AMD's Secret Weapon Against Nvidia
Nvidia has been dominant for a very long time. New releases if GPU's on the horizon seem to reinforce that notion. Especially with AMD giving up the high end, but does AMD have a strategy to overcome their seemingly indominable rival?

The Real Problem With The 9th Generation Consoles

A great deal of popular sentiment regarding the PS5 & XBOX Series X. Why by them? Why not a Gaming PC instead? There's a very good reason why these $500 TV accessories need to exist and so I will try my best to explain.

Senua's Saga: HellBlade II - A Video Review
😷
The thing is people want more and more. One thing he shows in his video is the amount of games came out. Then he takes out cross gen games and games that are on other platforms, first party gamas. Making only a couple games to be excited for. But when I got a series x. I was mainly playing cross gen games. Which was completely fine. The thing is that people have such a victim mentality that they will just make excuses to feel hurt. In reality there's a ton of games to play. Probably why games arnt nexr gen onlynis because ofnthe chop shortage and it wouldn't of been worth while for company's to make nexr gen only games when there's a console shortage. Also it takes games way longer to make. So usually there's not alot of games in the first couple years of a console launch. Since it takes like 5-7 years for a game to come out.
That was pirating on consoles too, PS1, PS2, XOrignal, X360. And that is one of the major aspect that made gaming popular.
At this point, Maybe we're just outgrowing gaming as a whole, the younger gamers don't complain about what was and what isn't because they didn't grow up with the games that we did.
The machines are highly capable. The problem is the development of bigger games and messier, unoptimised code that runs like dogshit. That's the inherent risk of these huge 60-100 hour experiences and it's so depressing to see these "Pro" consoles trying to brute force their way past that problem.
So are you saying that the route Apple took with their Mx chips is the path forward? Eventually these will be beefy enough to power desktops and you'll just buy an APU and no CPU + GPU?
Technically they already are powerful enough. That's been demonstrated with the steam deck, and the AMD 6800U. The average person already has all they need in those systems. Strix Point just pushes the envelope even further. Strix Halo will do the same, but with PS5 levels of processing power in integrated graphics. And you'll still be able to add a discrete gpu once you decide you want to upgrade.
i still waiting for super simd from amd.
Let's put it like this, I'm going to study education at university next year, the starting salary for a newly graduated teacher is 18k, how am I going to am I going to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X when the baseline models go for 13k-15k?
Game companies biggest failure is they spend money on BS and then wonder why their multi-million dollar projects are ignored by gamers. It is enough to look at PSX hits - less BS in games and more fun gameplay. Why not focus on gameplay and let people with vision make games as in their vision? Today's AAA titles don't even feel like designed to be a game and more like product and one which isn't designed for gamers but "expanding reach". No wonder there is crisis with gaming and why no new games. How much money does it make to make some dumb story and make you shoot some baddies? Not much. How much money does it make to try to appease to people who don't play games and won't play games? As much as to cause no game to be released out the door and these released flop immediately.
Amd cpu is kind of dominating the cpu market so now they can dominate the gpu market
AMD needs a zen moment with their GPUs. Some say that will come with RDNA 5. Let's see. If it does, then the Zen6 + RDNA5 APU will be the crown jewel. And apparently, if rumours are true, that is what the next-gen consoles will be on. It could be a powerful APU that powers entire PCs without dGPUs. I can see great mini-PCs powered by a chip like that. No more need for big towers.
It will lack flexibility which is what PC is all about. And that lack of flexibility also makes it more expensive.
No matter how good AMDs GPUs are, their software is ages behind. Where is their competitor to Nnidia RTX HDR? If you have a 4k Oled, Nvidia RTX HDR is a MUST to fix all the broken HDR games . Nvidia is always steps ahead in softeare, so AMD will never have a "Secret Weapon" until they catch up in software, no matter if they have better hardware and they dont have that either.
I love your video man.
I have a 7900xtx and it’s a beast, I’ve also never had a driver or software issue
same here
AMD would have not given up the higer range if they had a secret weapon.....
Great video.
When I saw AFMF2 supports Multi GPU to separate normal GPU function and Frame Generation I started thinking about a powerful APU paired with a Powerful GPU. The GPU will do the GPU things while an APU will handle the Frame Gen. This has got to be AMDs plan.
I'M TILL NOT CONVINCED THOSE TWO AREN'T THE SAME PERSON
AMD has no secret weapon, they announced they are leaving the high end gpu market.
And they will keep mid range price as high as high end - so mid range performance for high end price
So they can sell them to AI companies.
they are taking a hiatus just like with the 5700xt
@@zafert85 That is fine if this is a bang for buck. 8800XT needs to be 7900XT performance for 350$ if they want to make a dent in market share
if you watch the video, the secre weapon are apus that destroy mist gous except high end that is the ones that dont sell much, that will limit drastically sales of nvidia and force them to lower prices or move to another market, or jist forget about gaming that is just 3% of their earnings, nvidia is mostly servers now
Nvidia and AMD cousins are fixing the market. All of sudden AMD is ganna stop making high end cards and all of sudden nvidia will only focus on high end cards. Sounds like price fixing to me. No one is talking about this. Call me crazy, but im not the only one seeing this right? Since AMD will no longer make high end cards, people will be forced to buy expensive nvidia cards because they have no choice.
People are too blind to see, and to uneducated to understand. That's why they need affirmation on what graphics card to buy, they can't even do their own research and make a decision.
get checked for schizophrenia
because everybody knows that all gamers are rollling a 4090 and 4080, right ?
Yea remember the interview Radeon had, Scott literally say they're waiting for Nvidia price.
I was going to buy a expensive nvidia card anyway makes no difference
Ever since seeing the performance AMD provides at its price points, regardless of the performance of nvidia GPUs, its made me dislike the company as a whole. The fact that AMD makes GPUs at HALF the price and hold their own against nvidia just shows how hard nvidia is price gouging their customers. And that is WITH amd competing against them. Wonder what prices would start to look like if AMD wasnt around...
For me the problem with this generation is that it doesn’t feel like a real evolution. Going from ps4/xbox one to ps5 and series X felt more like just getting the pro systems and had slight improvements. Most games are still coming out on last gen still so that even proves that point more. Sure the games are still good for the most part but the hardware on both sides are just lackluster. If they waited till this year it maybe would’ve been a better experience having games have time to be made and more improvements into the systems.
the ps5 is 5x more powerful than the ps4 + instant ssd load times So no dont be silly. The reason u feel this way is too many ports and remasters thats allh The hardware is great

