      Totally agree ... The series' are awesome 1) you get a demystified view of a whole construction project 2) there's a bit of a storyline / cast of characters to follow along with. Good stuff Perkins!

      Me too, and I love the interaction with Ramelle in this. So cool to have the homeowner in on the comments. I absolutely love the finished product. I'm about to have my own home built and I feel sorry for the guys building it. Because I have learned from the best! And my home in Kansas will be built to Perkins boys standards! My home will have red doors, white home and blue roof. I love Ramelles purple front door, but I'm all about red, white and blue.

    Hey showing the benefits of the surveying technology was really helpful. A lot of times I'll get in groove marking things out in a certain way. Having a sponsor show how to use a tool helped see why someone would pay for an expensive tool. Having yall perspective of "just getting the job done" plus "here's a way to do it if you have the option" was cool.

    Laser on a tripod and a measuring stick will solve the unlevel measuring problem. A Lazer and tripod is not that expensive. The measuring stick will tell you how far to measure down from the Laser mark to where you need your string to be. Remember to start at your highest point and work out from there. 65 yr. old builder here, hope the info helps.

    This one hits close to home. I had 14 loads of select fill dirt delivered a few weeks ago to my property which is basically just made of 100% sugar sand. The girl driving truck number 3 didn't stay on the established gravel path and she buried her fully loaded truck. Took me and 2 other drivers almost 3 hours to first dig her out and then multiple attempts to pull her truck out. Had to burn two full loads of fill to pack back into the hole her dump truck left so the next batch of trucks didn't get stuck. Fun time. lol

  • @angelak38
    @angelak38 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    When the dump truck was emptying for he driveway, he could start dumping, backing up, at the end of the driveway over what he dumped. This way, when he leaves, he can drive over gravel. Also, it is compacting it at the same time.

      Glad someone picked this up. Here in Australia you wouldn't get a truck license if you didn't know those simple tips. Crack the tailgate open on chains, tip it up slowly and reverse over the load, not only does this get you out of a sticky paddock but also spreads the load for the client.

    For as wet and steep as that lot is, that driveway should been done differently. I would have graded it down, put a layer of road fabric on followed with some railroad ballast then 5/8". That would have given you a nice stable driveway that you could drive a semi truck on.

    I’ve been a excavator for over twenty years and I think I might have a fun fact for you if you don’t already know it. So on you’re grade pole if you’re laser beam is higher than you can reach to place your receiver that’s what the measurements on the back of your pole is for. So take your receiver and place it at the very top of your pole, stand at your lowest corner and start extending your grade pole with the section that the receiver is on witch would be the very last section of the pole while keeping a eye on the measurements on the back of the pole, keep extending and locking in place each section starting from the top section of the pole until you get a level beep, once you are level look at the seam of the last section off pole you where extending and the next section to be expected and the measurement at the seam will be the measurement that you would translate to the front of the grade pole. I hope this helps with the annoying guessing game. P.S. this might be a good pro tip of the day on a future episode lol

    Back in 1995 the boat company I was working for tried out some really cool laser Teck. They pointed the laser at a small mirror ball at the end of a stick. The laser tracked the mirror as it was moved across the hull, and we were able to build a model of the boat in the computer to show deviations from design within 1 mm and make adjustments with some Bondo. The boat was 60 feet long. I am pretty sure it was some guys from MIT. Sadly, the boat broke in half during a race (Americas Cup 95) because a member of the crew tried to fix something that he was totally unqualified to do. It is always hard to get good help.

    1:05 Brought me back to me going to a site to load a skid steer onto a trailer... did exactly what you said: Park on incline, go to load the equipment, rear end lifts, truck went bye bye and Jack-knifed into the caragana's about 100 yds from where I parked. Of course, I didn't know that I should have just unloaded the skid steer.. instead I panicked, jumped out of the skid steer, and ran after the truck. Good times.
