I remember dislocating my shoulder when I was 16 and begging the EMTs to fix it on the spot so I didn't have to go into the hospital. My family was already in tons of medical debt because my dad had cancer twice and two heart attacks. The last thing we needed was more medical expenses. For something as simple as a dislocated shoulder, it cost about $5000, I was in the hospital for a grand total of 16 minutes... $5000 for 16 minutes. That is unbelievable.
I just got shoulder reconstructive surgery after dislocating it so many times it was just falling out. Costs about $10k if you take an ambulance, and $5-7k if you don't. Meanwhile the MRI+surgery cost about $12k. Make it make sense!

I really appreciate you showing Brian Thompson’s mug shot, as this is what legacy media also does to black and brown victims with the “he was no angel” narrative. Perfect, no notes.
Because black and brown "victims" get painted as angels by the media. Also, there's a significant difference between someone arrested once for drunk driving and someone who's been arrested 20 times for an assortment of crimes.
Why do you think it is that every time a black or brown person is killed in a high-profile case, it later turns out that they have a prolific criminal history?
People say all sorts of things. Actions matter. People keep saying Luigi this and Luigi that but actual protests, going out and marching, actual action, is obviously vacant, while media companies are soaking it all up because it's a juicy story.

Its absurd for me that a person who as you said has "no abilities to generate income" (which is the most American sentence ever, and could never be uttered outside of USA) has to have a person caring for their basic needs like... in literally every other single country, from North Korea, China, Russia, entire Middle East, Turkey, entire North Africa, entire Europe, actually entire Africa, entire South America etc etc etc... you get taken care of for life, and like 90%+ of voters are happy with this. Yes public health care still costs me... but ill take paying about 100 quid out of my 2500 quid a month paycheck that will GUARANTEE every single medical treatment my country can offer for unlimited time, than pay like 800 USD a month for "private health insurance" in USA that can "deny" ny claim and make me die on the street. Just a quick edit. Luigi Mangione had a PLIF posterior lumbar interbody fusion not a discectomy. A discectomy is for a disc herniation, what Luigi had was an isthmic spondylolisthesis. While they have similar symptoms they are very different surgeries, a discectomy alone is partial removal of a disc and does not require hardware. Also pregabalin (Lyrica) is approved for nerve pain/ radicular pain. That being said, great video there is so much that interest-funded media isn’t covering on this and it’s immensely frustrating.
Great post!!! I have 4 herniated disc's in my lumbar region, the bottom 4 disc's. The herniation is severe & it took me 6 years to finally settle my claim. With a lot of these situations there are more options than just surgery, shots &/or opiates. The insurance company refuses to entertain any idea that doesn't mame us. I feel bad those kids lost their father, but these 1%er MFers better wake up. We won't just go away, especially now.
@ Certainly, however, this is a very different condition. To address a spondylolisthesis you need to use hardware to try to pull the vertebra back and hold it in place in order to widen the foraminal space so the nerve has more room to come out from the spinal cord. We can tell this is what he had the surgery for because of the type of hardware and that the “slip” was not resolved with the surgery, but likely still improved. The disc is removed as a part of a PLIF, so they aren’t considered separate surgeries. It is just standard procedure for a PLIF. That being said, sometime either other things need to be addressed during a disc herniation or the stability of the vertebra are put at risk during the surgery so a fusion will also be performed. But in that case, you wouldn’t see that slip present on post-operative X-rays if it was only for a disc herniation.
The guy at 10:26 is so right!!! It’s so hard to get disability and they prolong the process thinking you’ll give up!! It’s designed to be difficult to get help! 😢
It took 1.5 years for my dad to appeal disability claims from John Hopkins Insurance Company. It took up to an including consulting legal consult to activate the care we're owed. He was a few days from homelessness at the end. And now the cost of care has risen and we are still paying out of pocket the difference, because getting insurance to update the claims is starting from step 1.
Shouldn’t it be hard to get disability? I mean if it were easy, everybody would do it… then we have a country full of people not working and nothing is produced, country falls apart. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have disability, but yes, it should be extremely hard to get it, and it should only even be considered for the worst cases.
He's already up to almost $9K on the go fund me. I tell people all the time, we how much power we have vs. the greedy 1%. People just have to believe in people!
@@mikeharding9396 The problem with that is people with disabilities already live extremely difficult lives. Managing life with some disabilities can easily be considered more challenging than a normal full time job and were just talking getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing your teeth ect. The system really doesn't need to be more difficult than consulting medical records and verifying diagnosis, maybe an in home visit to determine quality of life conditions, but it often is much much more difficult than that. So you have people already living on the brink suffering just to exist being put through this arduous long process just to get the benefits they are already entitled on paper.
Insane that you literally need a lawyer to get disability. All forms of government assistance in the US are an absolute joke. They make it more difficult every year while simultaneously making decreasing benefits.
Nearly got into an argument with my managers at the Smithsonian in 2016 over something similar. I was bleeding from the head and they couldn't even tell me they will cover the ambulance ride to the hospital when it happened. They had to get a multi-unit manager to confirm it, all while I was escorted to a place where visitors couldn't see me as I stained the carpet. Took them 30+ mins to get an answer + me in one of their faces saying "You can cover the ride or I can walk to the metro and blame you for not getting me care if it gets worse". They finally told me yes. It was some of the scariest moments of my life, and it wouldn't have gone down like this if our healthcare system prioritized people over profit. Plain and simple.

