To be fair, Valve didn't shut down any mod just out of spite or greed, they only asked to not distribute source code of the game and when devs did this, Valve just vanished and let them do their thing.
That is already better than what will get from Nintendo... I guess we are gonna need to wait for their games to turn 95 years old just to be able to make them easy to acess, play, preserve and modding free without having to horried about Nintendo suing us (95 years old is as of the time of my wrriting the time require to any and all copyrighted works to enter the public domain I hope Disney does not make the number higher like how they did in the past since it used to be only 35 years but now it is 95 years)
Considering that TF2 wasnt in a very good state at the time of those mods, i dont blame valve for being carefull with what could be seen as a "alternative" to their cash cow. Still nothing would make me happier than seeing elements from TF2C, OF, PF and Lambda Fortress in a official TF2 update, no matter how unlikely it is.
A few notes: Lambda Fortress - Right now there's really 3 LF-related mods. LF:Extended is the one that was abandoned in 2020. LF:CE (Community Edition) is an off-shoot based on old LF:E sourcecode that is trying to bring more weapons, classes, and compatibility with other mods like tr1p or Black Mesa Source. LF (or LF:R as some people are calling it) is the official game being remade by Concussion Studios. They're working hard at getting the game balanced and free of bugs and making it a more enjoyable TF2/HL2 melding. Pre-Fortress 2 - Only thing I want to mention here is that medic does not have access to the shotgun in the base game. You were probably on a server that had a plugin that allowed for it. Also if you're wanting to look into more mods (some very obscure) in the future, I'd say look into LF:CE that I mentioned earlier, and some others like Fortress Obscura, Classic Fortress 2, TFC:S and Survivor
@@matthewsteele99 Hey Matthew, Classic Fortress 2 seems to be another mod that tries to bring back the way early tf2 played... I said "seems to be" because I have never seen a server online so I haven't actually played it myself yet.
@@facebooktweeter4948 I replied above about CF2. Survivor is a mod trying to recreate the multiplayer part of the Half Life Survivor arcade game from Japan,. very cool. I used to have joined a TF2 Zombies mod similar to COD Zombies a while back before the server was closed because the lead dev lost confidence in it. Poor dude, I was actually looked foward to it.
I've always wanted a major non-GMod combination of most major Valve FPS titles, especially HL2, TF2, Portal 2, L4D2, and DOD:S, with the ability to choose any of the Resistance, Mercs, Test Subjects, Survivors, and Soldiers in an absolute clusterfuck of a game.
With Open Fortress, there are other game modes, but they’re listed under Mutators in the server creation menu. There’s Infection, Randomizer, and Gun Game.
TF2C is not TF2 2008 reimagined, it's more of a recreation of beta TF2 and TFC in TF2 using various cut features from what almost became TF2 and existed in TFC, hence the name, such as the VIP and cut weapons. Similar to Pre-Fortress, except that there are a lot of new things as well.
TF2vintage explanation is a bit out of date, TF2v isn't as much pre-mannconomy as much as it is supposed to be a TF2 museum for every major version of TF2 after tf2v3.5.

Its one of those things that will always urk me with games. Like it makes sense, obviously. Anyone that creates can understand the struggle, worried about people stealing or abusing your creation, without any respect to you or consideration. (there's a long history of creators being treated like shit, that's still ongoing) But it is just sad to see so many, equally and clearly loved, fan built creations, get shot down for one reason or another. Example to use being Nintendo and their cease and desists crusade.
I feel like all these mod teams should group up for one supermod as all ideas deserve more resources. Open Fortress movement/weapons/powerups and mercenary. TF2C custom weapons, civillian, 4 teams. PF2's beta mechanics such as grenades, nailguns, armour and detable dispensers. (Though they should look for TFC or Fortress Forever for authenticity) Lambda Fortress for a proper TF2 campain mode that could be played solo, versus or coop like Left 4 Dead. Maybe it could be used as a base to make custom campaigns that follows the plot of the comics.
That would cause heavy confliction between codes of each mods and developers, at one point TF2C use to have a deathmatch mode of it's own, until it was later scraped and split up into Open Fortress (and Team Deathmatch Classic) due to the fact that 1. as mentioned coding would often conflict causing one thing to one game mode, and another to the other game mode, and vice versa 2. the developers of each team couldn't usually agree in certain directions of the mod or it's respective game modes Now granted that's not to say that some people in each source mod team don't also help or work with other source mod teams because a fair share do specifically between TF2C and OF, and recently someone working for both of those teams (plus more) is working on a universal source mod launcher, so expect TF2C, OF, LF, PF2 and many more downloaded under the same launcher library

Hey! so after this video I'm looking to play Lambda Fortress Extended but I don't know exactly where to go to download it, anyone know where I should download it?
I wish that someone would make a sourcemod called Scream Fortress Classic. And the purpose of playing it would be to experience the 2010-2014 era of scream fortress. Back in those years of scream fortress, there was no such thing as soul gargoyles or halloween contracts. Instead, we were getting our halloween cosmetics from these pickups called haunted halloween gifts. Getting halloween cosmetics from the haunted halloween gifts was always a million times better than getting them from the halloween contracts because unlike the contracts, the haunted halloween gifts wouldn’t force us to play on specific halloween maps just to get 1 stupid cosmetic, and instead, they’d randomly spawn on any halloween map that we were playing on, similar to the soul gargoyles.
I knew about the small drama Valve had with Open Fortress and TF2 Classic but didn't know there were more mods that try to replice old mechanics and features of the game. That tells you that people in some way or another prefer the old fashioned way to play than having the game getting a good chunk of cosmetics.
I just wish Valve released a Source Moddable version of TF2 similar to Half life 2, even if it's the original ToB release. Mostly because these mods are not made with malicious intent, just the unfortunate leaked code use. And it could help to solve the headache of having these mods available on steam without the leak issues. Also, Lambda fortress is rather insane, as they are looking to expand compatibility with other Half life 2 mods (even with Hunt Down the Freeman).
Small correction Valve isnt against TF2 modding, the cease and desit letter was a mistake, from rumors (valve isnt a company to be open about whats going on inside) we know that the legal team sent a cease and desit before actually communicating with yhe devs at Valve The devs at Valve after the letter was sent went to the legal team and told them that since TF2 is on source 1 and Valve views source 1 as deprecated Valve doesnt care about these games using leaked code, which they do use And Valve being a company with the communication skills of a toddler just went quiet after this, Valve does this even to other companies, they just stop communicating out of no where
tf2 classic rly seems to be balanced around the average player that is not gonna squeeze out every % of effectiveness they can reach. they now also gave heavy a mid range rocket launcher and pyro (the slow area damage class) a force a nature that knocks him around for no health cost . they kinda removed the point of classes whit this so i only play tf2 classic for the custom weapon community servers
