The reason why valve's servers disable clientside mods is because clientsided mods, while solely cosmetic, have been used to enable literal wallhacks.
It's surprising what a clientside mod can do with a little malicious creativity.
still remember the texture vh on gamebanana, took them like 5 years to remove lol
even with the stuff that valve allows on casual, that ability is still there
And it achieved nothing because cheaters can still use wall hacks, along with aim bot and other cheats. Ever since this change the cheating has only gotten worse. So we lost mods and gained nothing
Yeah, and instead of you know, them disableing the function to draw materials on top of everything else, they shotgunned the entire modding scene, even reanimation mods are technicly not allowed, TF2 just won't unload them from ram until you turn off the game.
You can also have a giant siren go off whenever you hear a spy decloak
Hi there, I'm a recently added Lambda Fortress Community Edition dev, a lot of the unbalanced shit and broken stuff were added by sole devs that are very much gone from the project, I have since removed and been rebalancing all day what is trash and overpowered, it'll stay very silly and stupid but I'm happy to see you had fun, it's been in development for like a few months so there's a lot of work to do and code to clean-up.
will bullet and jerry stay?
You know what this whole "dev not associated with project anymore" thing reminds me of? Skullgirls 2nd Encore. Why? Because the publisher who owns the game replaced the old team with no-bodies just to shove us one of the worst updates ever to the fighting game that had been around since 2012.
@@SaintRedFox bullet will probably get removed as it's just a reskin, with jerry, i have been thinking about replacing him as i genuinely don't have much to do with him as a class. i have not decided on it yet, though
@@assisted_salso, i recommend downloading both, we have play tests on lf ce and game plays on lfe
Good ol scout with cocaine
they should add a mod that adds in the cut “heavy” class.
You sure? There isn’t much info on the heavy class, even with all the leaks there isn’t a cut model. Outside of the code, there’s no mention of heavy. We don’t even know what weapons he would have either. If someone were to create a mod it’s probably not gonna be very accurate to Valve’s original vision.
What Abt coconut jpeg mod
have not heard of this class, can somebody fill me in?
@@novayazemlya6852I think the Heavy was supposed to be the tank of the game, that could take and dish out a lot of damage but like most tanks, has very poor mobility. There isn't much information but it's weird that he wasn't added, therefore leaving Demo and Engi alone in the Defense category. But Valve might add a 9th class eventually.
pfff, the heavy class was such a boring class based on the concepts, like wtf? a fat guy with a minigun???? whats next? the fat guy with a sandwich????? such stupid concept.
Hello! I am a developer for Lambda Fortress: Community Edition! (We're planning on breaking off into our own mod entirely, because of how absolutely mad this mod has became in such a small amount of time) I am also the one who designed the Enforcer, Jerry, John Freeman, and Repressor classes. These are, at the moment, unfinished classes that have planned mechanics. We are up for any kind of criticism so we can make this mod a fun and unique experience! (Even if it is a bit insane) Also, most the crashes you encounter are mostly caused by LF:E's code, as well as the new features that are being added. We are working to fix all these issues!
By the way, look forward to a whole revamp of the hl2 campaign. Adding new rooms, new enemy encounters, and probably more. Making the Water Hazard, and Highway 17 chapters actually fun to play is also on the agenda. (There are also some custom campaigns being worked on the side)
also there's mvm :troll:
lambda fortess 3??!?!
As soon my pc repairs i'm gonna download it
isn't mvm just that part in ep2
nice
Honestly, your mod looks better than the original lambda mod because atleast yours is creative
“Giant fucking tire strapped to the medics back” holy shit it’s Junkrat
I use to have a mod several years ago that turned the Soldier's rockets into Sniper, they would fly out screaming while A-posing then explode and saying piss several times, It truly was beautiful.
You can disable the Meet Your Match HUD: “Use the team status display in the HUD” in the Advanced Options or “tf_use_match_hud”.
I already use this but the updates hud changes still broke almost every community gamemode ever and even arena mode
@@RichterOvertime type tf_use_match_hud 1 , wait a minute or two or so and type tf_use_match_hud 0 . works for me.
As the creator of the big booty fempyro mod, I am glad I could contribute to the chaos that is tf2 modding.

I love tf2 modding so much. Ended up compiling a bunch of sonic mods for tf2 into a single modpack not too long ago and haven’t looked back lmao, even made some sound and texture replacements of my own.
