This now costs more than my more powerful PC. LOL Your first point cost: Every PC game is cheaper. If not on Steam, use another place such as CD Keys. Recent example for me, I bought Tekken 8 for £40 rather than £55 on Steam or £69.99 on console. I also don’t pay for online which is at least another £50/60 a year for the basic subscription. My PC cost £1300 (5800x and RTX 4070 Super) how long are you going to have the PS5. Let’s be generous and say 5 years. So that’s an extra £250 on top of the £480 for a PS5. I save around £20 to £30 per new game on PC vs console and have access to a generous refund system through Steam and GOG. I Buy around 8 games a year. Say £20 saving on each one. Thats now cost me £940. I will continue to save as years go on compared to a console. Second point: shader compilation stutter. It happens. You seem to of omitted that many games are coming with shader compilations on first boot to alleviate some of those problems. But that is part of the parcel. Sucks sure. But let’s not pretend it outweighs the perks and QOL improvements. FOV sliders. Enough said. Backwards compatibility: Sure, some games to need extra patches generally made by the awesome mod community. But some don’t or are patched by companies like GOG. Find the answer in a week. Never used the PC Gaming Wiki. LOL. You also mention backwards compatibility, my PC can play 90% of video games made before 2005 for CONSOLE flawlessly. I can play Mario and Jak on the same box. Console can’t. Means I sold my PS2 and GC. I personally don’t mind the tinkering for some old games. If I want to play it. I will. Same to me as if I’m hungry I’ll cook. So the point to me is moot. The example of AC1 you also mention has never occurred to me. Because hardware and installed software varies. You stated it as a fact. When in reality. You are explaining your personal experience. I would also love to add recently. People couldn’t even play Xbox games they owned due to DRM issues. Something you never mentioned. Point of a PC: What’s the point of having a PC. How do you think your console games are made?? Did you edit this video on your phone?? Music is done on computers. I think I’m going to stop commenting now because your points fall to flat on there face it’s unreal. Let me make it easy to you. Consoles require a lower tier upfront cost and offer fantastic performance for the price point. But if you want the best experience, highest resolutions and 120fps etc… PC. It’s a multifunction powerhouse, get this. You can do different tasks in different “Windows” get it.
One point worth mentioning when arguing for PC, Microsoft is an evil and incompetent company. Windows is a God awful os that spies on you constantly and is prone to breaking itself or at the very least fighting you in you objective to do want you want. Not having to deal with Microsoft is a major boon for ps5 and switch. Xbox is the worst of all worlds though, belongs in the garbage. Granted Linux is a rapidly growing option that is far better IMO, even if a lot of deep set Windows users refuse to switch because they're set in their ways. Join me in penguin land, its better. Here you're free.
As good as PC is. Emulation is not much of an advantage at all, since you can run emulators on almost everything, a Pi, Wii, Mobile, Handhelds, hacked consoles etc. It will also not play all of the games prior to 2005 natively especially games from the 90's that require old hardware. Your going to have to rely on a Retro Build or ports/emulation to play the classic stuff. But there is GOG to save the day. As for what's cheaper, physical copies are the cheapest. I always wanted the old COD games on PC, but they rarely ever will drop in price. I can get physical copies of those games for the PS4 and the Xbox One for much much less. PC did away with physical copies. You're kind of stuck with MSRP prices. And it seems like consoles are now trying to do the same with the Pro not having the discs. I think Handheld gaming is where the wow factor is at today.
You stressed the increasing transistor count as increasing difficulty in development, but the Cell on PS3 was actually harder to work with than the current x86 chips in current consoles. We've been using x86 based CPUs since the 80s, and there's a ton of tools to work with them. Transistor count doesn't as have much of an effect on dev difficulty as you mentioned.
PS2 was also a difficult console to develop, even if it was the most popular ever. The Sega Saturn in the mid 90s is another example of hard console to develop for
@@Peb02497 thanks for reminding me of this comment, I forgot to add something. Current CPUs are EASIER to develop for because they’re so overpowered that devs don’t need to spend as much time optimizing as they used to.
For me the problem with this generation is that it doesn’t feel like a real evolution. Going from ps4/xbox one to ps5 and series X felt more like just getting the pro systems and had slight improvements. Most games are still coming out on last gen still so that even proves that point more. Sure the games are still good for the most part but the hardware on both sides are just lackluster. If they waited till this year it maybe would’ve been a better experience having games have time to be made and more improvements into the systems.
The thing is people want more and more. One thing he shows in his video is the amount of games came out. Then he takes out cross gen games and games that are on other platforms, first party gamas. Making only a couple games to be excited for. But when I got a series x. I was mainly playing cross gen games. Which was completely fine. The thing is that people have such a victim mentality that they will just make excuses to feel hurt. In reality there's a ton of games to play. Probably why games arnt nexr gen onlynis because ofnthe chop shortage and it wouldn't of been worth while for company's to make nexr gen only games when there's a console shortage. Also it takes games way longer to make. So usually there's not alot of games in the first couple years of a console launch. Since it takes like 5-7 years for a game to come out.