Workers comp is the law in the United States. You get hurt and and anything and everything about that injury gets paid for. Doesn't matter how much money you have or if you have insurance. None of that matters. All injuries at work are paid for. If you needed emergency care and needed an ambulance then all that gets paid for. People should know this. PE are one of the hardest onset diseases to catch. That’s why I always put that first in the equation. I do…I’m an RT, not a nurse or higher pulmonologist or doctor. Very sudden, and only specific tests can even find it. Your ability to dive into complex, often overlooked subjects and present them with humor, empathy, and authenticity is unparalleled. It’s clear how much effort goes into not only capturing these moments but also creating a space where people feel comfortable sharing their perspectives. The editing, pacing, and overall vibe are spot-on as always. You’re not just creating content; you’re building understanding and giving a voice to so many underrepresented stories. Was gonna comment the same thing. Luigi probably saved at least one innocent family on the road from that drunk driving shit stain
Because black and brown "victims" get painted as angels by the media.
Also, there's a significant difference between someone arrested once for drunk driving and someone who's been arrested 20 times for an assortment of crimes.
Felt the same way. Glad you said it first.
Why do you think it is that every time a black or brown person is killed in a high-profile case, it later turns out that they have a prolific criminal history?
When does the legacy media ever present black and brown people in a negative light?

Spondys stress the disc quite a bit so it is very commons to need both surgeries

You have it backwards. They prioritize profit over people

That's scary that people don't know this. It makes me think there are employees who get hurt and say nothing because they think they have to pay for it. That's horrible

PE are one of the hardest onset diseases to catch. That’s why I always put that first in the equation. I do…I’m an RT, not a nurse or higher pulmonologist or doctor. It’s a clot, that discharges and travels through your blood and goes to your heart blocking valves and blocking oxygen from blood flow. Line of demarcation, a sign of a PE. Very sudden, and only specific tests can even find it. You probably new this, but I don’t know what issues your mother had, but that might give you some insight on the coagulation occurring from blood from her past symptoms or disease. I still don’t know what happened to my mamaw because the hospital screwed up until it was too late and we sent her out on a helicopter after 6 visits at our local hospital that claimed constipation. Stomach cancer they said …
Yes it should be. What you are referring to is called communism

Honestly Andrew, that was the easiest to understand and most concise description of the American healthcare system I have ever heard. As a Canadian, you might wait too long but you’re not denied the care you need.
The fact the first question asked is how you can pay…man that’s rough.
You think someone in America and is being rushed to the ER and is totally unconscious, is being turned away and thrown in the street because they can't figure out how they're going to get paid first?
......
C'mon now 🙄
@@shy404usernotfound Yeah I think that is the reality for a whole lot of people. Or them not even being rushed to the emergency, because people would know not to do that in order not to bankrupt them and their family.

@@LoganT101 and if you were having a heart attack you would be seen immediately. I don’t understand how people can see waiting a few hours for non critical care because other people exist and are in worse situation as a bad thing in the first place, sounds exactly like how a hospital should function. And it is, in America as well.
I lost my low paying manual labor job (driving truck and delivering beer) after a couple surgeries from back injury…. I’m on 2 years with ZERO income. In the slowest process known to man of suing work comp insurance… Was informed today by my lawyer there is a shortage of judges.
I don’t think I would ever report another injury at work again. The mental toll is far worse than physical toll. Go through an IME (independent medical exam) that is paid for by work comp and it will change what you think about humanity. Paid off doctor that is determining your future is terrifying. My surgeons opinion meant nothing. My fate was determined by a guy who said I wasn’t injured after I had already had two surgeries.
That is cold. Sorry to read it.
I've always said that if I got hurt at work that I would crawl home and swear up and down that it happened there.