Good God! Now we need a mod for a bunch of THESE mods!
If memory serves me well. The reason why titanfall 1 and 2 got parkour. is because one of the devs had i think a HL or mod on a source that had parkour and thought it will be neat to be core mechanic in TF1&2. and we know that TF1&2 are made on source too.
It was internal. One Respawn developer quickly programmed the mod as they were looking for game engines to begin working on TF. From what I understand, they chose Source because the team already had experience using it and it was quick to work with. TF wasn't greenlit yet so it was very important to get something working fast to show off.
@@vxpdx thanks for clarifying
@@vxpdxIf I'm not mistaken, they worked in the CoD area before founding Respawn, and CoD runs essentially on a heavily modified and expanded Quake 3 engine. Similar to how GoldSrc was a heavily modified Quake 1 engine and Source is oriented on GoldSrc. So a lot of their experience carries over. (You can even still use the same bind scripts in modern CoD, Apex Legends and Doom Eternal. That id DNA never fully went away.

He must have worked... overtime to make this video.
1:51 Probably to prevent wall hacks/ making big player models
Hi! I really like this video because you actually delved into *weirder stuff*, unlike most "Wow TF2 Mods Are Wacky" videos which are just the same popular stuff over and over again. It felt like a real love letter to TF2's weirder customization scene. The TF2 modding scene IS still a wild west, and this video kinda shows that (although with some relatively dated examples, for example the Demoman Creeper - I made that four years ago.)
I thought I might provide extra context from my personal perspectives as a "silly TF2 mod guy". *Warning, wall of text ahead.*
*[Regarding LF:CE]*
I'm actually a developer/contributor (on-and-off) for Lambda Fortress Community Edition! The Minecraft weapon you mentioned was originally a model I made for a TF2Maps jam, and wanted to use it here to try and replicate Minecraft-esque combat as a TF2 weapon. One of my mods was also used before I even heard of LFCE (that being a Manhack reskin for the Robro, that was repurposed as a passive secondary item). I animated the M1 Garand, and also animated the shotgun for Sniper. I've also coded stats here and there for balancing and also trying to properly replicate live TF2 weapon mechanics (before I implemented it, the Classic didn't work entirely right, the Atomizer didn't work as it did nowadays, etc etc.)
Since LFCE's a "community led mod", it's mostly just an unofficial mishmash of stuff that isn't serious in any matter. I personally see it as a "HL2: Overcharged" take on the LF formula (a mishmash of everything) rather than something to be taken seriously. If you want that, either play the old LFE, or wait for CoaXion to finish developing their remake (from the ground up) of Lambda Fortress.
*[Regarding the state of TF2 modding]*
Yeah TF2 modding is a shell of its former self. And not just from the user-side (thanks to sv_pure basically shafting anything that isn't a custom hud or config), either. Most modern submissions on GameBanana are mostly serious stuff (workshop submissions, fixes to stuff, custom huds, what have you) or things that have an audience of extremely hormonal young adults (for example, after a certain Pyro incident, a noticeable influx of "grotesquely large pyro" requests have appeared on the site, and probably contributed to the site adding a "Fetishistic" content filter). However, there are definitely diamonds among the rough - recently some high-effort Overwatch ports have appeared (not just limited to the tracer mod you showed footage of briefly), a Kiryu mod for Spy, a giant baguette Tomislav, just to name a few posted within the past couple of weeks. Hopefully more people will over time get interested in making silly stuff again, as I won't lie, they're just fun to make if nothing else.
*[Continuing modding, as a modder]*
I probably won't stop making silly mods any time soon. I may try to put more polish and content into my modern work (for example, I initially planned to make a Fortnite playermodel work with *all Sniper cosmetics*, which I am pretty sure is just unrealistic for one guy to do himself), but that's just because of a personal wish to actually improve each time I make something (unfortunately it results in me making less and less stuff because I don't want to churn out little things and so burn myself out rather easily, even though I enjoy making little things more than larger projects). This video (and the research I contributed in its creation) helped me remember that little silly things (which I started out with) are still appreciated by people, and I should maybe make them more.
if you read this far into the comment reply "war paint classic" or something idk thank you for taking the time to read my giant essay on tf2 mods

I made a mod for the game that’s a calendar mod. I redrew the style and framing of the calendars from the base game, but I drew some of my characters instead of the nameless girls. It got some nice attention and quite a few downloads. It makes me happy to see that a silly thing I made for myself for flavor got welcomed by the community.
i dont play tf2, i dont got a steam account but i would love a "video tour" of this calender mod explaining all of it
I'm suprised he didn't mention Alaxe's new Fem Pyro now that it's actually out
its not a weird mod

Knowing the guy who made my favorite TF2 community mode worked on my favorite game is awesome.
