I don’t understand why it was so hard for the Devs to understand that they need to treat the basic aspect warriors like they are melee and ranged specialists, and not like they are just warriors. You could pretty easily give each warrior some serious buffs, with them still being balanced by just how fragile they are
Finally one of the team reviews I've been looking forward to! Even though I suspect John will be somewhat disappointed with the team's potential, as I am.
Played them yesterday against my friends HoA. I won 11-10 but honestly felt on the backfoot the entire time. Was kind of surprised to learn that my Exarch doesn't get to hit on 2+ but the Crimson Duelist does. Also a bit annoyed that Space Marines now get their double shoot/double fight baked in for free and we still have to pay for it. Dire Avenger were pretty effective (the buffed Fists were quite a surprise but a welcome one). Banshees felt pretty bad outside of the Acrobatics enabled long Charge and the Exarch being decent. Scorpions felt alright too, honestly felt better than the Banshees but mostly because of the Aspect Techniques and the Stealth it allowed. Overall the team was fun to play but felt super fragile. Hope they get buffed because I actually really like them.
How can they lose with Firefight Ploys like: "Pretend you're an Astartes with worse weapons A" "Pretend you're an Astartes with worse weapons B" "Run away for 1 less AP so an Astartes can Counteract you later this TP and kill you from full health 25% of the time" and "Deny your Astartes opponent rerolls they won't need because they hit on 3+ and can upgrade dice with minimal resource expenditure" To think, in one year, the only classified Aeldari team could be these gigachads. At only $170US to switch out (up to 5!) of your Swiss Army toothpicks for combs or nail files, I fear for the Imperium.
What's left to develop and release... Exodites? It's a shame the other two Aeldari factions (especially given the recent improvements to Corsairs) become un-classified about this time next year. I wonder if this classification ruling will get gently relaxed or even rolled back or that somehow popular player favorites remain evergreen at tournament level? A one box team of dino-elf outcasts could be cool. We'll see.
I'll probably run the team with the changes you suggest here when I play with my friends. We all love our precious aspect warriors and it breaks our hearts to see them in such a sorry state 😭
I mean, I guess I'll try them? I have an Eldar 40K army so I suppose I'm the target audience, having to buy three boxes to get every operative kind of sucks. They just seem like a pain in the arse to play.
Thank you for this! I've never played Kill Team, wanting to get into it so I have a 40k thing I can play with ppl (I'm more into AoS). I saw that Blades of Khaine were maybe a beginner friendly ish team, if I were to just get a box of scorpions would I really be hindering myself or would that be 'fine'? Unless there's like better options for someone who doesn't want to play the Angels of Death dude squad? Thanks! edit: ah okay maybe not this team lol
@@Jam3643 There is only 5 Banshees in one box so you will need 2 if you wanna run the full Banshee Squad. Same with Avengers but they are a lot cheaper per box so 2 Boxes come roughly at the same price as one Box of Scorpions or Banshees. So if you only wanna buy one Box you really don't have a choice.
Running laps with weights can build endurance. Being forced to try and win with a bad team probably makes you better. Practice with this lot, and Legionary will feel like a breeze in comparison.
Hopefully they get a good buff. And hopefully they don't get new physical data cards until after that happens so the cards aren't immediately obsolete. : p
This killteam is non thematic. Should have 7 operatives but way better. The exarchs hitting on 3s is a joke. 4 attacks on melee specialist too. As you say, 8 wounds is not enough. I do not understand why it was not conceived as a semi élite kt.
Genuinely expected this video to just be “They are still the best of both worlds: expensive kill team that is also bad against new elite meta” and that was it
While accurate is technically a buff for dire avengers, its such a bad one. Accurate is such a feelsbad keyword to get on Shuriken weapons because of rending. You rely on crits to get any work done with shuriken weapons, and losing that chance to roll crits really really hurts. The way to make shuriken weapons better is to find a way make them crit more often, such as the aspect technique they got. You talked about plinking away at elites, but shooting a 14 wound marine with 3 hits and getting 3 damage through just doesnt get the job done. Especially if those marines dont have an incentive to on on engage until you are close anyway. Concealed in cover marines are really difficult to shift without Heavy hitting Piercing weapons.
Yeah, this team is meh. I am also a huge Eldar fan. My first army. Still my favourite. They just don’t feel like specialists for their aspect of war. I like your changes, sounds thematic. Ignore the first 2” of climbing is nice for banshees. Doesn’t remove the importance of their fly power. Scorpions definitely should have a 3+ save. It’s always been in their lore that they have heavy armour equivalent to space marine power armour. Dire avengers I think are fine now, only change I would like is accurate 1 for balanced so it helps proc rending but that’s nitpicking Honestly tho, I don’t think these changes will help. 9 wounds basic would help. Or an extra operative would help. Corsairs are 9 models with pseudo 3APL with same speed same armour same BS, in most situations same weapons, but have access to cool specialists and better weapons? So I don’t think it would break blades of khaine to have 9 operatives with 3APL.
@@CanYouRollaCrit yeah me too, but we seen it before with the devs. The first thing they tend to do for buffs is add an extra operative if the box comes with extra models than the team. Seen it with kroot & scouts & kommandos (kinda)
Been loving the Kill Team coverage! It’s how I found your channel and subscribed. This may be a weird question, but can you “legally” use old finecast models for new Kill Team? I bought them for the first Kill Team, and I’d love to use them. Thanks!
"Melee glass cannon" is a terrible combination in Kill Team due to how melee works. And this team suffers from it probably the most. They really need some durability increase, or at least big improvements in melee consistensy. 4 attacks on 3+ just ain't it.
@@CanYouRollaCrit At most tournaments I went there wasnt any problem here in Spain if the model can be read easily. I didnt go to any major, probably more strict there.
Yeah... About what I expected. A team with 65 (!) wounds and 8 operatives cannot, no matter how you cut it, beat a team with 6 operatives and anywhere from 85 to 90 wounds. It's just a shame, but at the same time, you have to wonder - what is GW's balancing process? This is so readily apparent.

Yeah agreed, it's a shame
Yeah, you'd think guys who can take on Space Marines 1 on 1 would be more effective.
give scorpions 3+ save, banshees ignore piercing and dire avengers can double shoot.
How would Banshees benefit from ignoring piercing?
Dodge?
I would also love the scorpion to have an aspect technique that give their shuriken pistols the silent keyword.
