I pulled for UCLA at the start. But the grit and heart of Fresno St had me pulling for them at the end. WOW!
Bulldogs vs USC got me interested in college football, and the following year, Cal at Oregon and UCLA's "cardiac kid" nickname got me watching NCAAF ever since. CA Pac-12 teams do not like playing Fresno State--always a potential spoiler.

Missed two bad tackles on that final drive that would have run some clock and made it more difficult on Fresno. Especially that first catch. Should have been five yards and a running clock, instead it was a first down out of bounds. They blew it.

Fresno State has always been a very dangerous team to play. Even when USC was in their dynasty run with Reggie Bush Fresno State pushed them to the limit. They are not a cupcake.
I was at that USC-Fresno State game in 2005 when Fresno State was leading the #1 ranked USC 42-41 in the 4th quarter. But, Reggie Bush became Superman to seal a victory 50-42 with 513 all-purpose yards. That was another legendary game.

I am so salty UW gave that starting job to Eason in 2019. As excited as I was for Eason, every time Haener got playing time, I loved his pure gamer mentality and the zip on his throws. He was always so hungry for success. What heart from him. Really happy he’s doing so well at Fresno State.

@@rom7633 I don’t think a lot of casual fans knew what we had in Haener. But the die-hards had an idea. Once Eason said he was transferring home, I knew Haener’s chance to start was all but gone. I get Petersen said it was an ‘open’ competition in camp in 2019, but come on, the hometown 5 star recruit with an absolute cannon transfers home to UW, there was zero chance of Eason not starting. I was even on the hype train. But I still never believed Haener was ever given a fair shot, and I really liked almost everything I saw from him in scrimmages, and his brief appearances. He commanded the huddle so well, had the zip on throws, and played hungry. After a few games I noticed Eason played like a dude who thought his shit didn’t stink, and was surprised when his rocket arm didn’t fix every problem. But alas, hindsight is 20/20 and Haener ended up in a great situation. Great for him.

Yeah, if Haener stayed.....HE would have had a TERRIBLE WR group that ran bad routes, cut routes short, didnt run through routes and dropped passes left and right, and couldnt block to save their lives. Just like Eason was stuck with. oh, AND Bush Hamdan running the shots! Could Eason have been any more hamstrung? hes still had 23 and 8 for the year. Not a bad year all things considered. And Eason didnt blow 2 14 point leads that he got us against Utah and Oregon...2 games the D lost for us that could have changed the whole season. 10-3 overall 6-3 Pac 12 would have been a much better year. And Bowl. UWs WRs been trash for a few years Ross and Pettis in 16 and Pettis alone in 17 was it! McMillan may be a star, but i thought Puka was going to be too....But he peaced out like a smart guy when Lake hired Donovan!
Jaw dropped entire game. Way to go Bulldogs! to beat a top ranked team in the nation like that, not to mention the QB getting demolished, wincing in pain as he heaves dots downfield with 14 seconds left and wins the game!!

Fresno has put out some quality QB’s. David Carr really never got a chance to excel in the NFL. He was thrown to the wolves in Houston behind a miserable offensive line and basically got broken apart. Derek is a top 10 QB when he gets protection and doesn’t have to try and beat the opponent 40-37.
This game had the excitement of Boise State v Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl. Best game this year so far.

We were there too, I’m a Dogs fan but I think we were the better team, we just need to learn how to win those type of games, the UCLA was a step in the right direction. Go DOGS!

Haener was making some NFL passes late in the game, over middle coverage but under the safeties holy cow! Beautifully thrown passes!

Fresno is mostly a smash mouth type of team, that's because Fresno is in the hot area in CA while Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and USC even San Diego State are in the cooler areas in CA.

UGA fan here. This game is Exhibit A of why college football is the best. Incredible play by both teams, high drama and storybook finish. FS's fans, not to mention Jake Haener, will have a memory to last several lifetimes. Love those bulldogs.

Interesting that Haener was drafted right before DTR. I was a little surprised (as a Saints fan) after watching this game since DTR does seem to have the livlier arm however no doubt Haener is a tough gamer and made some nice short and intermediate throws (& some not-so nice, especially when it comes to his deeper balls). Time will tell if both of this guys end up developing and we’ll certainly look back at this game in a few years

This year feels like College Football is at the best it's been in a while. It really does feel like there have been some incredibly close and exciting games every week.

I've been a Fresno State fan for 35 years and have seen some really good teams along the way (2018 was by far their best team ever). But one thing I've noticed that never fails and a lot of other schools, even big programs struggle with is consistency at Kicker. Fresno State always has good kickers! Idk how they do it but they're always money!

This looked like it was a great game. I wish more of these west coast games were played during the day so that I could watch them. I watched the first quarter of Arizona State/Brigham Young last night before I gave up and went to bed because it didn't start until 9:45 central time.
Great to see the positive FS comments. Lot of pundits saying how good UCLA looked after the LSU win talking about how this was a bad loss, as if it has nothing to do with FS just being a really good team.

Fresno State giving Mountain West Conference a ratings boost. They gave Oregon a good game and Oregon beat Ohio State and are rated #3. And now they beat a highly rated (maybe overrated) UCLA.
Not only did Fresno state get the win, but from what I understand UCLA paid them 1.1 million to do it.

C'mon UCLA - recruiting is sunny Los Angeles should be a slam dunk - you should be winning.
UCLA does bring in some quality talent. But.......their coaching has always been suspect. The assistant coaches complain that they are not paid enough to live on the expensive Westside. So, coaching staffs are unstable.
Plus, their facilities are way below par. Their practice field is built on top of a parking structure. And the field is not even 100 yards long!
It's a very hard school to get in to. Just about every freshmen is an A+ student. Recently rated the top public University in the nation. Even higher than Berkeley. So, not fit for any C student-athletes. Therefore, they have too many players transfer out.

Didn't see this game but when I heard UCLA lost I figured that they once again we're headed for less than mediocre season after a great win against lsu.But after watching the highlights I'm very optimistic for UCLA the rest of the way even though they stopped this one.That Fresno st team is super dangerous with that qb and bunch of talented playmakers Both of these teams should be headed to bowl games and the UCLA qb is almost as lethal as the haener

Fresno State is a good team and deserved the victory, but UCLA’s defense was just awful yesterday. FS literally did whatever they wanted in the pass game.
Knew this game would be close, Fresno state went into Oregon and it was only a turnover difference for the ducks to seal a win . My opinion UCLA shouldn’t have ever lost this game . Should’ve would’ve could’ve , FRESNO STATE CAME TO PLAY SOME FOOTBALL

Yeah it felt like UCLA came out super overconfident after beating LSU, defense played soft, bad play calling, overall poor performance until they picked it up in the 4th quarter. Too little too late tho