IF amd brins out card that will trade punches with nvidias 3rd highest performing card i will go amd hands down, i dont wanna pay the prices as a 4090 is today, Ive tested most 3000 seriers card and rx 6000 series card and i prefer the RX 6800 over my 3080 when gaming on linux nvidia drivers are just broken and screen tearing all over the place and vram leak, with amd card it was just install driver and go never had any problems. atm im rocking the rx 6800

Disagree, Consoles value has been worse for some gens now. As a student or any adult really, you need a working PC either way, be it for simple documents, taxes, photo editing, 3d moduling, coding, math programs,...whatever you study you gonna need hardware to run basic stuff decently, be it a 300-400€ PC or compareable 700-800€ laptop. If I have the choice between a 600/800€ console to play games in a very restricted and curated way or spend the same money on top of the PC I already need anyways for a better result and near total access to ALL games, the PC always wins. The few exclusives that still havent shipped are either not interesting enough or will come over time anyways, not giving up modding, all the PC only games and emulation ability for that.
Anyone can kill a console when they spend over $1,500+ usd on a gaming pc.
I love the fact that these videos leave out the most important part of console gaming. Custom hardware and optimization. That's also the reason why games run better on PS5 in comparison to Xbox.
@@BenedictVo but fall on the "niche" category that values customization. 5 - 10 years ago it was must to invest in a PC to have the best experience regardless on whether you love customization or not.

