This felt purposely or accidentally, slanted for an overall view, like msm is doing with the uvalde tragedy. It’s all a sad shame, it’s easy for an outsider to gain poor perspective, I just hope everyone does their diligence and independent research before emotions drive legislation.
I love how Andrew spoke about the shooter, he just told straight facts with the lead up to the day. No screwing around, no misleading talk, just straight to the point.
Did he mention how an FBI agent has been talking to the shooter for years. And the same with buffalo shooter. Almost all Mass shootings have had contacts with FBI.
It was very cutting for me. Like here's how minor interactions can be brushing paths with a terrorist. It gives me similar feelings to Paradise Now, but more real and closer to home. A few people who went to the same High School as I had joined a foreign non-state army so always something I want to explore.

That part with the Mom playing sweet child o mine to her daughter really moved me. Her daughter will forever live in that song for that mother. Her staring into her phone listening to the song, looking for her daughter in it is chilling and heart breaking. These poor families.
For some wierd reason that lady saying Sweet Child O Mine was that poor girls favorite song and playing it for her hit me harder than I could have expected, and moved me to tears. This video is way more grounding and down to earth than anything else made on this subject.
It's my 5 year old's favorite song too. I was absolutely bawling my eyes out. I feel so heavily for these families and this community. I wish we could actually pass some reforms like a first world country to start dealing with this problem.
I completely agree. I haven't cried in years, but seeing that bit, playing the song got me thinking about my daughter's favourite song.. Got me misty not going to lie.
Looking at some of the more recent events, it seems like it actually has. Recently there was a shooting at a University and 4 officers rushed in, and neutralized the gunman in minutes.
The mother playing the song for her daughter brought me to tears. I had become so desensitized to shootings but that made it feel real. Thank you for bringing this to light.
Same, that shit cut straight to the core. The human perspective of this incident is on full display. I can’t imagine the pain her and the rest of the parents are going through.

You're crazy if this didn't hit you harder than the real news, even as it was happening. Seeing the moms/guardians/lunchlady/whoever expressing their thoughts, not being lead and questioned by some anchorman/reporter situation ... fucking heartbreaking.
Honestly it’s crazy that people can sell guns to 18 year olds, however you should be able to build your own gun at 17 imo like legit if you can build your own gun you probably deserve your right to bear arms 💯 like I just think knowing how things work matters you should be able to be a human with a gun if you don’t build it first.(I mean put to together not manufacture parts)
You can't not love Andrew and his team... Seriously one of the best and most unique journalists out there... Very few journalists really depict the chaos of what it means to be human, and Andrew does perfectly.
i think other journalists do and would publish longer interviews, BUT when you work for a media company whose primary function is to make money, not inform people. they edit out meaningful content so they can place ads and not upset the police(who won't tell them anything if they tell the truth), they run the initial police reports without question or investigation, so that first story is what lands in peoples heads, anything after that, like a factual correction usually gets lost in the static.

Maybe I'm just consuming the wrong news but this was the first time I heard such a concise description of the shooter's action and timeline. So many people are in the dark with how he got the guns, how he payed for them, etc. And it's giving way to conspiracy theories when in actuality the truth is simple. He saved up and easily paid for them. The truth is so important
@@lindseyp9131 Join the club. This was the most in depth look at the "how" he got what he used, and it was maybe 2 minutes long. I almost feel like most news hides the how part to not give anyone else the same idea... but this was literally "he worked, he cashed his checks, he made enough, he quit, he became a terrorist." I see nothing wrong with laying out the facts... at least it would keep the majority of people from coming up with their own ideas.
Andrew is drawing conclusions without evidence... The way the story keeps changing, how do we know Navy SEALS didn't murder those kids? Or that the kids didn't commit suicide? The latter is the most likely story, given the ease of getting a gun in Texas and the hopelessness of being latino here.
Uvalde police active shooter training documents from a week prior explicitly state something along the lines of “you may have to enter alone without back up in the face of grave peril.” The badge is shaped like a shield because it is symbolic of the core of what any police should be for their community. I’m not wishing death on police, nor am I advocating for reckless activity that endangers life. But you hear gunshots in a school and you don’t go in - honestly I have no words.
TBF, this was always the case with police officers. I guess you would be surprised to hear that this is a common occurrence with mass shootings, everything from the sandy hook shooting, to the Vegas shooting. Our police are trained internally to not put themselves in harm and to protect each other, not civilians (since they are trained to think every civilian is a combatant). It's only PR that puts out things like "protect and serve", and "Police officers know that each time they put on their uniform, they are taking on risks to protect others". Those quotes are the furthest thing from the truth. They have been taken to supreme court 4 times over the past decade over those quotes and the courts found that police are not responsible for the safety and protection of citizens. Police exist to protect property and high value individuals only.
it's so infuriating that under all his videos the comments are "wow i love you for this unbiased honest journalism" instead of actually talking about the events covered

