomes precious to people. Everything has become commercial. I bet you that with one door of a W123 you could make the hood of a Hyundai or Toyota.
One of the best cars ever but rust wins often and there is no chassis on the car. without the plug in heater an old 240D is hard to start when under forty degrees out. Vacuum is a pain often. I like the part with the torch.

I grew up in Kaliningrad (not so far from you, man). These 123 diesels were everywhere - taxi, your neighbour's car, whatever. Engine still sounds like from my sweet childhood. Excellent job!

I had bought a 83 W123 300D, the body was wrecked, someone got the rear axle and the back seat. I bought it for the engine. Put it in a S-10, then took it out to put in a Cummins 4bt. I wanted the serpentive belt sys , The benz is not. Still one grand engine. It is now in my shop waiting on next best install. Great save Flexiny.
My late father left us a 240D from 1985. Ex taxi with 781.000 kms. Same engine but rebuilt once. Yesterday made almost 150 kms. He want more, didn't want to stop. Not the fastest car, but very comfortable and reliable, the weight doesn't help 😂😂
Bit more work to get this engine going but you succeeded, You are one of the best TH-camrs getting old engines going, and the vehicles driving again as well. Keep up the great video's.

I had a W123 , followed by two W124s followed by a W202 followed by a W211 they are all the best of the best and properly maintained will last for a lifetime. Forgot to mention the old w201 190d 2.5 that we bought when 11 years old with 164,000 miles on the clock and taught all three kids to drive in it ,they shared it between them. sold it after 8 years with 237,000 miles on the clock. Must not forget the clk 240 cabriolet that I bought when 9 years old for 6,500 gbp and sold after 10 years for 2,000 pounds . These cars all have their pros and cons but overall they are very very very good . You just have to own one to know
Strong engine,my mate had one of these,he run it on used chip oil straight from the fryers,it was a quick car in the day,body rusted away,cracking body on this one,well worth saving

Great find again. Even after being robbed of parts to save another old Benz, it comes back to life again. And just look at that paint and chrome still ok. This is from a time when the W123's made us think that the Germans were the best engineers. Sadly, not the case today. 👍💯🇬🇧😉

I bought a 1978 300D like this and fixed it got it running and drove it 127 miles home. Paid 1200 USD for her, ive named her Nola and have taken my time restoring her, she's my baby for sure.

That's a shame someone let this car get to this state, these cars are amazing reliable and top of the line back in the day,plus the drive like they are on rails,my Dad was a engineer and in his younger years back in the 60s and 70s all he drove were M-B''s , when he got older he became a little more frugal and started driving other brands but ill always remember him telling me "nothing drives like a Mercedes Benz" , mind you this was back in the day when only certain people drove these cars and they were status symbols,these days the school janitor has a new one plus the quality and build and style is just not there anymore, glad to see it rescued! Ill share a personal memory, i actually accompanied my Dad to a dock to pick up a brand new 450 SL straight from Germany,had a quart of gas in it, blue , this must have been early 70s,sign some papers and off we went! i was little but i remember it vividly, something else i will never forget on these older models is the noise the doors make when they close, its like a air lock,lol,why did my old man decide to buy it from overseas i have no clue but thats how it went down.

Genau dieses Model hatte ich komplett restauriert. Schweißarbeiten hielt sich in Grenzen. Zum Glück. Die Mechanik komplett überholt. Ansonsten ein super Auto. Sehr gemütlich und zuverlässig.

Very nice! When you first look at it, you would say this is trash! But these cars are absolutly bulletproof. Just a few fixes and it will run again. These engines are the best, especially the Diesel engines 😍
I had the same but it was an 200D from 1981. You can't kill the machine. This Car likes a Tank. Beautifull. It runs andruns and runs. Equal about the black Smoke in a hard Winter. This was my first car with the same Color but it was an 200D with 370.000 Kilometers, but I'm thinkin it was more then. The Console stops her work. This Car rustin away, but I'm knowin' his machine is running today already. Sorry for my fucking english. Greetinx from Germany.

Engine not healthy at all judging by that blow-by, but still started, revs and idles just fine in true w123 fashion. It's no lie these things just run and run and run no matter what you put them through. Will be great grounds for a rebuild and restoration... hopefully not too much rust!
The marvelous engineering and elegant mechanical simplicity of this car makes it almost indestructible. Modern cars with all their electronic doodads and computer controlled engines cannot hold a candle to the W-123s.

Früher hieß es auch noch Markenqualität, da hast du für so ein Auto auch ordentlich sparen müssen bis du dir eins Leisten kontest.

This baby only needs a valve adjustment, a diesel purge, some cleaning and bodywork and it's like new
that oil cap is dancing a bit to much, valve adjustement won't be enough I reckon

Because the sounds is kinda related and the head looks kinda similiar but on the vertical side.

Engine not healthy at all judging by that blow-by, but still started, revs and idles just fine in true w123 fashion. It's no lie these things just run and run and run no matter what you put them through. Will be great grounds for a rebuild and restoration... hopefully not too much rust!
The marvelous engineering and elegant mechanical simplicity of this car makes it almost indestructible. Modern cars with all their electronic doodads and computer controlled engines cannot hold a candle to the W-123s.