@MrCatz-py5gv 1) Paying 4x the price for marginally better visuals. While console exclusives win awards for the best looking games EVERY SINGLE YEAR. PLUS every game is optimized. On PC you have crashing, stuttering, hardware issues, bottlenecking, driver issues, optimization problems, sound issues... On top of Windows OS being absolute garbage. 2) Emulation is garbage and you can buy cheap emulator consoles on Amazon. No reason to get a PC for thousands to play old games. 3) No one is paying for an online subscription and then cheating and having your account and hundreds of games that come with PSN Plus just gone. 4) if you need to mod games the games not very good in the first place or you don't have anything else to play.
@MrCatz-py5gv That disc can be sold, traded in, borrowed by friends. It has value. The box it comes in has value FFS. Your PC library is digital and worth exactly $0.
@MrCatz-py5gv So even more inferiority.
Ah to completely misunderstand the appeal of consoles. While the PS5 Pro (and likely its successors) are undermining the following statement, the key allure for many of consoles is the ability to OWN your games. I have a bunch of different consoles and a monster PC. While I game on all fairly regularly the reason I love my console is because it lets me own my games without Steam, Windows Live Games, whatever other bs DRM or random configuration issues that plague PC gaming whenever a new driver gets outdated, you install a new program, you're missing whatever .dll file, etc, etc, etc. Consoles offer a great, controlled, collectible environment.
Oh man, I hate to break it to you, but consoles have DRM, and you don't "own" your game any more on consoles than you do on PC.
5800x3d and a 6700xt puts you a little bit more than the ps5 pro but it's WAY better than the ps5 pro

Never be afraid to say what is unpopular. Especially when the popular opinion isn't sober.
You raised some interesting points. However, it's only fair to mention that consoles also have piracy to be consistent.
There are games, many games. The problem is many of them are uninteresting, bloated and full of politically correct pandering. Technically they're great, but we're at the peak of a creativity crysis.
You're not wrong.
Partlybof the greed I guess? I mean, the fact that games like Wukong was made with $70million and able to outsold lots of games in 2024 is outstanding.
I think there is some truth to what you're saying. As a game, it's definitely a breath of fresh air. I definitely hope publishers like Ubisoft, Microsoft, and EA take note. The unique setting relatively unexplored in storytelling really helps too. We need a lot more exploration of Chinese art and legends. I don't think it's a good example of cost savings though. It was made in China and Chinese workers... are paid substantially less than Japanese, American, or European counterparts. I would hate to see publishers do what manufacturers did in the 90's and just migrate the development resources over to China.
Ah shut up why dont you speak the truth that so called leadership needs to spending our money on nonsense making inflation worse which is affecting all industries. This November for Americans please vote right!
This is more like the potential of a computer and software stack that doesn't exist and isn't being worked on. 'AI' as it stands is not solving any engineering problems like this, it's not magic.

You could've made two videos cause the first half of the video doesn't have any correlation to the second half. Or you can consider changing your title to "In the defense of console gaming"
They only thing that would be actually beneficial imo is the upgraded path tracing in this hw update. PSSR would only be a cheap fix to a much more bigger issue that is creeping up in modern game development, that is the hardware that is supplied is not improving. By having the game running at 1 px and then be "translated" with 100 different processes like de noising and up scaling will only complicate things (dithering and such) and have you the consumer at the mercy of an AI ship. Instead the focus should be to improve the underlying hardware to run more efficient in a tinier format with 100% native performance. Also the translation on the ps5 pro doesn't need to happen on the ps5 pro itself, but instead on a separate server. It's much more efficient to ship a binary to the console and let it run there than to translate, in real time, it with a slow AI ship. As for the other aspects such as adding more content and variety in the game, I am all for man. The faster and better games can be envisioned by humans the better. Just try not to replace the human part of it, since that is what makes them special (imo, again all of this is my opinon).
There is a great video from threat interactive discussing TAA and it's implications for games. It's a great video which briefly covers the issues that game developers are now faced with because of lazy fixes to imaginary problems.
Imo it won't reach DLSS quality but its better than FSR and you have nice ideas for AI, but that are more or less dreams that have nothing to do with PS5 Pro. You can already use AI for developing games, procedural games etc. also for NPCs, if the AI power of PS5 is enough for that i don't know, also devs don't make AI NPCs at this point very often, even on PC with much stronger AI hardware. Imo it has other problems than hardware. PS5 Pro will have better raytracing but still far away from modern Nvidia GPUs. Imo the PS5 Pro is a nice gadget, but nothing world changing. Like Sonys fast drives aren't as gamechanging as many thought. Nice to have, thats it. For me the price is too high for a GPU upgrade and better upscaling tech. And i already own a stronger PC if some games don't look too good on my classic PS5. I liked the PS4 Pro, it was relatively normal priced and the price did fall very fast, it had over the double the teraflops and i got it almost for free after selling my PS4 Slim console.