Oh man Parkour Fortress was a blast from the past! I remember when i was playing with a bunch of players in new year eve. I also didint know that the same guy made A Hat in Time! Good Video!
8:03 group hallucinations guys, its a normal pyro
Oh god
Writing a comment before I watch the video to see if the Necromobile (a 2009 mod that replaces Spy's Fancy Fedora with an entire full-scale hearse) gets mentioned. It's slipped into deep obscurity, which is a damn shame.
Please, please make more of this. I absolutely loved this video. Great job :)
Hi there, I'm the Voice Actor for Drake (on a stick), a recently added weapon in the latest patch. The build you used in your video on the mod not only did not include the Drake (on a stick) weapon, but also was one of the earlier builds. Alot of the bugs you brought up as concerns only existed in that specific build. I don't want to speak for the devs here, but I'd personally hope you'd give the more recent build of the mod a shot, even if only to enjoy the recently added Drake (on a stick) weapon. ^^
Hey I've seen some things I've made mentioned in this video! I made LFCE and also that smg sten gun mod for scout
I know this dude. He is my friend.
This mf took LF:E and made it very ep1c!!!!!!1!!1!!1!1
I downloaded a mod that replaced the mannrobics song with the National Aerobic Championship Theme from 1988. It was the best mod I've ever downloaded
Wait, soo you're saying that the majority of the time i was playing pyro, my model was a fem pyro on some dude's game?
the roblox mods specifically the "typical colors" or tc2 mods are pretty cool attempts of porting the visuals of a group of roblox devs that tried to make tf2 in roblox called typical colors 2, tc2 is still being updated and a lot of stuff has been added like a camera for spy that temporarily allows ur teanates to see a targetted enemy through walls which is interesting, ive played its personally not my cup of tea but id certainly recommend ppl to give it a try
thanks for just casually dropping that the creator of parkour fortress also made one of my top 10 favorite games of all time totally didn't blow my mind or anything
I'm legitimately surprised so many people didn't make the connection that Mecha the Slag made A Hat in Time. Of course, not everyone knew Mecha's real name. But yeah, that's why SLAG Gaming just slowly fizzled out over time. He got too busy with AHiT and let the servers go downhill. It's sad, but in the end we got a dope game out of it.
Parkour Fortress is such a great mod, I've spent many hours trying to get new PBs. Huge shoutout to Screwdriver and the PF crew for keeping it alive after all this time!
you know where i can find it?
My favorite clientside mod is actually the flat-chested fempyro mod. The other, well known fempyro mod just looks too unrealistic and too extreme. In short, too big boobs and butt. The flat-chested one is perfection to its core imo. I also use an addon that fixes props, which should appear for taunts but for some reason, don't. It's pretty useful.
I agree
you are definitely in the minority of fempyro mod enjoyers
@@norasthegoatdemon1794 I see you're a man of culture as well.

would love to see a video on some classic comunity maps like harbl_hotel and the mario kart one full of old memes from 2007.
I did a vid on Mario kart a long time ago but it’s a bit shit I might redo it eventually
Harbl hotel is a masterpiece
so many hours on baloon race despite being an actually terrible map (even by memey map standards)
there was something so simple yet so entertaining about that era
2:14 Whenever somebody mentions Jonas, I always think about how in FUNKe's A Hat in Time review he brings up getting banned in the Gearrs for Breakfast tf2 servers
Crazy news! As of ~2 days ago, it turns out that custom models *are* completely possible in Casual. One of the summer update patches that fixed a crashing bug when using custom models has a weird side effect. After the patch models are able to be loaded into casual, but mods made before about yesterday will appear invisible because they still have their textures blocked.