That tonal shift between the fashion show and the memorial was crazy. Sometimes you forget the tragedy when watching all these crazy interviews and comedic shit. Much appreciated, definitely the best moment out of any of your videos I've seen. Really highlights the disconnect you can have from a situation when you're not directly involved or effected by it.
@@heavendog3194 his videos? I never said they weren't biased. It's pretty clear with the editing in his videos what side he favours/leans to and thats okay. He could've just made it another silly interview video but he brought the viewers back to reality at the end there.
The people there are holding a fashion show showcasing clothing that can make it easier for people, especially women, to carry and protect themselves and loved ones with firearms. Just because there was a "tragedy" does not mean that people aren't allowed to have fun. People still went out for ice cream the day after 9/11, but you don't complain about them. Your willingness to criticise people for enjoying themselves is not rational as you are targeting them just because of the context around their actions, which do not directly influence their own lives. You stated this, "highlights the disconnect you can have from a situation when you're not directly involved or effected by it", but there is no connection in the first place! Your own desire to connect two unrelated events in one that fits your preconceptions is not the way to find the solution. Many people of the NRA, such as myself (I do not live in the USA, but pay to protect others' rights), believe that you are taking the wrong approach to the issue. If one of the teachers involved was utilizing the articles of clothing showcased at the convention, he/she may have been more prepared to protect him/herself. I am not stating that it is imperative for a teacher to fight back, but having a firearm gives more options to the individuals if an emergency occurs. The assaulter had an easier time at injuring innocent people because there was little or no resistance from victims and law enforcement. TL;DR: 1. You are criticising people unfairly due to your bias. 2. There is no direct connection between the convention and criminal attack in Texas. 3. The fashion show showcases ways that the attack, and future attacks, could be prevented or stopped.
@@Mechjeb661 You, just like those gun fashion show people, have cognitive dissonance. There was a shooting that killed 19 kids and 2 adults in THEIR STATE. And these people go to a gun convention THREE days after, hosted by the NRA. The killer obtained guns legally through VERY EASY means because the NRA lobbies politicians to vote against laws that could have potentially prevented that massacre to happen. These shootings keep happening because these mentally unwell people can purchase these weapons LEGALLY and with no questions asked.

The rawness of all of this is incredible. The contrast between the fighting and intensity among the people at the NRA convention and the silence and somberness in Uvalde was heart-stopping. It shows both the sympathy empathy many people in this country lack. This is the type of journalism the public needs shoved in its face day after day.
This honestly reminds me of watching actual news reports from the 1950s. The one important thing that wasn't mentioned about this subject is that attacks like these do happen in other countries. In China they just use knives instead of guns. In Mexico, Central and South America these kids just join cartels and do even more horrific things. Getting rid of guns will change things but not in the way people are intending to change them.
Re: “empathy many people in this country lack”. It’s so easy to get lost in the desensitization of it all, and to lose track of what’s really happening. This kind of journalism is what reminds us that each individual of the 21 lost here, and hundreds or thousands more in other shootings are beautifully human - each with their own favorite songs, quirks, little habits and routines, and dreams. The interview with the woman speaking of her daughter who loved Guns N’ Roses was so incredibly humanizing to all of this. Had to stop and cry for 15 minutes or something idk. Thank you to the whole Channel 5 team for doing what you do. It is truly profound and ESSENTIAL to keeping everyone afloat and reminded of the humanity of it all.
You always hear about what's happening from some deadpan news anchor or some headline. It flashes by in an instant and no real light is shed on it, but channel 5 sheds that light.
You can do the same with showing a car show, then showing a women crying that her family died in a crash. It's just manipulation. When a car crash happens, no one blames cars. But when a shooting happens, people blame guns, video games, movies, etc. The prohibition happened because people thought alcohol caused violence, and that's the same logic we are seeing here. Guns are not the problem, our social issues are the problem, but no one is doing anything about them.
@@JohnJohn-ss5vj America has more school shootings than every other country combined. But sure, guns aren’t the problem in the country where guns are the most accessible.
@@JohnJohn-ss5vj Cars are rigorously evaluated, tested, and recalled to maintain top of the line safety measures. Self driving cars alone had to go through years of testing and they STILL have not been implemented. Beyond that, video games and movies tie into social issues so I'm not sure what your actual stance here is anyways.
The clip where it goes from showing an upbeat ‘fashion show’ where people can see the various ways in which one can carry a firearm to the silence of the mural of the murdered children and teachers was absolutely gut wrenching. This is quality journalism.

I did not see the last part of this video coming. It’s moments like this that define this channel. As much as Channel 5 is zoom pulls and far-out opinions from outspoken bigots, it is just as much Andrew and the boys sharing the reality of our world. Isn't it crazy how youtube channels are more professional, involving and informative than large news outlets. The interview with the mom talking about her daughters favourite song makes you empathise so much more than a monotone news anchor unemotionally talking about a situation he doesn't care about. Good job Andrew.
There are good quality news outlets and bad ones. Similarly, there's a fuck ton of terrible youtube channels and I'd argue the ratio is way worse on TH-cam
I agree that a lot of news companies are unprofessional, but bear in mind that news are not suppossed to be emotional. They need to be dry and informative to prevent influencing the viewers opinion. Channel 5 does this differently because it is not aimed at informing about the event, but more about showing what people think. An important part of that is that Andrew and his crew always talk to every group involved. With this kind of journalism there is always a risk of accidently playing one sides advocate and influencing the viewers opinions. That's it's hard to do and that's why a big news company wouldn't even try
@@cooltwittertag That's fair, but I suppose the floor is lower and the ceiling is higher on youtube. I've never seen any news as good as Channel 5 off TH-cam, but there's certainly stuff that's just as manipulative and agenda-driven as FOX News that people latch onto.

TL;DR:
There was a shooting that killed 19 kids and 2 adults in THEIR STATE. the hard transition from the nra "fashion show" to the robb elementary school sign/memorial was very jarring and impactful. thank you for this andrew.
There were more people on the empathy side of the street than there was on the NRA side of the street, in addition to even in the NRA street chats Channel 5 asking if there was any changes possible showed cracks in their otherwise casually shouted propaganda talking points of division and hate.
