Basic Nitrogen Welding Process - TAPAS

This video will go over the basic plastic welding technique using Polyvance's nitrogen plastic welding system.

Great video on technique... never heard of plastic welding ... is the gas a mix or is it pure nitrogen? Is this mostly used for repairs or is it used in manufacturing too?

You can use hot air to do plastic welding. We use nitrogen as a shielding gas to prevent oxidation of the plastic and give a stronger weld. Our nitrogen generators produce ~97%+ pure nitrogen. You can also use nitrogen bottles from a supplier.

How is it different from a regular hot air welder - I don't see any advantages

When you weld plastic with hot air, the melted plastic gets oxidized (burned) in the process. Welding with hot nitrogen gas flushes the oxygen out of the weld zone. The plastic melts cleanly with no contamination...no smoke, no fire, no oxidation. It's a cleaner weld. The plastics fuse together with no contamination.

not only what polyvance said, but because there is no oxygen in the weld zone, there is also no smoke like when you weld with air, which is much healthier for the person doing the repair, plus it makes the air in the shop better to breathe in general.

Great video, really good information, learned a lot, suffered horrendously from the god-awful music! Music was distracting and annoying be cause information was so good.... do your videos a favor and lose it.