The machines are highly capable. The problem is the development of bigger games and messier, unoptimised code that runs like dogshit. That's the inherent risk of these huge 60-100 hour experiences and it's so depressing to see these "Pro" consoles trying to brute force their way past that problem.

@@millabasset1710 I do think Doom Eternal is an outlier---it has a much greater focus on gameplay than most other modern AAA games, even ones from years before. Most AAA games are pretty shallow when it comes to gameplay, with most of the attention spent on looks and narrative.
Being a game dev in the modern age must be awful and I do not envy them. Years or even decades of insanely hard work, crunch and sometimes even leaks all for sweaty entitled nerds to rip you to shreds on the internet over a rushed product that was out of your control and was the decision of know-nothing shareholders who only care about profits. I think us as gamers should all appreciate the work game developers do to make these products for us no matter how long they take to come out. We owe it to them for the hundreds of thousands of hours of fun we've all had in some game at some point or another regardless of platform.
OMG, enough with this silly developer romance. They get payed, they aren't working for free. And probably paid much better than the rest of us that do more essential work. You can live without a video game just fine, not the same without people getting your garbage, people cleaning the sewers, people driving trucks and ships to bring products to your supermarket or people bringing you home the things you bought and people maintaining your electrical network and pluming etc etc. Can we stop behaving like they are heroes? half of them this days are just bright haired colored weirdos making bad games as well. Jesus man, I'm not sure what's your point in this video. The first part of the video was not even important for the discussion, by the title I thought you were going to talk about this generation, But first you spend a long time exaggerating problem that PC have for some reason, like, compatibility is not even a big problem, you say "specially when playing old games", man, that ONLY happens when you play old games. Consoles is in fact more convenient, that true, but I don't see how that's relevant for anything, you even make the point "at leat you have the games to play on pc", and yeah, that one the advantages, and there is also disadvantages. Either way, that has nothing to do with this generation or what people are even saying the problem are with the game industry.
At this point, Maybe we're just outgrowing gaming as a whole, the younger gamers don't complain about what was and what isn't because they didn't grow up with the games that we did.
I would be more interested in buying Console games if every game had a VR mode with it. I'm loving the VR modes in the Resident Evil games on PS5 and am thinking about building a gaming PC to play my favorite old games and Re remakes with VR mods.
So glad that i switched to Handheld PC. Consoles are watered down PC's with barely any exclusives and no backwards compatibility support. But there is a deep issue with less triple a games which effects all platforms.
Another big issue I believe, at least when it comes to Hardware subsidizing. It's really hard to re-coup on software sales when the biggest games on your platform are Free To Play or games from 10+ years ago.
I used to be a fan of consoles like the PS1, Dreamcast, N64, Virtual Boy, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Switch because of their simplicity. However, I’ve recently switched to PC gaming, and wow! The emulation of all my favorite old games is amazing. Plus, games on Steam and other platforms are cheaper, with frequent sales. Everything is relative, and I’m super happy I didn’t invest in the current generation of consoles. I also always disliked having to pay for gaming services just to play with friends. Times have changed; back in the Xbox 360 days, people would chat about the gameplay. Now, it seems everyone mutes each other, so there’s no team spirit unless you’re in a clan or something. Consoles only came about as a spin off of old PC games. I think you may be stretching your narrative to thin.
Partlybof the greed I guess? I mean, the fact that games like Wukong was made with $70million and able to outsold lots of games in 2024 is outstanding.
I think there is some truth to what you're saying. As a game, it's definitely a breath of fresh air. I definitely hope publishers like Ubisoft, Microsoft, and EA take note. The unique setting relatively unexplored in storytelling really helps too. We need a lot more exploration of Chinese art and legends. I don't think it's a good example of cost savings though. It was made in China and Chinese workers... are paid substantially less than Japanese, American, or European counterparts. I would hate to see publishers do what manufacturers did in the 90's and just migrate the development resources over to China.