Custom models can be seen in Casual either by using existing textures from the game, OR by sneakily redirecting the model's textures into one of the "allowed" texture folders like the ones used for custom backgrounds and HUD elements. ~5 mods have already done this as of today and it seems like gamebanana is kinda blowing up with hype, everyone's frantically trying to figure out how to port their stuff to casual right now. Big things are happening but it's just gonna take some time. I'm really hoping that Valve is too lazy and aloof to patch this one
You have great music taste mate, I spot that The Social Network soundtrack around 2:41
i play parkour fortress weekly for YEARS since it came out. so happy you gave it some attention. amazing video 10/10
I remember seeing the see tinh taunt in the store, and it was just a work of art
The potential of a tf2 story game, where you go through levels as the classes in a way maybe similar to attack defence could be insane
So many good memories on balloon wars, achievement_engineer, freak fortress 2, and especially slender fortress...
If you didnt know, you can use client side mods like weapon viewmodels (yes like a eyelander weapon mod etc) models and animations by putting "map itemtest; wait 10; disconnect" in your autoexec
Due to this, i finally had a excuse to use the hhh because the viewmodel sucks
Yeah you're gonna need to make a follow up on this one, someone found a way to make mods work on casual.
Ah yes, the pyrocynical mod.
The end credits song hit me so hard, as if I had just played re-volt on the ps2 yesterday....
From time to time you recognise some random song instantly, because it played on some MTV Snowboarding game for the ps1...
(btw it was "Fear FActory - Cars" , for anyone that even played this game)
“Old habits die HARD” -Richter Overtime
At the moment, the community is making casual compatible mods, which is sth very new and interesting to say
The only 2 mods I really ever use are Bot Overhaul (which works pretty well in terms of generating navemeshes, but doesn’t fix problems like the opposite team being able to tell you’re a spy just by bumping into you even if you aren’t cloaked) so I can play TF2 without the anxiety of being having to interact with other people, and Highertower, which is Hightower but Higher.
The outro song is FrontEnd (Main Menu theme) from Re-Volt.
I love you so much
video aside.
atleast someone still remember's Re-volt.
gotta love hearing the menu screen while choosing your RC-CAR and map.
man i miss that game
Dude I just commented that, havent touched this game for over 15 years now, but I instantly knew where i've heard this song before
Im so glad you talked about lambda fortress, it's just such a cool mod.
you gave me whiplash with the outro song I HAVE to go play Re-Volt now
I need a compilation just of Richter saying „Good Evening“.
11:21 There's no reason for anybody to suspect that I have downloaded this...
HELLO HI!!!! I MADE THAT!!!!
At least you forgot my birthday 3 days ago Richter. That was a pretty cool video.
1:49 there was a mod that reskined player models so you could see them through walls.
Ayo the end screen soundtrack is fire. Re-Volt is such a banger
Richter, don't you dare escape, what did you do with your fluffy bunny VOD?
i already know this video was gonna be good by just hearing the poker night at the inventory ost in the background in the intro
wheres the big booty pyro mod!?!?!?!?
the parkour fortress thing reminds me
the titanfall series run on a heavily modified version of the source engine
is is honestly FASCINATING how much advances in tools we have, like aftereffects, photoshop, blender, etc., have improved the average quality of p0rn on the internet, game mods included. just 12 years ago, when Skyrim first came out, making entirely new meshes for mods, instead of ripping professionally made assets from elsewhere, was still rather rare.
that revolt ost at the end hits hard
I know, right? Had to pause the video as soon as I've heard it..
What a throwback
Years ago I played a bunch of Pony Fortress 2, which gave each team a pony-themed Saxton Hale with a class gimmick tacked on (like spy's invisibility or scout's double-jump). The pony heroes also had ultimate abilities which buffed their teammates. It breathed a lot of new life into the game and could have probably gathered popularity if wasn't exclusive to a single server, and had a less controversal theme.
A really cool video ! Your video reminds me of the "Pre-Fortress 2" mod, which back in the day in 2019, wants to recreate the beta atmosphere like arounds 2019. It's apparently dead.
I made a video about pre fortress called "the team fortress we almost got" last year
@@RichterOvertime Oooh okay okay, i will watch it ! It's kinda sad that is.. dead ? But hey it's still cool to think that a lot of developers made this mod !
(lmao i wrote "wants to recreate the beta atmosphere like arounds 2019" my bad, i wanted to write "around 2006")
oh my gosh parkour fortress was my shit back in the day thank you for bringinf back these memories, i still didnt forget any of those levels after so many years xD
Okay to be fair there's actually a good reason to not allow client side visual mods since you could use it to make every model always visible through walls or make the spy visible when he is cloaked.
