That depends on what is called a "category" for the game in question. In some categories(like "glitchless") using a glitch eg. to start the game in a certain spot is forbidden. In this case it is considered to be fair, and do note that you still have to collect the necessary items in order to complete the game, so it's not like he skipped over most levels, the order is just different from what a regular run through the game would look like.

This game and banjo tooie needs to be remastered for its 20th anniversary this year. just like how Crash and Spyro got a remake.

Pedro Gonzales it's a glitch, only available in the Xbox 360 port of the game. That's why it's in a different category than the n64 version.

It's a glitch, but if the game lets you do it, it's not a cheat. i.e. using a Gameshark or a modded version of the game would DEF be cheating

If you watch this guy play the levels, he is pretty quick. But it does feel cheapened by the fact he is given all the moves from the get-go

I wish he opened with an explanation or described how the glitches he's exploiting worked while he was playing. Like how the hell do you start out with access to all your abilities and for some reason start in rusty bucket bay? I just want to know?

This was probably recorded during a marathon run just working on trying to get a record pace so you can't fault the guy for not explaining the strats when he's probably been at it for hours. Sure it would be nice but the speed runner does not have time for that and IGN probably doesn't have the knowledge to explain it all
It was some run attempt for his own channel. Marathon runs do get commentary usually. Only explanations he gives is answering questions from chat back then.
I'll explain the start, but feel free to ask for the rest.
Demo Desync Glitch : On the Xbox version of the game, if you do a series of input as the intro song fades out, you can both choose which demo you spawn in, and move the camera before it starts. Doing so "desyncs" the pre-recorded movement in the demo and makes Banjo dies (in this case). Since the game is not programmed for this to happen, quite a few interesting things happen.
First, you respawn in the level in which you died. As you technically are "in the demo file", you have access to whatever they gave to the demo, which is all moves, max consumables, 25 Mumbo Tokens, and a few other minor differences in-level (so they can use that file to show off stop & swop later). Other interesting point is that this is not an accessible savefile, so if you quit mid-run (or game over), you can't get back to it and need to restart.
Spawning in RBB is a big sequence break that enables finishing the game in an almost reverse order, therefore making the game able to be finished this quickly.

From what I've heard, the start menu is basically a simple AI playing the last save game, in this case the game was saved in Rusty Bucket Bay. It appears when you die in the menu, you can respawn by pressing start, but the game thinks you are starting a new game.. Gotta love memory manipulation, surprised it works in a port!
Not in the last save game, is a trick that only works on xbox, you desync the camera of the demo (the one that plays automatically if you dont press any button) Banjo dies due to the desync and you gain control of Banjo due to that

this game has so much heart, character, personality, and memorable songs. All the recipes of a classic. Alreadh 20 years later and Banjo-Kazooie is just as loved and cherished as ever. And over a decade since Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts... FFS. Can you guys believe that?

He just seems to prefer to run the xbox category and guess that's how they've agreed to time the the runs. Pretty sure every xbox runner does it this way.

The glitch done at the start is exclusive to the Xbox version. This alone makes Xbox currently the fastest platform for Any%.

Are you supposed to be able to leave the level in bee form? If I remember correctly Mumbo's magic is supposed to fade away after leaving too far from a level, so what glitch did he pull off? Or am I just misremembering?
Actually, you are able to leave any level with Mumbo’s magic but once you are out of the level, you have a limit, if you walk far from the limit, you return to banjo’s original form.
What he did here was glitching the game exactly at the last frame of Mumbo’s magic. Right before Mumbo starts to talk to you to return Banjo to original form, the Dingpot scene starts, so Magic return is cancelled.

When the intro cutscene (the characters playing the instruments) fades out you can mash start to change which demo you get (6 time for RBB) and then before the demo loads in hold down-right on the right control stick to desync the camera.

I thought FFM was the trick that let you fail a death square question and then stay on the board and get to the end, the one that lets them skip the Grunty Spaces

So this must have used the FFM glitch to get the beak buster ? And why are we not counting the time it took to set that up in the total time? Also this is not done on original system. So could be using mods. Which looks like the case - the fonts and the models are different to the original. This isnt a banjo kazooie WR... its a homebrew / emulator world record.

The N64 version of this is an eternal classic. It was in the top 10 best-selling N64 games of all time and rivals Super Mario 64, Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time, and Donkey Kong 64.
Its impossible to finish the game in a little more then 60 min. Most levels takes takes atleast 10min to complete. And there are over 10 worlds. Click clock wood takes a long time, because of all the things you must do.
Hoping Banjo is a playable character for the upcoming Smash Bros game.

I would assume the only changes they made in this version were things like improved frame rate, improvements like that. There is no actual reason why it wouldn't count except for stubbornness like being showcased. If you really have a problem with it, watch N64 runs instead
