Since this is NFL Throwback, Keith Jackson was the first voice of ABC NFL Monday Night Football in 1970 (His only season). He’s best known for College Football. This game was in his final season as an announcer. Keith Jackson’s last game ever was on ABC - the National Championship Game between Texas and USC in January 2006. RIP.
the final college game under the ABC Sports banner too. In his final stint (2000-2005) he only covered west coast games with two notable exceptions, for the 100th games of two great rivalries: Michigan-Ohio State (2003, at Michigan Stadium) and Texas-Oklahoma (2005, Cotton Bowl)
@@lordtrill7731 agreed-Saban tms would have destroyed this this USC tms- Ohio State from 2015 CFP title. LSU 2020 title. Clemson with Deshaun and Lawrence tms would have whipped this USC

The height of college football greatness! I was a sophomore in high school back then and I remember USC and UCLA being must-see TV. Keith Jackson announcing big games man brings back memories
Also shoutout to Marcedes “Big Dawg” Lewis still getting it done in 2022, I believe the only player from this game still active in the NFL. He and Maurice Jones-Drew would end up remaining together after UCLA as they’d become teammates on a pretty solid Jacksonville Jaguars squad for nearly a decade
They were even playing against each other in highschool The Legendary school of De La Salle the team with the Longest Win Streak in ALL of Highschool winning 151 games in a row vs another legendary school Long Beach Poly who sent the most players to the NFL
Reggie, LenDale, along with Matt Leinhart and Coach Pete Carroll were the reason why USC (and the Pac-12) enjoyed a huge resurgence in the early to mid 2000s
Carroll was a joke in retrospect. * 2, 1/2 NCs. * In bowls, lost to Mac Brown, beat Paterno. Carr twice, Zook, Big Lame Bob Stoops (win was vacated), and some guy that you have never heard of in his last bowl win. * Owned only BCS that was vacated
It's also the game that probably cost USC the national title. Reason being. USC's defense got exposed a little bit that day. The 1 team in the nation shouldn't give up 42 to anyone. Esp to a #16 team. I'm willing to bet that was the game Texas used for their game plain.
@westcoastnative2523 I wouldn't say all that. Texas needed a lot of breaks and a miracle to win rhat game. There was a TD that Vince Young got that shouldn't have counted, dudes knee was clearly down while shoveling a TD pass. Also a drive where Reggie Bush fumbled in the red zone trying to get greedy to get more yards, essentially ruining a perfect drive. It is what is, but bottom line SC hurt themselves more than anything in that game. The self inflicted wounds allowed texas to have a chance the end of the game.
Wow that was a typically epic intro to this game from the incomparable Keith Jackson, may he rest in peace A moment of silence for ABC Sports as well. College football was truly on top of sports in 2005, it overshadowed the NFL all year and of course the Rose Bowl title game, maybe the greatest game ever played, blew away that year’s dreary Super Bowl. 2005 is the last year you can legitimately say that about college football or it’s title game, and perhaps coincidentally it was the last year of ABC Sports as well. A lot of now-lost tradition to be found in this throwback, thanks so much for posting an HD copy!
What. History will have it. Every USC win that season vacated. No fan in the future will look at this season as meaning anything. And the 2004 BCS was the only BCS trophy of the 16 that got rescinded. Carroll, ha, 2, 1/2 NCs.
Thank you for uploading this. SC was a special team, and the Bruins weren't slouches either. LA college football was king back then! West Coast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although there was seemingly no need to sell the game, Keith Jackson still sold it perfectly with that measured play-calling. He could have made a middling British gridiron game essential viewing (yes Americans, Great Britain does have a gridiron football league)

There was a show on PBS that shows the box that QB has when throwing to a receiver. it is huge because of the receivers ability to extend for the ball. Lendale's had to be 15 feet in any direction. He was fun to watch.