Yup. Of course people will try to move the goalpost in response by saying “B-b-but cheaters can get around this by downloading cheats.” By that very same logic we should stop arresting criminals because other criminals can find different ways to commit crimes.
Awesome video as usual
Parkour maps were the jam a whole decade ago. I remember from time to time me and my mate used to troll people by standing behind the red doors so they couldn't be opened.
That lambada fortress reminds me of me playing LFD2 with a bunch of random mods that didn’t mesh well together having a grand ole time
i havent watched this guy in so long, good to see hes more popular now
I know why TF2 modding kind of changed over the years. TF2 server pluggin moding used to be huge because Valve didn't have their own servers at launch, so community was the only option until official pubs (and later casual) became the forefront. Clientside modding was also big back then because Valve didn't moderate it until 2015 with sv_pure being added to said official servers after they overtook community servers in popularity.
0:51 kiryu chan in tf2 is real
very nice vid richta, as always
never heard of community edition but i've been playing Lambda Fortress extended for awhile. I haven't really seen any updates from their discord but they have the download there and its seems a lot closer to the original than community edition and consistently has players online.
7:03 this was my dream when I was little, I always wanted to do something like this in tf2, and I can’t believe it was an actual thing back that, I had loved half life and tf2 and portal and all of that, but I never knew there was an actual game mode for that, also, nice choice of music here, the fukin boss theme from PvZ lol
I used to have a client side mod that replaced some of my taunts with old animations from Dr. Face and other classic SFM creators. Man I miss those days.
Oh man I remember seeing that sniper with the jar in his mouth as a kid. It’s haunted me ever since
Had a ragdoll mod where if killed, your body would flip out and fly everywhere hitting stuff and if you keep killing more people it becomes complete chaos
thanks for reminding me to play PF. I used to play it for hours on end and last time I was on it was a couple of years ago.
babe wake up new richter overtime video just dropped
So yeah PF actually had some PVP maps, they were just KOTH but with the PF features but, if my seemingly failing memory serves, some other classes were also available, scout being limited to a pistol, and some melee attack, if limited in armament. Recommend using the VR view models when playing PF as it provides a better view model than the forced animations, the same commands you use to do first person taunts actually.
“Babe wake up .new richter overtime video just dropped.”
Fr tho I love tf2 mods and I’ve been thinking about getting mods recently so ty.
2:41 SOCIAL NETWORK SOUNDTRACK MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥 I LOVE TRENT REZNOR
People are still making new Parkour Fortress maps. Awesome gamemode, basically a total conversion server mod. It remembers your best times on each map. They even added freakin' bonus areas to some maps that you can play via chat commands, which have separate best times.
There is a sort of co-op in the game already on the community servers and it's called mvm Machine Attacks
Thank you for informing me that the guy who made a parkour tf2 mod, also made one of my favorite indie games, a hat in time.
7:24 is that a job? because if so i know my new
dream job
I still feel giving some attention to the new sentry waifu Mimi given this version seems to be making steady headway around the community with I guess you could say a more universal appealing appearance. Seems mostly popular in TF2 Blender animations
I don't know if someone ever told you this, but your voice is very soothing. 😂
"And with Mecha The Slag moving his priorities toward creating the indie game, A Hat in Time-"
Yeah, 'cause _that's_ the kind of bombs that we just _casually_ drop on the Richter Overtime channel!
What the heck, I had no idea the creator of Parkour Fortress directed A Hat in Time!
Me neither! I was mid nostalgia trip since i haven’t seen parkour fortress gameplay in easily 8+ years and i heard that and was completely shocked! Went from creating a goated TF2 mod to a goated game
at 0:13 i play on that server all the time, the guy in the killfeed is a regular too
8:30 John Freeman who is Gordon Freeman's brother?!? I haven't seen him since he killed all those zombie ghosts in that house
Richter Overtime when he downloads a sexy Pyro mod "for the joke"
Parkour Fortress, man that really brings me back.
Person that had made some skins in the past for TF2 on gamebanana here - thing that mostly killed skinning community from gamebanana, was mostly Valve adding more content that made our work pointless
Here is a mostly example of what i mean - Australium Guns, around 11-12 years ago, there have been a "Boom" of making Autralisum Skins over teamfortress -> even Myself i manage to get part of that Cake... #2 most downloaded Loch-n-Load skin there
Hell, just watching my old Gamebanana submissions, i noticed i still had a PC running 4:3 aspect ratio screen
