Death Row In A Vault | Named After An American Prison.

  • Join me today for a very interesting story about a vault and not just an ordinary vault. This vault was like death row to its prisioners. So why was there a prison in a cemetery and why was it in a vault?
This vault or prison is actually named after a very famous american prison.
Let's take a closer look and I'll tell you all about it.

Gosh I wish I could spend time going round with you and looking at and discussing the various graves. That of course is a fantasy as I’m in the midst of black depression and horrible anxiety that keeps me at home. I get so much from your channel and feel a kinship to another Celtic woman as I’m Scottish and in Scotland. I find your history of gravestones fascinating. I must admit, I love old parts of cemeteries most. We had a wonderful section in our local one.
      Stay safe lovely lady ❤

This was an amazing place! That crypt has to be the strangest and creepiest thing I've heard about. I have to agree, I think being imprisoned in a crypt in a graveyard has to effect you so much mentally. Especially when you know you're not going to be leaving alive. That would be unimaginable to have to deal with to me! Thank you!

Thank you Sue for the information on the Sing Sing crypt. Makes my blood run cold. I don't live too far from the old Sing Sing in the US, ironically. I am amazed at the beauty of your final resting places, it appears that families elevate their deceased family members and memorialize them with grace and respect. In the US our old burial plots are quite ornate but today you rarely find final resting places as beautiful. Most seem to tell a story and feel everyone should know, which I agree with completely. Pictures are finally coming back, not so much here, our old porcelain portraits on headstones have faded through the centuries but we did have them. History can be told through the burial of our people.

My adoptive mothers' grandmother and grandfather came to the USA in the 1880s or maybe slightly later from Cork. Idk where as to a town or city. Wish I knew. Headstones here, show them being born in the early 1850s for him, and a few years later after 1855-1860 for who would be his wife. They are buried in Minnesota. Sounded like another relative (or two) accompanied them or arrived later. I don't know where the others ended up. They may have stayed a bit east of the Mississippi River or further closer to New York state, as to which state they ended up at. An aunt referred to the other arrivals as being like "greenhorns", their not being as 'sophisticated' as their older relations whom arrived here first! What a story to tell! 😊 Their daughters, who were first generation Americans were so proud to be Irish. I lived with them both in an extended family setting. Which was lovely, btw. 🎉 These women were strong and lived long lives into their 90s.

Nicely done Sue . You always surprize us with another amazing cemetary . Just when we think it can't get any cooler , Bam ! you hit us with a cooler one than before . That's one of the many reasons we love you Sue , you are continuely going above & beyond every chance you get . Say hello to the husband for me , he sure is a nice fellow ..Here in the USA we don't have gravestones old enough to grow lichen ,hahahahaha .. One thing kind of cool here in Oregon is in some of the pioneer towns out in the middle of nowhere you find headstones from the 1840s through the 1860s that say " Killed by Indians " at the bottom of the stone . It is sad that many that have this on their stones are women and very young children .. I don't mind them killing us men , afterall we stole their land & hunting grounds , But the women & children were no threat to them . Although we got our revenge , in some cases we might of taken revenge too far , in that not just villages were wiped out , but entire tribes of Native Americans were entirely destroyed and wiped off the face of the earth , tribes that archeologists say had been here in Oregon for thousands of years . Mans inhumanity to man hasn't changed much throughout the world in modern times , has it ? See you at the next one Sue & Husband .. Sincerely , your friend Jeff in the USA

You won't find the prison governor's grave in the cemetery. The fact that his plaque is outside the gate means that he is in an unmarked grave or even over in the killing field.

The Trees love you. Because you are loving and pure of heart. They were trying to talk to you. I included a link of 2 darling lil girls talking to a tall Tree in the forest. They were with their father. It is incredible! Thank you for the videos you make. I am injured and unable to travel. And folks like you help me to visit my Ancestors from the healing space of my home. God bless you and your family ❤️

Very interesting cemetery! I never heard of having a prison inside a cemetery. Horrifying place.
I wonder if there's any paranormal activity there?

The original IRA were fighting for Irish independence. I can almost understand why they put captured British Soldiers in the crypt, to await execution. The British illtreated native Irish citizens for so many years.
It is a matter of great pride to remember how our Irish ancestors faught to keep the Irish Language, dance, music and traditions alive..Once independence was achieved, people picked themselves up, dusted themselves down, and set about rebuilding the country to the successful country it is today, in a mere 100 years. Watching how history is celebrated and historical places preserved, keeps our long journey celebrated.

Sue,this is similar to one I know of in my US in the State of Connecticut, It was used to incarcerate Loyalists or Tories in our American Revolution or War of Independence. Great blog, love to see a still of that inside with the cup and stone table? Do another on the Blog unmarked British soldiers executed near there?