Game companies biggest failure is they spend money on BS and then wonder why their multi-million dollar projects are ignored by gamers. It is enough to look at PSX hits - less BS in games and more fun gameplay. Why not focus on gameplay and let people with vision make games as in their vision? Today's AAA titles don't even feel like designed to be a game and more like product and one which isn't designed for gamers but "expanding reach". No wonder there is crisis with gaming and why no new games. How much money does it make to make some dumb story and make you shoot some baddies? Not much. How much money does it make to try to appease to people who don't play games and won't play games? As much as to cause no game to be released out the door and these released flop immediately.

Average Joe/Jane gamer just wants to download a game for their shiny living room box and know it'll run on their 70" TV. They're not interested in wading through menus in order to optimize the performance. That's just added friction. They likely use their phone for everything outside of work and may not even own a PC. But that is part of the parcel. Sucks sure. But let’s not pretend it outweighs the perks and QOL improvements. FOV sliders. Enough said.
Backwards compatibility:
Sure, some games to need extra patches generally made by the awesome mod community.
Point of a PC:
What’s the point of having a PC.
@@MrJhwan not reading all of that it is literally just an operating sytem, and linux is worse when it comes to fighting with the os
@@oo--7714Steam OS is nice and there is a Desktop equivalent too Linux designed for gaming.

