Hi Chris - been catching up on your videos. The honest, and modest way you describe your concerns as you learn are inspiring. Glad to see you enjoyed the Cornish Crabber display. I saw them maybe 15 years ago at the London Boat show. After all that time, and 2 previous yachts, I finally own one. It is in the UK ready for my return from overseas (we too have a life split between 2 countries). Your videos on single handed handling are great, as I have in mind a little trip around the UK 2023 all being well! Fair winds - Peter
Nothing like a boat show to fill your head with dreams. That Royal Caribbean cruise ship in the background makes me think about visiting your country. Hello Rossella and Emma. Safe travel you three.
Hi Tom, there are lots of pretty places to see in the UK. Check out the Lake District www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ACYBGNR2CdgcS_Fa7fFTNH0267vMIiI0lA:1577577799544&q=lake+district+uk&tbm=isch&source=univ&client=firefox-b-d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1quOix9nmAhWGSxUIHbdwCKAQsAR6BAgGEAE&biw=1536&bih=750 this is close to my home town and I proposed to Rossella at the top of a mountain there so it is extra special to us. There are lots of other gorgeous places all over our islands, and the pubs are hard to beat. Summer time is best as you get loooooooong days to make the most of your trip. We hope you get to visit one day! Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊
The Hallberg Rassey 57 you were admiring was the same one I helped move from the Dusseldorf boat show last year. We took it down the Rhine to Rotterdam and then to the HR yard in Ellos in Sweden. I understand they intended to lift it out and truck it overland to Stockholm the same week. Very chilly in January. I believe it is making the same return trip to Dusseldorf early this month. My favourite make of yach without adoubt. Good video as usual.
Cheers Raymond, she's a gorgeous boat, but rather than spend £1.4 million on a boat I'd keep Britaly, invest those funds and our family would live off the returns forever more... Chris 👍
I hope you are having a wonderful time this Holiday Season. I agree with you about larger boats - it is a different world, mind you I can't imagine managing a boat over 50' on my own anyway :)
Thank you Jeffrey, we hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and that 2020 brings you a step closer to boat ownership once more. 50' is far too much: those funds would be better invested to provide more freedom with an easily maintained boat... Plus, like you say, mooring a 50 footer is a challenge for a single-hander. :-) Cheers! Chris 👍
Sorry to hear that Peter. True story: I only got into sailing because I wrote a motorbike off in a crash (I crashed into a white van which turned right in front of me without indicating on a mountain road in Italy [wearing shorts and t-shirt]). It's a long story but if I didn't break my collarbone I wouldn't have found the boats I became an importer / dealer for (before I had ever set foot on a sailing boat) and I never would have got into all the adventures which followed on from this. So chin up, the pain will be gone in a couple of weeks and some good may come of this somehow! Cheers, Chris 👍
🌟 Hi Mike, yes the HR340 looks lovely although I didn't have time to go inside. It's a very nice show and there are some good deals there too - if you get the chance it's worth the trip for sure!
Fab video Chris. I walked past the boat show the day you was there but couldnt stop as I was off to the island to pick up my boat, so loaded up with lots of gear. I have just purchased a cheap tablet to use as a plotter so I will be very interested to getting that set up. Yes I must agree there are lots of skills vanishing these days... People buy things now instead of making them. With me being an ex engineer I bet you can guess what I do. Hope all is good with Rosella and Emma, and yourself of course :)
🌟 Hi Vince, I'm sure there will be other opportunities for us to meet up. :-) For my solo channel crossing I used Navionics on the tablet. OpenCPN is a very powerful and versatile system, but there is a steep learning curve and the quickest solution for me was to use Navionics (which I have used in the past so is very familiar to me). Navionics now has tidal streams included too, which was a huge help for my passage planning. There will be more detail about all this in future videos but it is very user-friendly. I've always been a fixer of things - my father was the same. I helped (hindered!) him when I was a kid and learnt to tackle anything. The bbest way to do anything is to get stuck in and do it! Very best regards, Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊
@@SailingBritaly I have and currenntly am using Navionics & you are right, super easy to use, but have been curious a bout OpenCPN, hence my question, every attempt I have to set it up, fails :p
I got it working (I had to follow the instructions as loading the charts etc. is not exactly intuitive.) but I was in a mad rush to get back to Rossella & Emma and didn't have time to waste in getting my head around a new system before setting off on my solo sailing trip to Belgium. 20 minutes after deciding to go back to using Navionics I had the charts downloaded and was good to go with a system which was already familiar to me. The tidal info on Navionics was super handy too, it made a huge difference with passage planning. 👍
I have opencpn as well but on a Raspberry Pi. My tablet then connects via the WiFi connection it creates. I am trying to connect the depth sounder as well so only one gadget in the cockpit.
OpenCPN s a very powerful platform but there is a fairly steep learning curve with it. I reverted to Navionics for my channel crossing as I was already familiar with it and I didn't have time to get my head around setting a new system before leaving. Navionics now has tidal data built in too which was very useful. I'm sure I'll come back to OpenCPN one day but at the moment we are so busy that convenience wins. Cheers, Chris 👍
Great video Chris I wish I knew you was going i'd have come along and driven us there, didn't realise how big the Southampton boat show is! looks amazing, Would have loved to meet Brian from sailing Delos too, I've been watching his channel recently from episode 1 and i'm now up to 145, it's a great channel and very inspirational. I don't know how you managed to ride with 30kg of lines on your back, sod that! haha i'm definitely going to try to go there next year so if your over here and fancy a trip down there let me know :)
🌟 Hi Garreth, the Southampton Boat show is definitely worth a trip. You can get out sailing too, which is a really nice and pretty unique bonus of this show. Brian, Kazza & the rest of the Delos crew do indeed have a great channel and deserve huge success! I'm glad to hear you've caught the sailing bug, you've entered the rabbit hole now - there's no turning back! I carried 35 kg of gear in a backpack up to the summit of Ben Nevis oncce, so 30 minutes on the bike was no big deal, although my shoulders were bruised for a few days afterwards. Speak soon mate! Chris (Plus Rossella & Emma) 🙂

Castles... not something we see here in the colonies! Cool! Love looking at new boats (drooling..)
I enjoy looking at new boats but I'm a fan of used boats myself, I believe you get much better value. :-) Fair winds, Chris 👍
High speed video mate, good content and plenty of it! Sale safe. Ant, Cid & the Pooch crew.
Thanks guys! :-)
Best video of Southampton boat, I missed it after breaking collar bone the week before, good to get a glimpse of what it would of been like.

Mi sembravi Gimondi con quella bici!!
😂
I will take the smaller Hallberg-Rassy thanks. Enjoyed the video, never been there but looks great.

have a look at the GARMIN GLO 200 - provides total redundancy for GPS signal
Cheers Ian 👍

great vid!
Thank you Gus! 👍
love the boat show - new friend Ruthie
Thank you Ruthie, welcome aboard! 😊
You should do a tutorial video on how to install Open CPN
I filmed a passage planning video showing the software I currently use (Navionics). It's super intuitive and a doddle to set up. Cheers, Chris 👍

Anthony has feeling to wooden boats what scares me (Aleks). I'm aware how much work they needs.
Wooden boats are beautiful but they do need a lot of care, then again, what boat doesn't?! ;-)

It's a very international show Mike... at that moment my eyes were on a 20-year-old Russian lady called Shtandart. 😉