PS3 and 360 era games work just fine and if you want to play anything older than that you can simply get emulators that run 4K 60
I always preferred emulation on a handheld and a console. Never used an emulator on a big power hungry PC.
@@8bitnation419 why not? they run 4k 120fps
@@MrPunch36 So can my phone. It has a 4k 120fps OLED screen. Also emulating 360 era stuff is pointless since most of those games are on Steam.
@@8bitnation419 I'm too grown to walk around in public playing video games, I'm in my 30's. I'll wait till I get home and sitting down with a controller.
@@MrPunch36 Well I walk around in my house playing video games. I take my Gameboy to my room, to the living room, to the garden. I don't know why anyone would want to play in public and risk themselves getting robbed or attacked. Plus handhelds are too big to carry these days.
The machines are highly capable. The problem is the development of bigger games and messier, unoptimised code that runs like dogshit. That's the inherent risk of these huge 60-100 hour experiences and it's so depressing to see these "Pro" consoles trying to brute force their way past that problem.
argument of why PC is superior coz Console now basically just PC, I miss the day when I just pop in cartridge and play game, now day even Nintendo Console I need install it, update it, patch it and many of them need to connect to Internet for useless verification aka DRM, PC superior coz its can be fix while console you need so called hacked to fix it.
Let's put it like this, I'm going to study education at university next year, the starting salary for a newly graduated teacher is 18k, how am I going to am I going to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X when the baseline models go for 13k-15k?
Great logical video PC fans cannot comprehend economics and it’s consequences on the gaming market
The US is going to head into a recession, economic crash in the next four years gaming might go back to being a luxury, hobby and not an affordable hobby
Indie games will still be cheap, I guess.
@@todesziege honestly that’s where my attention has been lately even if you don’t have a powerful computer any in the game will work on a decent computer and it’s a lot cheaper to spend as high as 20 or $30 per game
@@millabasset1710 Same. Although indie games still rely quite a bit on infrastructure subsidized by bigger budgets games---both when it comes to tools like Unity, distribution services like Steam, or consoles and graphics cards to run on. So an "AAA crash" would still cause ripples through the indie game sector.
@@todesziege Even for AAA games I have learned to fully utilize all my games and master them, instead of pumping money into new games on day 1. I recently bought a house last year and I am single, I obviously can't shell tons of money on games anymore. I recently returned to Doom Eternal, realizing the combat has so much to offer outside of just 'beating the game'. I find that AAA gaming peaked in 2020, it's like after the Pandemic things have gotten progressively lazy.
OMG the torture of sitting on an air-condition office wasting time half of the day. Whenever there is a big development team half to the real work and the other half are waste of space putting forwards silly ideas.
In my 18 years of sales experience I'm constantly looking at the economy or I'm reminded by my colleagues, this could be the case but none of these companies know how to ride out a crisis and are making the most stupid decisions
That was pirating on consoles too, PS1, PS2, XOrignal, X360. And that is one of the major aspect that made gaming popular.
Our economy is shit rn
Excellent insight into the current state of the console/game industry. Great video and keep 'em comin'!
You got my sub with this incredibly accurate video. Thank you for your work.
nah. lazy devs and greedy companies.
Loved your video pal. Keep it up!
No one wants to say it. Of my ps4 breaks i have a switch. If that breaks i have a laptop...
Gaming... might be too expensive for my future.

Pc is not suffering from any problems with game that the console has? Plus the guy never said computers don't have to download any updates. He wasn't making the argument that ppl should get a pc, Also pc is way simpler than you are making it,
Ever heard of Shader Compilation Stutter? All but 3 current generation Unreal Engine games has SCS on the PC.
Also ever played the original Rogue Squadron? Or Command and Conquer?
He literally said "I get all that and more on a PC, the market is basically being forced to go elsewhere." He said this after contrasting the 9th generation with not just the 6th and 7th, but also the PC. By omitting the flaws of the PC he gave a false impression to his audience.
@@The_Jedi_Exile You do know there are more than just 'muh unreal gaymes' on PC, right? Plus the issue is with the devs on how they handle the porting to PC, in which they are equally as bad when it comes to developing games on Console as well.
Pc has no pc games.
Is it that hard for you to download a patch to make old games compatible ..?
Very well done with the observation. I'm thankful I came across your video.
You raised some interesting points. However, it's only fair to mention that consoles also have piracy to be consistent.
Huh? But you can play old games on a PC just fine thanks to emulators like Dolphin, RPCX3, PCSX2, and Duckstation, which allow for this easily...
you can build a mini-itx pc the size of a console with more power, for not a whole lot more, and the savings from no online subscription = about $500 in 6-7 years

Consoles will continue to exist because the PC requires too much setup in comparison. Average Joe/Jane gamer just wants to download a game for their shiny living room box and know it'll run on their 70" TV. They're not interested in wading through menus in order to optimize the performance. That's just added friction. They likely use their phone for everything outside of work and may not even own a PC. They don't know about DLSS/FSR, let alone even think about framerates. They care about their FIFA ultimate team or Madden roster updates, new CoD maps, etc. The enthusiast crowd forgets we are a small vocal minority of gamers who are very passionate about all aspects of gaming. Enthusiasts will complain loudly about the death of consoles but they're not going anywhere. Sony easily will sell 100+ million PS5 units, even if the PS6 comes out in 2 years. PS4 is just shy of 120 million sold, so gamers have yet to abandon them by any significant margin.
